According to Mike Dowd, professional golf instructor and author of Lessons from the Golf Guru, they have much more in common than any of us would think. Dowd uses science, logic, and humor – along with 25 years of teaching and professional golf experience - to explain everything from the yips to quantum physics. Don’t let the quantum physics part scare you, though. Dowd does a masterful job of taking many things complex, most especially golf, and distills them into easily digestible tidbits of information that when incorporated, actually result in taking our golf game – or our temperament in a Board meeting - to greater heights of awareness and improvement. If this all sounds too complex, you’ll have to trust me; it isn’t. As a matter of fact, throughout the entire book I found myself wondering why I had not thought of some of these simple and basic concepts myself. As the author points out so eloquently, it isn’t that complicated.Lessons from the Golf Guru is a fun and a fast read. It is full of aha moments that compare and contrast the game of golf with our everyday life and those laugh out loud situations that we encounter every day. Each chapter focuses on one particular skill or behavior and you will be amazed at how quickly you will knock a stroke or two, and more, off your score. This book is a must-read for both teacher and student alike. The next copy that I purchase will be a Christmas gift for my over-the-top competitive son who relentlessly pushes himself toward excellence in everything he does.

If you are looking for a book that will help with that mental aspect while out on the course, this is it. I can't wait to dig in and finish it...

By David siemsen Well written, engaging book that made me stop and take inventory of ME all throughout the book. I thought I was picking up a golf manual but realized I was getting a "how to live life" tune up. And yes I did learn more about how to enjoy my game and some mind approaches to practice and preparation and how to just stay in an undistracted focus within my capabilities.I am buying a few books for Christmas for several people including my son, who took lessons from Mike a few years ago when he was on the high school team. I know he will enjoy the life tune up as much as I did,I can't wait to retire (3 weeks away) and start taking some great walks on the course and enjoying the game once again...for the love of the game!Thanks Mike, your passion was present on every page.
