About the Author C.F. Meyer wurde am 11. Oktober 1825 in Zürich geboren. Er entstammt einer Patrizierfamilie. Die Mutter beging Selbstmord. Meyer studierte Geschichte, Philologie und Malerei. Unter dem Eindruck des Krieges 1870/71 entschied er sich für die deutsche Sprache zum Schreiben. Meyer kam wegen einer Geisteskrankheit 1852 und 1892 in eine Nervenheilanstalt. Er starb 1898 in Kilchberg. Der nebenJeremias GotthelfundGottfried Kellerbedeutendste Schweizer Erzähler und Lyriker des 19. Jahrhunderts schrieb außerordentlich plastische symbolhafte Lyrik und sehr einfühlsame historische Romane und Novellen.

It tells how the Swiss develop a great religious tolerance and how a Catholic who sees his nation as most important, gives his life to save his Calvinist compatriot. Along the way, the grotesquerie of the treacherous political and religious rivalries and the horrific acts of the Parisian populous are heart wrenchingly told. I had to look up the 80 years war to understand the threads of the story, but the telling is masterful. A book well worth reading!

Clyde Chew Glascock ,German teacher By Dan Heath de Butts In doing my family history Clyde Chew Glascock, a cousin did a lot and acquired a few friends along the way .After the first World War when Germans were not thought of very kindly he left Yale and went to Texas to teach. He wrote stories for some magazines and other publications on Texas folklore and German stories .He is buried in my yard so he is always on my mind in my history
