Beating the Big "C" with mastery of Chi and other great wisdom By Jennifer Cancer patients are already in a state of crisis, but the truth is that the more modern treatments are not without their drawbacks (and high costs); so enter the centuries-old well tested traditions of the East!Finding a legitimate practitioner of Chinese Medicine, e.g. acupuncture, can be a difficult feat; but the author provides a useful guide to help with this. He also explains in detail the many different treatments that Chinese Medicine has to offer. In the event that money is a stumbling block for you, he then introduces many new ways of diet and other self-help methods which the Chinese deem useful in the treatment of cancer. And amongst other things you will also get a crash course in the benefits of meditation and something called qigong (a gentle type of exercise that also combines breathing and meditation); which can promote relaxation, a feeling of serenity, peace, and give the body an easier stance to heal from.Highly recommended – the book contains a lot of very useful ideas and tips; it should be of valuable help to aid with any Western treatments someone is getting for cancer.

By Cayce Hrivnak When it comes to cancer, I know for a fact there are alternatives that can help fight it without solely relying on chemotherapy alone. I've often wondered what the steps or different methods there were that one could take. I started reading this book and opened my mind to the different possibilities. As every battle you fight, you must come up with a plan in how you will defeat your adversary. In this battle, your adversary is eating your body from the inside. In order to win, action must be taken on the outside in order for it to work within. All the advice in this book are the ammo for your soldiers in your battle. We all want to believe that Western medicine is the only way to beat cancer while there are methods from history that prove they work more so. I like that the author discusses that you can use both Eastern and Western medicine treatments instead of choosing one or the other. Not only that, but they give us advice on what to do while recovering from the chemo.Great book and anyone will benefit from it's contents!

I was more than pleased to find a book on the topic of Chinese medicine and how it can be used to beat cancer.I think we rely heavily on Western medicine practices more often than not and ignore the Eastern medicine practices which tend to have proven results over the centuries and not be a synthetic drug that treats symptoms and not the cause. This is a well written book and I highly recommend it. It is evident the author is well versed in Chinese medicine.

Re-writes the book on what we all thought we knew about schizophrenic disorders By pator This book is a genuine account of Schizoaffective Disorder by a young man who as has come through the worst of it and has the strength and courage to face it daily and challenge its power over him. Its athenticity truly touched me.We see Schizophrenia portrayed on television and the movies or read its description in books and think we have some idea of what it is, but until I read this book I realize I didn't have a clue. The book takes you through the author's younger years, long before there would ever be a break or clinical diagnosis, and helps you to see that it doesn't happen all at once, and it doesn't happen because of a single event, and it doesn't happen to just "certain types of people" - all things that pop culture may have you believe in order to expedite a story line or promote the common beliefs. It's something the individual deals with in many ways throughout their life, and it's something that would likely break many of us if we were faced with it on a daily basis the way the author was. After all, I don't think there is a single person that can say they've never suffered from low self-esteem, paranoia, obsessive thoughts or actions at some time in their lives. Now imagine if your brain trapped you in those thoughts and times and wouldn't release you. That is what I imagined when I read this book, and it really, truly opened my eyes. I sincerely hope this book gets the recognition it deserves for what it is and what it does. Its not a clinical read, or highly polished and edited production - it's a true, honest, and thought provoking account from someone who can take you through his own first hand account. Schizoaffective Disorder is not something I think anyone ever expects to experience in their personal life; and I imagine that most, like me, wouldn't recognize it in its early stages. I hope this book can make it into the hands of those children who may feel just as Steve did and those parents who know the loving child they've raised is struggling in ways they can't understand but could possibly recognize through the author's account. The author talks throughout the book about his desire to help others and provide meaning for himself and others, and through his courage and selflessness in sharing his memoirs - I feel he has undeniably achieved that.

On the first page of Dante's Inferno, as the poet begins the story of his descent into hell, he says something surprising: Even to remember it makes me afraid. So bitter it is, death itself is hardly more so; Yet there was good there...Yet there was good there! What extraordinary character a person must have to recognize the good in a place as bitter as death!Reading Steve Colori's account of Experiencing and Overcoming Schizoaffective Disorder is time spent in the company of a man of similar character. Colori's courageous, honest self-appraisal is intended as a gift to the reader who may be going through his own struggle with mental illness. Ultimately, though, the lesson the author brings back from his journey through hell is one that would benefit every reader to learn: "I find happiness to be an extraordinary achievement."

Should be mandatory for medical and nursing students By brenda gray The author writes from his personal experiences in a style that clearly helps the reader understand the vast challenges of dealing with Schizoaffective disorder. Fascinating that he was aware of mental processing issues very early in life, but compensated quite well until early adulthood. His willingness to share the details of numerous spirals and the difficult battles to regain clarity explain the disorder better than any textbook I have seen in 40 years of nursing practice.

Zwei Prager Geschichten (German Edition), by Rainer Maria Rilke

About the Author Rainer Maria Rilke (also Rainer Maria von Rilke) (4 December 1875 - 29 December 1926) is considered one of the German language's greatest 20th century poets. His haunting images focus on the difficulty of communion with the ineffable in an age of disbelief, solitude, and profound anxiety - themes that tend to position him as a transitional figure between the traditional and the modernist poets. He wrote in both verse and a highly lyrical prose. His two most famous verse sequences are the Sonnets to Orpheus and the Duino Elegies; his two most famous prose works are the Letters to a Young Poet and the semi-autobiographical The Notebooks of Malte Laurids Brigge. He also wrote more than 400 poems in French, dedicated to his homeland of choice, the canton of Valais in Switzerland.

Richard Anderson is perhaps best-known in recent years for his roles as the Narrator, Captain Stiles, in the television series Kung Fu: The Legend Continues (1993-1997) with David Carradine and Chris Potter, as well as his role as Buck Fallmont in Dynasty (1986-1987). Finally, the full story of his life and incredible career are revealed in his sensational autobiography. From humble beginnings as a young actor to his first contract with MGM, Richard’s first big impressions on moviegoers were as Chief Quinn in Forbidden Planet (1956) with Walter Pidgeon and Anne Francis and as Tom McAffee in The Buster Keaton Story (1957) starring Donald O’Connor. In the early years of what we now call Classic TV, his dozens of appearances were in such memorable series as Zorro (1958-1959), The Untouchables (1960), Thriller with Boris Karloff (1960), The Rifleman (1960-1963), The Alfred Hitchcock Hour (1964), many appearances on Perry Mason (1966), The Man from U.N.C.L.E. (1966), and Mission Impossible (1967), to name but a few.

Richard eventually became one of the most familiar faces on television in his role as Oscar Goldman in The Six Million Dollar Man (1974-1978) and The Bionic Woman (1976-1978). Discover the million-dollar story of Richard Anderson: At Last, A Memoir. From the Golden Years of M-G-M and The Six Million Dollar Man to Now.

I will always have a soft spot for "Oscar Goldman" :)A few nice tidbits are included about classic movie stars including William Holden and Cary Grant for those who love old Hollywood!

Byers A great read from a versatile and charismatic actor; not a smarmy tell all but an honest look at life in the studio system and beyond. Richard Anderson may owe much to his discovery by Cary Grant and Betsy Blake, but it's his ability to veer from hero to sidekick to villain that have made him such an icon. If you want to read an interesting conversation about an actor's life and his experiences, this is the book for you.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Enjoyable Reading By Liscio I enjoyed this book far more than I expected, since I don't usually read biographies. But the Anderson book surprised me. Maybe it was Anderson's quick, vignette-style of imparting memories; I enjoyed that sort of brief look into things. And I was intrigued that Richard began running into actors at so early an age; it was as if he were destined to be an actor himself. And wow, SO many famous people! Not just famous, but acting "greats". The book never dragged; it moved along quickly. This may be due to the expertise of Al Doshna (co-writer), who has done many celebrity interviews.I also liked looking into how movie studios like MGM were run, and television programming too. I found Anderson's remark about "not being happy with the current state of today's films" revealing, and I concur. I laughed out loud at Anderson's remark about "Kitten With A Whip" being spoofed by Mystery Science Theater 3000; my son and I love MST3K! Going to have to download "Kitten" soon. The book's pictures were fantastic. I found myself turning the pages in hopes that the next page would hold yet another great photo. And finally, I found I really liked Richard Anderson. Already admiring him as an actor, I ended up my reading by feeling close to him. You know, feeling that I was glad that he's here on the planet: a talented, intelligent, humor-loving and compassionate guy. Considering my cynical view of people, that's saying a lot.

Best Ebook PDF The Healing I Took Birth For: Practicing the Art of Compassion, by Ondrea Levine, Stephen Levine

For more than 32 years, Stephen and Ondrea Levine have provided emotional and spiritual support to those who face life-threatening illness and their caregivers; deeply affecting hundreds of thousands of people in the process. The Healing I Took Birth For, which was begun after Ondrea's own medical prognosis that foretold the end of a lifetime of spiritual exploration, is the culmination of her work. Their collaboration, in the service of the dying, especially during the height of the AIDS epidemic, set them both more deeply on the path of compassion--compassion for self, for others, for all.

The Healing I Took Birth For is the heartfelt sharing of Ondrea's life of service and a deeply inspiring example of how one faces illness and great personal difficulties, with a deep spiritual practice and grace. It is the most "intimate collaboration" she and Stephen have worked on and it will inspire readers to find their own way toward living a life of compassion.

The Healing I Took Birth For: Practicing the Art of Compassion, by Ondrea Levine, Stephen Levine

Review "We have been patiently waiting for The Healing I Took Birth For. It is a deeply inspiring account of a life devoted to healing and compassionate service. This beautiful book is filled with grace, love, and humanity. Like a pearl diver, Ondrea dives deep in her own wounds to find the gift that can serve others." --Frank Ostaseski, founder of the Metta Institute"For decades, Ondrea and Stephen have offered themselves in selfless service to all beings who seek a way home within. Once again, they freely share the intimacies of their lives as dharmic teaching for us all. In telling her story, Ondrea validates and elucidates the path of transforming pain into peace. Ondrea's story is one of her awakening to the beauty of her True Nature. It is also a love story of how the two hearts of Ondrea and Stephen beat as One Heart." --Paula Whang-Ramos, M.Div., Ph.D., psychologist, minister at Center for Spiritual Enlightenment; Rich Ramos, R.N., M.S., Pediatric Oncology Nurse at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital"Absorbing these vital heart waves of one life. Congratulations on rotating the axis of the universe. Still quivering." --Gary Gach, Buddhist teacher, author, and translator"As a hospice physician who deals with illness and impending death, I have learned, from Ondrea, the difference between curing the body and healing the shared heart. Ondrea has touched the lives of so many people, and this book will extend her healing work from those who have experienced her compassionate presence to those who will get to know her through her open-hearted words. She is an inspiration to me and to countless others who have been graced by her teachings." --Fred Schwartz, M.D."Ondrea Levine's book reveals her courageous willingness to face the inner linings of her heart and the fearful caverns of her ego-mind. The honesty and transparency of her self-exploration is filled with a sensitivity, grace, gentleness, and wisdom that represents the One. Ondrea paves the way for the reader to follow her in an amazing commitment to a uniquely beautiful journey of the heart. This book is truly a love story of how two extraordinary people become one heart as they face the challenges of illness, pain, and death--not seeing them as enemies, but as an exploration of their way to freedom." --Gerald. G. Jampolsky, M.D., founder of Attitudinal Healing; Diane V. Cirincione, Ph.D., CEO of Attitudinal Healing International"I read this wise and loving journal avidly, with deep gratitude and delight. These intimate old Dharma friends share how broken hearts, nakedly encountering death and mortality, can catalyze open hearts and selfless service. Their grace-full co-meditations and very special brand of partner spirituality will edify and enrich us all." --Lama Surya Das, author of Awakening the Buddha Within and Buddha Standard Time"In The Healing I Took Birth For, Stephen not only autobiographically accounts Ondrea's life, her selfless service, bouts with illnesses, writings, workshops and more, but takes their teachings to a more intimate place than ever before. Through implementing the insights, wisdom, and knowledge shared in The Healing I Took Birth For, I can unequivocally say that I am a better human being because of it." --Chris Grosso, www.TheIndieSpiritualist.com"I have been a huge fan of Stephen and Ondrea Levine's work for many years. Their deep, healing and transformative teachings have had a profound impact on my life. They are authentic teachers of great wisdom and heart." --Marci Shimoff, New York Times bestselling author, Happy for No Reason"This is a brave and intimate, tender and healing story. Great love, strong medicine, just what the heart needs." --Jack Kornfield, author of The Wise Heart"What a story! And how amazing it seemed as I followed the growth or maturation or . . . or expansion of mind and spirit of someone already so obviously ready, 33 years ago, to hop aboard the same spiritual train where you were punching tickets." --Lee Quarnstrom, writer-practioner-prankster"Rarely are we offered the privilege of sharing in the rigorously honest, humbly genuine, and deeply authentic inner pilgrimage of another human being. This is the story of how Ondrea was shaped by a symphony of forces--broken open by people, events and winds that blew both harsh and gentle; punishing and uplifting; through darkness and light. Ondrea is a gift to us all. She shares remarkable clarity, insight and counsel for us to hold dear, to cherish, and to pass on to those souls brave enough to follow Love wherever it may take." --Wayne Muller, best-selling author of Sabbath, and A Life of Being, Having, and Doing Enough"This book is an enheartening masterpiece. I have never felt my heart so close to the surface when reading a book. Ondrea Levine is living proof that grace is not something that pours down from the heavens; it is something that rises up from within us. Reading her story is a blessing not in disguise. This book is the perfect preparation for an enheartened life." --Jeff Brown, author of Soulshaping: A Journey of Self-Creation"The steadfast union of Ondrea and Stephen that forged a path of healing for so many over the past decades now takes us on an unparalleled inner journey. Her story offers guidance for all those who have been wounded in life, and all those who strive to keep their hearts open. By Bhavani Brown The Healing I Took Birth ForThis WONDERFUL book is not only Ondrea's love story but also the healing made possible for her emergence into this world! I loved the weavings of her portrayals brought together with her personal drama and `the paying special attention' of her inner world. The personal difficulties deeply resonated with me!! I found myself choking up many times at various heart wrenching passages. The book is poetically written expressing well how she coped with her upbringing and the many challenges of her brain disorder and serious illnesses. Ondrea is a role model for healing us all with the many twists and turns of her ever-present struggles. I believe that she rebirthed herself into a being that is loving, forgiving, content and insightful. She is and has been so willing to extend loving kindness, service and compassion to others!! As Ondrea so beautifully put it, "The gift in the wound sends mercy to others."The book also has some great little treasures or techniques that can be quite helpful for practices that can bring one into loving awareness.

I picked up my copy at the post office and started reading it on the way home. I couldn't put it down! I read for three solid hours until I finished it. It is simply beautifully written. But what makes this a spiritual classic, is the way the author tells her story. Like the "Autobiograpy of a Yogi", Ondrea takes YOU along on her journey. You go with her. She includes YOU. She takes YOU with HER. From birth. Wow! What a ride! How can you not change? She tells you everything! And you are there with her in the front seat! This makes this a rare autobiography. BECAUSE YOU ARE SEEING THROUGH HER EYES. Did you ever see "Lady in the Lake" with Robert Montgomery? In that movie, Montgomery plays a private eye who is replaced by a camera. You see what the hero is seeing. In this spiritual classic, you will see everything that Ondrea sees. How can an autobiography be any better? To include the reader so that the reader is with her. I couldn't put the book down. She is a brillant writer. This will become a spiritual classic.Let's begin at the beginning. I don't want to ruin this incredible classic for you. But let's begin at the beginning.A real large part of this story seems to have to do with one word. DYSLEXIA. This may have very well made her what she is today. We all think in THOUGHTS and IMAGES. With Dyslexia, this is interrupted. Throughout this journey, her dyslexia seems to have seperated her from others in such a way that she developed an incredible urge to really understand and touch people. Most of us are really quite judgemental. But her dyslexia seemed to set off some sort of great need to understand and help others without the judgemental process. I think it created a lot of doubt about herself. And this created a great need to touch others. Was it worth it? As you read, I think you will understand some of the cost. Obviously, it was and still continues to be a very hard road. But she seems to be doing it! Why don't you join her on this journey? You will have many adventures. Such as when Ondrea becomes expert at lucid dreaming and sees her boyfriend making out in a car with another woman. So she gets in her car and confronts them. And boy was he suprised! Buy the book and start reading. Thank you.

A Timeless Read By Drawingstatic Through the years, few contemporary spiritual teachers have affected my path as much as that of Stephen and Ondrea Levine. The Levine's teachings on forgiveness (both self and others), loving-kindness, healing, and mindfulness, have continually guided me towards living a more authentic and compassionate life, here, and now. In their latest book, The Healing I Took Birth For, Stephen not only autobiographically accounts Ondrea's life, her selfless service, bouts with illnesses, writings, workshops and more, but takes their teachings to a more intimate place than ever before. Through implementing the insights, wisdom, and knowledge shared in The Healing I Took Birth For, I can unequivocally say that I am a better human being because of it.

Michaela tells the tragic story of a mother devastated by the loss of her young child, and does so with strength and clarity. The author never lets her readers forget the overwhelming loss that has shaped her, that continues to shape her, and she doesn’t let herself get away with any fatuous platitudes or easy answers. We are left with the example of endurance, and endurance assumes its own rough nobility. — Keith Taylor

I read "Michaella" more slowly than any other book I've ever read, savoring every word, description, and emotion. A truly outstanding work by a very talented writer.

Powerful Essays -- Five Stars By Ksenia Gabriella Burman’s writing strikes you to the very core – it’s honest, heartbreaking and passionate at the same time. Her sorrow touches the reader intimately because at its heart this is a story of love and what happens when the person Burman loves so dearly – her beautiful young daughter Michaela – dies unexpectedly. There is so much to admire and learn from Burman’s essays. Life deals inexplicable losses every day and the death of a child is the very worst of losses. Burman pulls no punches when writing about the impact of her child’s loss on every aspect of her and her family’s lives, but in the midst of overwhelming grief, the message she sends is one of resilience. In the beginning, she must go on for the sake of her other daughters if nothing else. By writing this book, Burman’s other daughters get to know the sister they lost all too soon. In my case, these essays gave me insight about what my own grandmother endured when she lost three of her five children – two as toddlers. I found myself thinking more and more about her as I read the essays. This is a touching and powerful book of essays – highly recommended for all.

Michaela (Essays) - Gabriella Burman By Amazon Customer Gabriella Burman's collection of essays entiteld Michaela describe the devastation and heartbreak that came along with the sudden death of her oldest child. Her unique way of writing and conveying her story capture the life of her daughter and allow her memory to forever live on. Burman's choice of essays in her book all include the struggling and rewarding aspects that she and her family experienced while caring for a child with special needs. Even though her writing is dedicated to her late daughter, the reader gets a deeper look on Burman's life as a whole. The perspective that Burman gives her readers during this time in her life reflects the intense love that she has for her family as well as her take on just how truly precious the gift of life is.Francesca R.
