Although Cora Du Bois began her life in the early twentieth century as a lonely and awkward girl, her intellect and curiosity propelled her into a remarkable life as an anthropologist and diplomat in the vanguard of social and academic change.Du Bois studied with Franz Boas, a founder of American anthropology, and with some of his most eminent students: Ruth Benedict, Alfred Kroeber, and Robert Lowie. During World War II, she served as a high-ranking officer for the Office of Strategic Services as the only woman to head one of the OSS branches of intelligence, Research and Analysis in Southeast Asia. At least, the biography Du Bois has long deserved By Amazon Customer Cora Du Bois’s name should be on everyone’s lips as one of the greatest anthropologist of her generation, and perhaps of all time. Her life story is unbelievable: Anthropologist, spy-master, lesbian, confidante of Julia Childs, and the first female full professor at Harvard. At long last she finally receives the attention she deserves in this biography from her student Susan Seymour. Seymour’s strong personal desire to tell this story — and, I suspect, her editor’s desire to get Du Bois’s life on record — has made this book a reality. Seymour is not a master biographer, but she’s certainly competent, her research is solid, and Du Bois’s story tells itself. Readable and especially worthwhile for the way it puts Du Bois back on the map as an inspiring role model for all anthropologists today, male or female, queer or straight.

This book has some well known serial killers and some I am not familiar with. The things they all have in common is the extreme nature of the killings. Some have strange methods they used in killing and others stand out because of the number of people they killed, some over one hundred.As noted this book has all kinds of serial killers. From Robert Hansen, a loner in Alaska, that buried his victims in many different places to lesser known serial killers that did their deeds over the course of years and killed in record numbers. You will have to read more to find out about other serial killers and their strange proclivities. A serial killer book like this would not be complete without the well known Russian serial killer Andrei Chikatilo, who was oddly confined during the trial for the safety of the prosecutors.I enjoy reading books about serial killers and this one does not disappoint. The book is well organized and well written. Pictures of these outcasts help to put a face to a name. In many cases you would not be able to pick them out of a crowd. The killers selected were a good cross mix of societies deviants and most dangerous killers.I have read several of Jack Smith's books which are all on true crime. If you are looking for other true crime books check his out. They will keep you reading for hours. Highly Recommended.

The writing is so well researched and executed extremely well written. I have a slight obsession with true crime and especially serial killers, I have downloaded more of Smith's books and all have over delivered.

About the Author It has been just over six years since my heart transplant and I feel blessed to be able to share this information about the transplant experience with other transplant patients and their families. If anyone would have told me ten years ago that I would be writing about transplantation with a 17 year old boy’s heart in my body, I would have thought them to be reading from a science fiction story. I was a very healthy, active person. I would have never believed that I would ever be as sick as to need an organ transplant. If my family and I had truly understood what the journey entailed, I feel that many challenges we faced would have been handled differently. My family and friends were amazing; it’s just that there was so much that was unknown. I wish I had had more information at that time, and more understanding of how to negotiate the various twists and turns of the path. Most of all, I wish I had known more people who were going through the same type of experience. Before I go any further I have to be very very clear about the fact that I am not a medical professional, nor have I ever studied medicine. I am, however, a heart transplant recipient who has been through the experience firsthand. I am also the founder of Ava’s Heart, a non-profit whose mission is to help those that have been given the gift of life have a better quality of life. We are in the midst of developing the most prominent health foundation in this country for those that have been given this most precious gift; LIFE. We have helped over a hundred families since our inception in November 2011, and I have been humbled by the courage every one of them drew upon to withstand the challenges ahead of them. The hope for our organization is to eventually expand our reach to help any transplant recipient across the US with their non-medical needs that insurance doesn’t cover, with the intent to better each patient’s personal transplant journey. The information I am sharing is based solely on what I have seen while I work firsthand with patients, what I myself have experienced, and the countless stories that humble me everyday. In the last four years I have experienced this journey with many patients and their families. I can say that each story is a very personal one. However there are still many things that we all share. I hope that these pages will be a helpful guide through the laughter and the tears that every patient and their loved ones must experience.

What a journey for this special lady who is dedicated to saving lives. After receiving a transplant herself she has committed her life to changing lives and assisting transplant patients navigate through this journey. Very touching stories and experiences by sharing stories by individuals whose lives she has impacted through Ava's Heart, a 501c3 she founded to help others. This book is powerful and more people need to read it and understand the gaps in services that our "medical and insurance system" cause. Ava's profound journal reveals her passion to create system's change and advocacy work to those who do not know where to turn. I highly recommend this book to transplant patients and their families, medical professionals and to philanthropists seeking to truly make a difference

Review Marked Card was very well written. It captures the reader and puts you in a world most people never even dreamed existed. Mark Silverman plays a dangerous game of cat and mouse and causes havoc throughout the mafia from Boston to New York. With all the twists and turns the story is never short of excitement. At times I felt sorry for the main character because of all the personal heartache he suffered throughout most of his mob life. Throughout it all he never made excuses and I admire him for that. He failed to leave out the fact that he was a paid informant and received a check in the amount of $25,000.00 for a case that he assisted the state police in . Just goes to show you that anyone can make up a bunch of lies and sell a book . Don't waste your $ or time reading this !!
