The Kennedys were out to destroy Carlos Marcello and his two-billion-dollar empire. But the Boss also knew how to set up a politically sensitive Mafia "hit." A young former marine marksman whom everyone thought unhinged and even crazy was an occasional employee. A defector to the Soviet Union, he had recently returned to the United States with a young Russian wife. Lee Harvey Oswald was the perfect fall guy. Jack Ruby was closely connected to the Marcello crime family and was never allowed to tell his side of the story.

Stefano Vaccara is a journalist and teaches Mafia history at Lehman College CUNY.

However, it only tells one part of the story, one element of the full consipiracy. One must balance it with reading of books which detail the participation of the CIA (along with the Dallas PD, FBI, and others). Only then will one get the full picture. The connections and co-operations of the CIA and the mob go back to WW II when the Mafia helped the OSS (precursor to the CIA) retake Siclily, and the Navy hired the mop to guard the NJ docks. The Mob couldn't have done this with the CIA, and vice versa. (They were of course many other "interested" parties, such as Cuban exiles, soda companies (for the Cuban sugar), the military-industrical complex, and etc., etc.) To sum up, a good book, but only covers one aspect of a complex operation with complex yet interlocking motives. ---Jon

16 of 21 people found the following review helpful. Concise and well written By C. Douglas Evans This book has been on my radar for some time. It covers much of the same ground John H Davis covered in his 1988 book "Mafia Kingfish". I find most of his arguments convincing and his sources are well documented. I have been reading slowly through the JFK assassination publications since getting hooked about the time Talbot first published " Brothers ". It is a fascinating topic and there are a smorgasbord of speculative theories some of which are quite complex. This book however hews to a more straightforward storyline and focuses on the mafia, principally Carlos Marcello, and less so, on the CIA and the Cuban exile community. Unfortunately, the JFK assassination literature has evolved into publications that advocate a conspiracy and those that seek to support the lone gunman theory. I have tried to keep an open mind as I seek to understand the events that took place that November day in Dallas, Texas. Thus far I am most impressed with the theory put forward in this publication.

8 of 13 people found the following review helpful. Not bad. By Feedback68 Well written and easy to read. But its mostly material you would have read in countless other books. Ruby knew people in the Mob, Bobby Kennedy's torture of Marcello and having him deported. Oswald hanging around New Orleans. David Scheims 1988 "The Mafia Killed Pres. Kennedy" covered a lot of the same ground also. So theres nothing knew unless your a complete beginner at JFK's assassination. Its also a fairly short book at 208 pages, when its priced at $13 on Kindle and $18 on hardcover.
