Review "My Beautiful Flower is a lovely story about an ordinary person whom has experienced so much! I liked how she captured the last recession so well and showed how so many hard working people lost their business, their homes and some their lives. The writer takes you with her on her journey to find herself and describes some beautiful scenery of the places she found herself in."Pauline Higgans "I found this book refreshingly honest.Showing how depression effects the story teller and her family. The really nice thing about this book is that she is determined to find the source and the solution; And she does!"Marcy Murray"In searching for help for her daughter, the writer shares with you some valuable information of where to get all the help you need for your child with a disability or learning difficulty. Well Done!"Phoebe Edmeads london"I loved how the writer shared about her problems in her marriage and family relationships. We are all only human!" Lorna Kelly"Alcoholism in the home has a real effect on children growing up. Their emotional needs are hugely neglected causing major disfunction in their adult lives."Josephine County
From the Author When I had my last child born in September 2004, I went straight into post natal depression. I suspected I had suffered with post natal depression on my other children, but I was younger and I was able to get on with things. This time, the parenting pressures seemed to multiply and at a routine check up, the health nurse declared my youngest child had a delayed mental development, to what degree came after a couple of years of assessments. I was overwhelmed by my job as a Mother and I struggled to cope.I was lost, I was sad and I didn't like myself very much.I followed the road of assessments and help supports for my daughter and sturdied myself for the hard road of supporting her education. I knew I wanted her educated, physically and literally and I knew I had to carry on the work in my home when she left the school environment. What I didn't know then on the start of our journey that my little girl would become my teacher. Her little brain made learning very difficult for her and it made her body writhe in agony. Her brain fought hard not to learn! But her soul fought harder and she began to learn! She began to learn to read and she began to learn to write and she began to learn to play.I decided then to follow example of this little girl and I began to fight! I began to trust in God and I began to heal! When I saw the wonders that were evolving around me I had to write my story. My story is inspired by little girl Yasmin, 'My Beautiful Flower'. I began to discover myself and I went down the road of my past. I came away from my story with acceptance and peace not resentment nor blame.I realized that I was blessed to have a gift from God to show me the way through life. And I am very grateful.
From the Inside Flap I always loved reading in my life. I would finish a book and never dream that I would be able to inspire or affect people with my words. I love words! Meaningful words affect me, funny words, inspiring words!I take inspiration from people who are positive. I often write quotes down in my notebook or even a piece of paper and I would glance at them often to remind me to keep trying, keep going, do it well! There are two particular quotes on the ceiling of the aquatic centre where I swim in Abbots town, Blanchardstown, that I really like;' Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity' by Darrel Royal (Former Texas football coach)And another, by Aristotle, ' We are what we repeatedly do, therefore excellence is not an act, but a habit!'One of my very favourite quotes is one by Walt Disney; "Whatever you do, do it well. Do it so well that when people see you do it they will want to come back and see you do it again; And they will want to bring others and show them how well you do what you do."

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. An inspirational memoir By Keith Jean Murray has written an inspirational memoir about life with depression and her daughter's learning difficulties. 'My Beautiful Flower' is both uplifting and somber at the same time. What most distinguishes this book, however, is Jean's affection for her daughter. The reader will recognizes that people with disabilities have the same human desires and needs as the rest of us do - like respect, shelter, education, love etc. No matter how strong our personality is, it is inevitable to feel down. But depression can ruin your life by making you less productive and withdrawn. We should all read books on personality development and coping with depression while we still have the time to read. I heartily thank Jean for allowing me a glimpse into her life :)

Although Yasmin is struggling with her own learning difficulties she helps me through my depression. Yasmin is my gift from God and my inspiration to fight. As my first experience on writing a book and having it published, I think it's a nice little read. It is a little bit sad at times and a little bit funny at times. The book deals with my depression and my daughter's learning difficulties. I try to connect the link that our parents and grandparents suffering depression through poverty and loss and poor nutrition, inevitably causes a genetic breakdown in our generation's brain that is the cause of the mounting numbers of children born with learning difficulties today. I gather lots of information on the problems these issues cause in the family but also show you the solution of how to get through them, healing myself and educating my daughter within her peers age group. 'My Beautiful Flower' is a book about accepting and forgiveness. There's a couple of really nice poems that I wrote that I'm quite proud of and also lots of details on our beautiful country Ireland and other places that I've travelled.
