What do you do with the rest of your life, after you’ve achieved brilliance at an early age? This is the question posed by celebrated-journalist Chris Wright to some of the most renowned adventurers, athletes and politicians of the twentieth century.
What happens if you are an athlete or gymnast and your career peaks at 14, like Nadia Comaneci, who scored the first perfect 10 in Olympic competition – and the second, and the third, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh. What is the next challenge for the likes of adventurer Reinhold Messner, when you have climbed all the really tall mountains? Where do you take your career, when you’ve achieved the impossible and walked on the moon?
In this far-reaching and illuminating book, Chris Wright travels the globe, talking to Apollo astronauts, record breakers, world leaders and prisoners of war, people whose defining moments came early in their life, and asks a rare but captivating question: what happened next?

‘If someone is renowned for a single moment or achievement, what do they do next? Chris Wright picks out 16 such characters from recent history and asks them this very question. An entertaining portrait of those whose public contribution can be summed up in a one-line epitaph’ Daily Mail

By Bogdan Alexandrescu This is probably very personal, but my strongest impression after having read the book is not “Chuck Yeager is a legend” or “Reinhold Messner is a true hero”, but “Chris Wright is really good”. No more worlds to conquer is quality literature that just happens to be about the lives of certain outstanding individuals. If it was about something else, it would still be quality. So I don’t care if the next book is a cook book - as long as it’s written by him, I will probably give it a try. My favorite story is that of Ray Wilson and his lovely wife, which was simply beautiful. The story of the Australian POWs was also very good, but maybe it belonged in a different book.

Chris Wright has been able to capture the feelings & emotions of all 16 characters he interviewed both during their time of "conquer" and after. A true insight into the human spirit & the achievements of others. Although they are famous for only one thing we remember, they have all gone on to conquer great things afterwards. Truly inspirational. Makes you wonder what your own personal conquer may be or what you will be remembered for. Looking forward to Chris' next book.

We usually forget about famous people after they have their special moments when they make headlines. The author looks at 16 people from a number of disciplines and fills out the rest of their stories. Learning what happened to these folks after their "special moments" when they were famous is an interesting idea and makes for an entertaining read. If the folks highlighted here interest you this book will be a very enjoyable read!
