By Sean This book is an excellent resource for psychologists and mental health practitioners working with adult cancer patients. Dr. Nicholas provides thoughtful examples of how to incorporate evidence-based practice in an oncology setting. Given the various kinds of cancer diagnoses, stages, and treatment options, along with the complex psychosocial stressors often accompanying cancer patients, it is important to remember the uniqueness of each patient in his/her ability to cope. Rather than simply describing empirically supported treatments, this book teaches you how to critically evaluate the relevance of a research finding to the unique characteristics of a particular cancer patient. Dr. Nicholas provides a wonderful balance between presenting scientific research and carefully considering the human experience of someone struggling with a cancer diagnosis.
