Review Versatile actress and comedienne Williams had a challenging childhood: strained finances, a hard-working mother, and a father who struggled with alcohol. Her recollections of auditions and eccentric episodes with film roles and guest TV appearances are equally entertaining. The iconic television series Laverne & Shirley, in which Williams starred with Penny Marshall, is a highlight, with stories ranging from the antics of the superb ensemble cast to the physical comedy to the rise of Boo Boo Kitty. This was a wonderfully entertaining look into the life experiences that created the mega-talents of one great comedic actress. From the challenges of a not-so-privileged childhood to the uber success of Laverne & Shirley and beyond, I couldn't get enough of this story. As a fan of Cindy Williams for so many years, I was tickled to realize that she was just about as awe-struck to meet mega-stars as I would be, myself. Never did she lose that sense of who she was and where she came from, therefore preparing her for the tough times that she endured. All the little stories in this autobiography add up to one powerhouse of a character study, and I can't help but imagine what a wonderful movie this would make. (Are you listening, Hollywood??) My only wish is that it was longer!.

No information By Tina I have never been a huge fan of Laverne and Shirley but I have always enjoyed Cindy Williams, which is why this book look so inviting to me.Having said that, I can honestly say that I enjoyed this book.. Did I love it? No and the reason for this is that I found this book incredibly vanilla.I am not sure if this a trend these days as I have read a few others in this "genre" for which I have the exact same comment. This book was fun to read because Williams has some funny anecdotes about some of the biggest tv celebrities., including Andy Kaufman. She has a fun way of writing that makes you feel as though you are actually living the whole event right with her and....she is funny. However, my beef with this book is that she just does not go into enough details about most of the things in her life. For example, she talks about Laverne and Shirley and then, poof in less than two sentences, she tells us "by now I have married...: Really? Two paragraphs ago you were telling us about Laverne and Shirley and now you are married? Not one mention of her even having a boyfriend up until this point and never again after that.It felt as though she skipped over some huge points - mainly in her personal life and that is simply not acceptable if you are writing a memoir. If all you wanted to talk about was your career then that book should have been written and NOT called a memoir.Additionally, after I read the entire book, I had absolutely no idea how Cindy felt about Laverne and Shirley, Penny Marshall or almost everybody else she mentioned - except Ed Begley Jr. She does not write, at any point in time, about ANY of her feelings and emotions. She is never mad, sad or thrilled.I didn't hate this book, but wow, was it lacking as a "memoir:.

In fact, I read it in one sitting, which is something I rarely do. It moves quickly from one memorable moment in Ms. Williams' life to another. I found the details of her role as a comedy writer very interesting. I enjoyed it, but I just adore Cindy Williams and really wanted to know more about her beyond her Hollywood life. For example, Ms. Williams mentioned she had the idea for the "Father of the Bride" movies, but we don't get much of the story beyond that. She mentions her early family life, but is very private and glosses over her adult family life. I can respect that desire for privacy and she's entitled to it. Highly recommended for a quick read and a peek at life as a major TV star of that era. I hope we see and hear more from Ms. Williams in the future. She's one of the all-time greats. If you're looking for other funny lady memoirs, I really enjoyed Teri Garr's "Speedbumps" and Carol Burnett's classic "One More Time." Happy to add this one to my collection.
