From the Author Kimjongilia From Wikipedia Kimjongilia is a flower named after the late North Korean leader Kim Jong-il. It is a hybrid cultivar of tuberous begonia, registered as Begonia × tuberhybrida 'Kimjongilhwa'.[1] When Kim Jong-il died in December 2011 the flower was used to adorn his corpse for public display.[2] Despite its name, the Kimjongilia is not the national flower of North Korea, which is the magnolia.[3] Another flower, Kimilsungia, is an orchid cultivar named after Kim Jong-il's father and predecessor, Kim Il-sung.

An unbelievable look behind the scenes of power By Kitty Smith When the elderly Korean man handed him a loose stack of papers one day in the park, Victor Fox accepted it more out of polite curiosity than anything else. Little did he know he had been entrusted with a first hand account of history unknown to the West. The story starts out in China as young Peter Chang goes from spoiled son to angry soldier fighting against the despised Japanese occupation. His wartime engagements earn him admiration from his peers but the CPC consider him something of an uncivilized wildling and show him little to no respect. When his initial party recruiter Shao Peng extends Peter a dinner invitation he eagerly accepts. The topic of discussion centers around a Korean named Kim Sung, a man with questionable morality who is backed by the Soviets and poised to be the leader of Korea. The CPC has determined it is in their best interest to support him but will do anything and everything to ensure he remains loyal to them over the Soviets. They have already positioned a loyal Mao Zedong supporter as Kim Sung's wife, but the man in question is both unfaithful and abusive and the party needs someone capable of protecting their agent from her charge. Protecting Kim Jong-Suk will be a lifelong mission, and they want Peter Chang to accept it.Kim Suk had been an ordinary girl who cooked meals for Chinese guerrilla fighters when she was invited to come to the CPC's central office in Shanghai. At the request of the CPC she is now married to a cruel, obnoxious boor who is slated to be the next leader of Korea. Her job is to strenghten China's ties to Kim Sung, but how can she influence a man who is already under the influence of everything else? Her life is constant hardship now, except for a new Chinese servant, the only one she hasn't disliked upon meeting. Peter Chang.'Kimjonglia' is a mesmerizing, spellbinding true story unlike anything you've ever read. Secrets, betrayal, sex, politics, murder and more are packed into this eye-popping story of political intrigue. Like Anchee Min's novel 'Becoming Madame Mao', this book takes you beneath the media portrayal of events and into the kitchens, back alleys, and bedrooms of the movers and shakers during a time of great upheaval in Chinese and Korean history. Saying a book was impossible to put down is a bit of a trite cliche but in this case it's the honest truth.

This story is based on true events, and some of it gives me the chills knowing horrific things happen in different parts of the world. It has an abundance of Korean culture that I found to be very interesting, and enjoyed reading each new piece of information. With all the emotions portrayed and revealed, I couldn't help my heart racing and aching for the pain endured in this rollercoaster of a story. Fox has a unique way to bring romance into the story which is beautiful and touching. There books hits almost every single genre, with thrill, romance, and historical fiction. It kept me on the edge of my seat, with drama and the sense of adventure. It's very well written, giving any reader a great mental picture of the experiences each character encounters.I normally do not initially go for a book like this one, but something about it intrigued me, and I'm glad I tried something that was sort of out of my comfort zone. I can't wait to recommend this to some of my friends and family and discuss the book with them. Absolutely a 5/5.

A harrowing, powerful romance for all audiences By Garrett Zecker Kimjongilia is a beautiful romance set up as a frame story that tells the harrowing and paranoid love between two of the inner circle members of the Kim household in North Korea. From the humble origins of communist ideology, through the ascendance of power, and all of the murder, intrigue, fear, adultery, paperwork, and backstabbing of that has led to the current situation in North Korea, this story is an exciting and heartbreaking romance heavily steeped in historical fact. What is most memorable about this book is the way in which Fox is able to create a romance that is both a beautiful touching story and also a well-crafted tale. For me this isn’t always something that goes hand in hand, and I either find myself wading into unrealistic saccharine scenes of sentimentality or sexual explosivity. Fox has created a beautiful and realistic piece that is entertaining for any audience, from readers of the spy thriller, to bildungsroman, to romance, to historical fiction, to action, and just plain literary fiction. It is as touching as it is exciting, a nail biting novel where a true sympathetic itch for the characters drives every turn of the page.Well written, and brilliantly edited and formatted, this book was a breeze to fly though on my Kindle. Unlike many self-published novels, this gem allowed for a gorgeous, real reading experience that is unparalleled among its peers.I loved this book as someone who is interested in the history of the conflict and power struggles in the fearsome government, but I also loved it as a reader, and I was surprised to love this book that is considered to be a part of a genre I rarely approach. A really enjoyable book I will be recommending to others.
