About the Author Nick Nero is a former Professor (technically an Associate Professor before he left the profession at the age of twenty-eight) of Speech and Drama; a former entrepreneur/businessman; and currently a writer of fiction and non-fiction. He has published an extensively research, highly acclaimed, non-fiction work on the Kennedy assassination called JFK: ASSASSINATION REHEARSAL (Algora Publishing, 2014). He is currently working on a sequel to BRIDGEPORT IN MY REAR VIEW MIRROR: MANGLED,MAUDLIN, MEMOIRS OF SEMI-TRUTH-LESS ADOLESCENT ADVENTURES (AND MISADVENTURES) IN THE 40s & 50s IN CONNECTICUT. A delightful journey through the changing and challenging times of post-WW II America By Harold Taggart A delightful semi-autobiographical account of adjustment to the post WW II era as seen and experienced by a precocious adolescent. As automobiles became a common family possession and televisions began to dominate and guide American entertainment and information, the mind of a child was at least as perceptive as the minds of adults trying to adapt their antiquated customs and mores to the rapidly changing times. The war proved that adults didn't have all the answers. They didn't have an indisputable ethical code. Every custom and belief was open to question and challenge. The church was no exception. Young Nick bravely faces all of these challenges plus the natural trials of maturity and impediments of puberty. . While younger generations will get fascinating insights into life before the computer age, as a Mid-Western contemporary, I had a delightful time reliving those experiences, colored by a Mid-Western slant. There were some direct connections. He mentioned unique pottery produced by Homer Laughlin China Company. I worked at that china company which very generously hired college students on summer breaks. I particularly enjoyed the insights into the entertainment and theater industries and the detailed background information on actors and production of a play. It's a fun and informative read.

Bridgeport, in my Rear View Mirror, is an enjoyable,delightful and easy read about the author, Nick Nero, growing up in the 40's and 50's in Bridgeport,CT. The book took me on a detailedand vivid journey on what it was like to live 'back then'. Each chapter rendered a cliche and/or anecdote that reveals the author's witty side, which for me entertained me as I also gained knowledge about his life growing up and his experiences along the way. For instance, Nero mentions having a parlor in the house, "yet never or barely using it - except for viewing of a body. You keep the body on ice for three or four days and you had to keep adding ice and emptying the water so the body wouldn't----you know. The parlor was the nicest room and the only one with a window in the flat, but it wasn't worth dying for." The book is full of pictures which helps reinforce things that were memorable to him - S&H Green Stamps, family, Archie comic books, etc. If you like be informed AND entertained at the same time - this maybe the book for you.

It has numerous iconic photographs and images of the times and is printed in a large, easy to read type. It actually brings back many memories of the 1940's and 1950's whether or not you lived in Bridgeport. Many of the events referenced in the book existed throughout the United States and many of the situations described were at least typical of or similar to that which others experienced in other towns or cities. Even if you weren't born yet, this book brings to life some of the things you likely would have experienced had you lived at that time.
