About the Author In his book "The Potts' Factor Versus Murphy's Law," Stanley Potts outlines many adventures, and a few misadventures, of a lifetime truly lived to the fullest extent possible in remote country, whether in his native Idaho, Nevada where he spent part of his adult life, or Alaska and the Yukon where he pursued big game and other activities. for many years, Stan Potts outfitted and guided in some of the wildest country in America, the fabled Frank Church Wilderness of north-central Idaho, and while he constantly battled the nagging intrigues of the infamous Murhpy's Law in play with an even greater tendency (which he calls the Potts' factor) for things to go wrong, if there was any possible way the could. Stan Potts has this to say about "The Potts' Factor Versus Murphy's Law": This book came about because of a bad accident that nearly claimed my life on October 6, 1999.( See Chapter 25-the Longest Night.)During my several months recuperating, I had the time to do my family, friends and clients in the hunting business had urged me to do-write a book, "Stan said. "There are incidents in the book from a hodgepodge of life's happenings. (see list of life's different vocations and avocations in the book's Introduction.) Over the years, people sitting around the campfire or table and listening to some of the stories contained herein often said, "You should write a book." Well here it is, and we will see if I should have 'wrote a book'!"

I cannot say enough about my friend Stanley Potts,as well as his wife-Joy.He is everything you will read in his books and then some. He could very easily be called a "modern-day Will Rogers".If you know anything about the outdoors, wilderness, hunting, flying, ranching, farming being an artist, rodeo cowboy ,competitive shooter, you will marvel at and relate to his stories.Likewise, if you know nothing about the above, this life, you will learn really how it is and enjoy what learn and read in each of hi four books.I can tell you 1st hand that all his stories are true and meaningful and to listen to him tell them—well he belongs on a late night TV Talk Show such as Letterman.I have hunted with Stan, flown in the mountains with him, shot trapcompetitively with him, drank whiskey with him, listened to his stories and loved this man and his wife from the first day I met them.I was living near Sun Valley, Id. and learning to shoot trap when one day Stan walks into the gun club with his wife Joy and talks about moving there and wanting to shoot competitively. He had retired--just sold a ranch and hunting outfit and intended to supplement his retirement with all the money he was going to win shooting trap. This became one of his many Potts Factors, as you will read. I'll never forget seeing the happiest guy ever, after he won the Golden West Grand shoot in Reno, Nv. in 1979.I think he spent all his winnings and then some on buying everyone drinks for the next days.Actually, all Stan's ventures in my opinion were successful, becausehe did them and had the guts to try with gusto and hard work--which has to be his middle name.Murphy’s Law may have haunted this man if you need to put a $ sign on his success--as a person, loving family man , friend, entertainer, capable "jack of all trades", honest to the bone, he belongs on top of Fortunes 500.These books are what the American West is all about. As Henry Ward Beecher famously said, "No man can tell whether he is rich or poor according to his ledger...He is rich according to what he is, not according to what he has." That folks is Stanley Potts.

Stan Potts, the man By Dogg Please allow me a moment to tell you about Stan Potts, he and my father have been friends for over 60 years, these men grew up in an era where men were tough but gentle and fair.Stan's books are his life retold by a true master story teller, (himself) simple honest and most of all humorous. These books are easy to read, entertaining and the content is all about how these men and women lived, loved and played. Sometimes it is difficult to distinguish one from another.Very good reading indeed.Jeff Juker, Twin Falls Idaho.

By Lakes2167 This is the first of four great books by Stan Potts, a true backcountry original, who built a reputation in Idaho as one of the best outfitters in the state. Through the use of his wonderful story telling abilities Potts shares his humors adventures and sometimes misadventures of his career and life. Along with including details of amazing hunts he weaves in funny anecdotes of former clients and bits of backcountry history. If you like hunting, fishing, flying, horses, packing, hiking, or just flat out good stories his books are well worth reading.
