Marked Card is a term used by law enforcement to flag a mobster as a possible covert operative for the federal government. Made guy, double agent, and mystery man, Mark Silverman takes the phrase 'To know your Enemy, you must become your Enemy' to a whole new level in Marked Card: Power Play in the Boston Mafia. In the course of the late 80's and into the 90's the Boston Mafia was in the midst of a full blown war for supremacy of the New England underworld. The government was synchronously engaged in their own silent war; playing one agency against the other while leaking information to their informants. Silverman spares no details describing how he rose through the ranks of the Irish Winter Hill gang while working for both warring factions of the Italian Mafia concealing his identity. Silverman explains how the Whitey Bulger scandal led to an absolute power play, both on the streets and inside law enforcement circles.

Review Marked Card was very well written. It captures the reader and puts you in a world most people never even dreamed existed. Mark Silverman plays a dangerous game of cat and mouse and causes havoc throughout the mafia from Boston to New York. With all the twists and turns the story is never short of excitement. Marked Card is the mob book that transcends the mob. True Crime ReviewerThe very first line in the book "They'll Kill you" immediately got my attention and kept me on the edge of my seat as the rest of the story began to unfold. At times I felt sorry for the main character because of all the personal heartache he suffered throughout most of his mob life. Throughout it all he never made excuses and I admire him for that. He wasn't the kind of fella who bragged about his bravado. Every time he got knocked down he managed to pick himself up again and continue down the long and winding road to redemption. Crime Twist ReviewScott Deitche has again captured all the shades of gray in a mobster's life - with a great backdrop of history to put everything in context. This is truly true crime without an agenda or any need to amp up the drama. It's raw and it's a thriller and Mark didn't play by the rules - which also makes the story unique. Readers get unusual insight into his decision making and the choices that put him at the epicenter of the 90's Boston war. The story includes the who's who from Boston mob fame. From the Winter Hill guys to Bulger and Flemmi to the guys in the North End and down to Rhode Island - Mark was either working for them, working against them or playing one group against the other. From the Author Marked Card is my story, set against the backdrop of the New England mob war, and the relationship between the Irish Winter Hill Gang, the traditional Patriarca Mafia Family and the New York backed renegade faction that tried take us all down in the 1990's. Throughout it all I tried to play the game as well as I could, hiding my identity while protecting the boss of the family. My story brings to life the unique and dangerous underworld of Boston, threading its history through its darkest period, when allegiances were shifting and bodies were falling all across New England and I was walking a tightrope from Winter Hill to the Mafia.
From the Back Cover An amazing journey through the underworld of New England and the various crews of LCN & the Winter Hill Gang. Irish gangsters and Men of Respect operating in close proximity yet each respecting the other while everyone makes a dollar. This is not your run of the mill tale or the same old story and names just re-arranged. Marked Card tells the story of a young up and comer, with connections to the Irish Winter Hill Crew that can be compared to those that Henry Hill had in Goodfellas. As a youth surrounded by top gangsters, both of Irish and Italian heritage, this half Sicilian, quarter Jewish and quarter Portugese, makes his way through the treacherous days of the New England Mafia wars; the young renegades who feel that the old regime's time has come and gone, and now want their turn running things as well as the diabolical two faced James "Whitey" Bulger and his Federal Bureau boys. Tumultuous times to say the least, add into the mix the fact that the recognized leaders of LCN tap Mark to be their eyes and ears, due to his business proximity with the renegades and the fact that he himself is an up and comer, earning with both hands and enjoying himself along the way. As the saying goes, "keep your friends close, but keep your enemies closer", this is a lesson that Mark always kept in mind, and it helped save him while out in the streets making a living. This is not your usual organized crime novel, it's material is refreshing and the facts/details he divulges are a change of pace from the average book.

This is not your, "run of the mill" tale or the same old story and names just re-arranged. "Marked Card" tells the story of a young up and comer, with connections to the Irish Winter Hill Crew that can be compared to those that Henry Hill had in "Goodfellas"! If you are a true crime fan, this is a must read, not much is published about the Winter Hill Gang so be ready for some new names and the 'usual' ones also! Any organized crime buffs will find this a fresh change of pace, it's a dynamic book. Let's just hope and pray that the price comes down to AFFORDABLE!!!

He failed to leave out the fact that he was a paid informant and received a check in the amount of $25,000.00 for a case that he assisted the state police in . Just goes to show you that anyone can make up a bunch of lies and sell a book . Don't waste your $ or time reading this !!
