About the Author Author: Lisa Manzione The Bella and Harry series of children's books is Lisa Manzione's first foray into children's fiction writing. As the daughter of a single parent who worked for a major airline, Lisa's exposure to (and interest in) travel began at an early age. Later in life, as Lisa's own children grew up and her love of animals continued, the idea for the Bella and Harry series was born. Illustrator: Kristine Lucco Born in rural Pennsylvania, Kristine's passion for art began at a young age. This interest in art continued and ultimately led Kristine to study at the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale. Now a mother of two avid junior readers, Kristine’s unique talent and particular flair for children’s themes has evolved quite naturally into the world of children’s books and illustrations. She is quick to credit her own children for inspiring this phase of her art, as it is often conceived by seeing the characters and places through their eyes. Children need to learn about this wondrous world - the civilizations, the history, the peoples, the climates, the geography, and the food. Well, author, Lisa Manzione and illustrator, Kristine Lucco will bring the world to your door step courtesy of Bella and Harry.In Paris they visit art museums, see the Eiffel Tower, eat French food, and visit the Arc de Triompe. Lots of famous places and things to see in the very large city of Paris. In the back of our book about Paris, there is a section of Fun French Phrases and Words and a section for Bella and Harry's snapshots of Paris.Each of these books is sturdy and hardcover with thick pages for durability. They will enhance a home, classroom, school, or library providing the young child with an opportunity to learn in a light-hearted manner about various locations in this wonderful world of ours.As Chat With Vera's readers already know, I love it when a young child's book is entertaining as well as educational. His love of expository preaching has grown me as a believer like nothing els. When pastors say "don't take my word for it, study for yourself" and then don't teach how to read the Bible well and ignore teaching important doctrines, the congregation is left helpless. Joe Lamay teaches that communication takes place through words, and words have intended meaning.If you think the average sermon is just fine, and you believe God's word is God communicating himself to us, I highly recommend you read this book.

Lang Neat little book, excellent notes in back (in German), very useful for explaining archaic words and phrases. If you read this book, do look in the net for the dozen or so video clips of amateur and professional actors doing bits from the play.Viel Spaß!

We build our own prison walls By Sankhya In Finding Freedom, author and San Quentin death-row inmate Jarvis Jay Masters compiles a heart-wrenching, funny, and sometimes profane series of anecdotal essays which might make for a simple read were it not for the author's spiritual transformation. If you are looking for a treatise for or against capital punishment or the values or demerits of prison reform, this is not the book for you. Instead, Masters portrays his prison life plainly, and without posturing, religious "one-upmanship", or political commentary. Instead, he tells of his own day-to-day existence and that of his fellow prisoners without the judgment most of us would inject were we in his position. Despair and his probable death are interwoven subtly, but seemingly without guile. His chronicle of improbable transformation from criminal to Buddhist practitioner is applicable to anyone struggling to find a spiritual homestead, and makes the book easy to relate to whether or not the reader shares a similar background with the author. Without explicitly making the intention known, he teaches us all that we are prisoners behind walls of our own erection, and that the only way to escape our prison is to look within.

Davis Faith is known as a powerful force to enable one to overcome emotional and psychological barriers that would deny their humanity. Jarvis Masters shares with us his spiritual transformation in a setting that is life denying. His poignant stories gives one insight on the culture of prison life on death row. Of particular interest is Jarvis himself. He is an incarcerated Black man whose embracing of Vyrayana Buddhism has enabled him to move beyond the violence of prison life. Usually American Buddhism is associated with a white intellectual elite group which appears to ignore the sufferings of those incarcerated. Islam has been known as the religion of choice for jailed Black men while Christianity has provided religious solace and comfort to those imprisoned. Buddha's visit to death row and Jarvis offers a new view of Buddhism. It has broken through its chains of exclusivisity and has offered those who are incarcerated the hope of finding freedom in the worst of circumstances. Jarvis' sharing of his practice of Buddhism is a testament to the great power of a faith to make a difference in one's life. This is a book to be read by all people interested in the transformative power of religion in today's prisons.

Frances has lived all except three years of her life in the land of her heritage and had the privilege of living on land that was bought from the Cherokee by her great, great, great grandfather Barak Norton. She was married to Everett G. Lombard of Whiteside Cove in 1939, and was the mother of three children.

About the Author Victoria Farnsworth was born in California, but grew up on a beautiful island in the Pacific Northwest. She spent three years in California as a teenager, but returned to Washington to graduate from high school. It was during her senior year that she met her husband, and after his return from Viet Nam, they married. They have spent 46 years together and have three married daughters and eight beautiful grandchildren. Victoria has moved to Payson and is enjoying her retirement surrounded by the natural beauty of the mountains in central Arizona. Her first work was published in the Reader’s Digest in August of 1983. She spent the next several years writing poems for family, friends, and church, but never endeavoring to publish her work. During her career as a swim instructor, she was also busy raising a family of three girls. As is every mother, she was busy driving girls to lessons, sports, and church activities. When the girls all left home for school or marriage, she spent time in serious prayer and contemplation. She then embarked on a new career as Clara the Clown. Seven years were spent clowning around up and down the West Coast. As always, she was busy with church service and managed to be a Relief Society President during this time. Her new career ended when a car accident forced her to retire. After becoming a Master Gardener she started a new business doing landscape design. Unfortunately, another car accident forced her to once again give up something she loved. Writing continued to be a hobby. During her ten-year membership in the Glove & Trowel Garden Club, she spent four years as secretary and writing the quarterly update of the club’s activities. In June of 2011, Victoria had an article published in the Northwest Landscape Professional magazine about butterfly gardening. So many people read the article and commented that she should write professionally; a seed was planted! She kept an online journal of her life in Mexico and continues with a website devoted to her new life and home in Payson, Arizona. Now in her retirement, the time has come to share her life experiences. One book could not begin to hold 60 plus years of unforgettable events; hence, this work will take many volumes to tell the story of an ordinary woman living an extraordinary life.

8 of 8 people found the following review helpful. What's Up, Docs? By Franklin the Mouse There was an initial resistance on my part in reading Mr. Volk's 'Chasing the Rabbit'. Based upon a handful of Maine-produced books I've read in the past, I usually found them to be well-meaning works but the writing was dry. It also didn't help that the author's work was self-published because, I assumed, the thing was not good enough to grab a publisher's attention. I was pleasantly proved wrong.Speaking as a father who has a son on the spectrum, it was refreshing to read a book from a man's perspective. Quite a few of the Volk family's experiences echoed our own ordeals in dealing with schools, multiple "specialists", and a society that does not understand the demands of raising a child with high-functioning autism. Dylan's characteristics and many exploits are more extreme than our own son's challenges, but I certainly could relate. Just like Mr. Volk, I've lost count how many times I flipped out in dealing with our son especially when he was younger. 'Chasing the Rabbit' is written in a straightforward manner and devoid of colorful prose. However, the story became more and more engaging after a slow start. Each high-functioning person is unique and comes with their own challenges. There were choices Derek and Amy Volk made that my wife and I would have gone in another direction, but like all of us the Volks are flying by the seat of their pants in a State where our options are limited. Our family happens to live in a Maine town abutting their Scarborough community. Many of the locations and some of the practitioners he mentions were familiar to me. The fact that the author names and shows some of them in an unfavorable light sure isn't gonna be doing them any favors.One thing I found annoying about the author's well done work is their frequent references to God's plan. Heck, the first line in the introduction written by Mr. Volk's wife reads, "The older I become the more I believe that God has a purpose for every life." I'm agnostic. Rolling my eyes at the very beginning of a book usually doesn't bode well. Fortunately, it was not the case with 'Chasing the Rabbit'. Maybe it was because he sprinkles the text with a few F-bombs that kept me interested. I understand how their faith is an important therapeutic tool in coping with life's demands, but magical thinking is not my cup of tea. Also, he does mention in passing their good fortune in having the financial means and a strong marriage in dealing with Dylan, but it can't be stressed enough that many kids fall through the cracks because they are poor and/or living in fractured families. Mr. Volk has written a brutally honest, engaging memoir that is truly worth reading.

This book isn't just a must read for parents of children on the spectrum, its for parents and family members of a child with any type of disability. As a parent of a hard of hearing child, Derek and Dylan's story resonated with me on SO many levels. If you're seeking greater resilience, faith and the ability to find the blessings in your life's journey with your child you owe it to yourself (and your family) to read this book.

6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. A real, raw and unique view of raising an autistic son from a father's point of view By Judd V. As Derek’s brother, and Dylan’s uncle, I knew most of the stories in the book, and some of the behind the scenes situations, too. I was an attendee at a few of Dylan’s presentations (the bird lecture was quite impressive, I have to say) and also witnessed his behavioral issues on more than one occasion. But there was no way for me to know what was truly going on behind closed doors, and in Derek’s heart. Derek’s emotions and feelings were so raw and real about how he felt about Dylan at certain stages, I teared up a few times during certain passages, as things got really bad. This book is a must read by parents with children with similar issues, at an absolute minimum just so they know that they are not alone in their feelings and struggles, and that there can be positive endings to their stories. I can’t help but be impressed with the way Derek and Amy navigated those difficult years the best they could, doing whatever they thought was best at every turn, with no possible road map to follow. But I was even more impressed, and thrilled, to read all of Dylan’s takes on the events. I am sure Dylan will still have his moments of “what was he thinking?” but his level of maturity in his looking back and recognizing the absurdness (for lack of a better word) of his behavior, and the way he thanks Derek and Amy for not giving up on him, makes me believe he is at least on the right track to a happy and productive life on his own. And he could not have gotten to that point without the love and support of his parents, and all of those that truly helped him along the way. I may never get all of Dylan’s humor (which, by the way, can be found by searching for “dielawn comedy” on YouTube), but he has grown so much and I can’t help but be proud of him - and Derek and Amy, of course.
