Comentario By artemisa Para las románticas de siempre, unir en una historia romance y un poco de erotismo asegura el interés del público que sigue este estilo, sobre todo porque el autor suele vender sus historias a la TV y se convierten en películas de matiné. Although many skin lesions are pigmented, Dermatoscopy of Non-pigmented Skin Tumors: Pink - Think - Blink addresses non-pigmented lesions, which may be more difficult to diagnose. It discusses dermatoscopy not only as a reliable tool for diagnosis, but also for the monitoring of treatment outcomes following topical therapy.

The clinical diagnosis of non-pigmented skin lesions is one of the most challenging in the daily routine. To arrive at a correct diagnosis―or at least an adequate management plan―the clinician needs to collect many pieces of information and put them together like a puzzle. Illustrated with nearly 200 color clinical and dermatoscopic photographs, this book is an invaluable guide for clinicians striving to solve the diagnostic puzzle and correctly identify non-pigmented lesions.

By Machoman I just finished reading this book through the kindle edition; it's an important and relevant subject but reading this short book was not easy--it was very boring for me and required a lot of focus and concentration; I still have to go back through and read it again; the picture quality is acceptable but by no means was it good or excellent; if you enlarge the picture more than a little the pixellation overwhelms the clarity of the images; though the book is mostly images there are not nearly ENOUGH images to make you feel confident; the explanations of the photos are poorly marked because the description PRECEDES the letter designation for that particular image (a. b. c. d.). This book could have been so much better with just double the photos and higher quality photos. Considering the high cost of the kindle book (120.00) I feel that a fair price for it would have been more like 80.00 dollars. I do recommend it because it seems like it is the only book on this subject matter available. I don't want to belittle the efforts that probably went into this work nor do I want to seem unthankful that someone decided to write about this important subject. I am thankful to Iris Zalaudek and all the other authors for this contribution but hopefully the next edition will be much better.

Louisa and Gilles love each other. There's a problem in paradise, though: their marriage is going nowhere. Together, they decide to explore polyamory, the idea that it's possible to have more than one lover--and more than one love. They fall in love with another couple and, embarking on a life-changing course, try to make it work as a quad. Their journey liberates them from the constraints of their unhappy marriage and propels them into a world where they embrace a new way of loving. But this liberation comes with a price. They are challenged in ways they didn't expect, and the experiment takes them to a place they didn't anticipate. They must learn to accept a new understanding of relationships, each other and themselves. With raw and intimate prose, Louisa Leontiades unflinchingly shares her story, with all its drama, passion, joy and conflict as she and her husband stumble, make mistakes, and look for a path to a sustainable polyamorous future. This is not a how-to manual or a guide to polyamory. It is the true story of four ordinary people who challenged monogamy to pursue a utopia of limitless love.

It peels away the layers of expectations, misinformation, and all the ways people normally hide from one another. It's never easy to write about such personal tragedy or joy, and Louisa writes frankly and with insight that is helpful for anyone who has ever loved another person (or several persons). I finished it in one day; I couldn't put it down. It's hilarious, sensual, and refreshing. I love reading but very few books have the depth and bravery included in this memoir. If you're looking for a true tale of how to open your heart and deal with the consequences, this book is for you. It doesn't matter what kinds of relationships you have, there's something in it for everyone.

By missmickee/bookreview Even in modern culture, polyamory, that is good , mature, cultivated and loving relationships between consenting adults seems like a radical alternative choice or lifestyle few people understand or practice. "The Husband Swap: A True Story of Unconventional Love" authored by Louisa Leontiades is a surprising tastefully done and well written memoir of her own marriage and open relationships. While in therapy after Louisa's extra martial affair ended, neither she or husband Gilles wanted to divorce. Instead, at the suggestion of her therapist they both decided to explore possibility of an open marriage. There would be rules: any newcomer had to be aware of the "open" agreement, protection, protection, protection- safe sex always, and the new relationships wouldn't harm either spouse. Later, they were contacted online by Morten and Elena, an experienced long time married couple in open relationships. Sparks flew even before she and Gilles met this couple, and soon there was an engaging loving dynamic between them all, Louisa eventually considered Elena to be her "sister wife," she loved Morten greatly and Elena loved Gilles just as much.It seems challenging enough to find happiness in a conventional marriage and relationship, so it wasn't surprising that there were complications and issues to be worked out. At the start Elena had great difficulty being apart from Gilles: she was an extremely dramatic, direct, often uncompromising woman insisting on her own way. The relationship between Elena and Gilles was consuming and passionate, they broke-up and reunited often. Understandably this put quite a strain on Morten who needed to take time off work to console his wife, while Gilles and Louisa were gradually drifting apart.Interestingly, Louisa wrote a well recieved magazine article in Marie Claire about her open relationship and polyamory. In public these couples were often shunned or asked to leave a restaurant if they were too visible or forward announcing their unconventional relationship status. Their families were not very accepting of their choices and voiced their disapproval, as did several friends; some more understanding than others. As the story moved towards its fascinating conclusion, details are left out concerning Louisa's new circumstances and partners, the story didn't continue with the prior openness after a certain point. The threat to the original marital bonds were predictable, yet with all these conflicts Louisa emerged stronger and more self aware, loving more deeply and intimately then she ever thought possible- and seemed to find much satisfaction and happiness. Many thanks and much appreciation to Thorntree Press, LLC for the e-ARC for the purpose of review.Louisa Leontiades is a freelance writer, her work featured in many notable publications including the Huffington Post. She lives in Sweden, has open relationships, and is the mother of 2 children.

By Sarah Arlen Sharing the good, the bad and the sometimes ugly is a hard thing to do, but Louisa Leontiades has done it in this memoir (which I highly recommend reading with the new companion book, Lessons in Love and Life to My Younger Self: A Companion Guide to The Husband Swap). If you want to really see what one person's first-time experience of polyamory was like without the rough stuff edited out, this book fits the bill. There is so much joy in Louisa's experiences as she goes on her polyamorous journey, and we get to ride along vicariously with that happiness. But I think the honesty about the hard times makes her story truly relatable to everyone. Whether or not you're polyamorous, if you've been through the struggle of not knowing what to do when your family doesn't accept you for all that you are, of butting up against demons inside you that sabotage what you're sure you want out of life, of exploring a new world while not always feeling "good enough," then this book will speak to you.Seeing inside someone's soul is the point of a memoir, so that we can learn from their experiences without having to suffer through the rough stuff ourselves, and for that, this book is a gem.Recommended for polyamorists, but also anyone struggling with being "different," for anyone questioning relationship structures and for people wanting to better understand some of the realities of open relationships.

The publishing of this book is timely as people are getting ignorance nowadays. The author showed us how table sugar was extracted and its effect in our body. Not only that, the author also gave us alternatives, especially for those who can't live without sugar. I would say this book is a MUST for all housewives who are preparing food at home.

By Bloop bloop Direct quote: "You won’t believe that sugar is disguised in the following: · Soft drinks (beverages which enclose carbonated water, sweeteners and essence)."EVERYBODY knows that there's sugar in soda. Everyone. This book is poorly written. It sounds like somebody copied and pasted an article into Google Translate, and tried to publish it on Amazon to make a quick penny. You might as well just google, "Sugar," or and click on the first 4 free, trashy articles you come across. That's what this book is.

Ebook PDF Online SuperBetter: A Revolutionary Approach to Getting Stronger, Happier, Braver and More Resilient - Powered by the Science of Games, by Jane McGonigal

An innovative guide to living gamefully, based on the program that has already helped nearly half a million people achieve remarkable personal growth.

In 2009 renowned game designer Jane McGonigal suffered a severe concussion. Unable to think clearly or work or even get out of bed, she became anxious and depressed, even suicidal. But rather than let herself sink further, she decided to get better by doing what she does best: She turned her recovery process into a resilience-building game. What started as a motivational exercise quickly became a set of rules for "post-traumatic growth". These rules led to a digital game and a major research study. Today nearly half a million people have played SuperBetter to get stronger, happier, and healthier.

But the life-changing ideas behind SuperBetter are much bigger than just one game. In this book McGonigal reveals a decade's worth of scientific research into the ways all games change how we respond to stress, challenge, and pain. She explains how we can cultivate new powers of recovery and resilience in everyday life simply by adopting a more "gameful" mind-set.

McGonigal shows that getting superbetter is as simple as tapping in to the three core psychological strengths that games help you build:

  • Your ability to control your attention and therefore your thoughts and feelings
  • Your power to turn anyone into a potential ally and to strengthen your existing relationships
  • Your natural capacity to motivate yourself and supercharge your heroic qualities, like willpower, compassion, and determination

SuperBetter contains nearly 100 challenges anyone can undertake in order to build these gameful strengths. It includes stories and data from people who have used the SuperBetter method to get stronger in the face of illness, injury, and other major setbacks as well as to achieve goals like losing weight, running a marathon, and finding a new job.

Dejonghe Gamer or not, SUPERBETTER will improve your life; it is this year’s POWER OF HABIT. The fact is: Jane McGonigal outlines a surefire way to gain mental, emotional, physical, and social resilience. The fact is: “game play supercharges self-efficacy, work ethic, and determination.”McGonigal is the “first person in the world to earn a Ph.D. studying the psychological strengths of gamers and how those strengths can translate to real-world problem solving.” She brings TONS of research and scientific findings into practical, playful—gameful—approaches to our everyday stresses and problems. It’s a fun way to make major improvements in life. “You’re going to get SuperBetter at something, not SuperBetter from something.”After applying her studies to herself, in creating “Jane the Concussion Slayer”, and seeing how it worked, McGonigal opened the “game” to over 400,000 people. Most of them saw improvements within 2 weeks, many seeing even more noticeable improvements 4-6 weeks into the program. The program went on to be controlled trial at University of Pennsylvania and a clinical trail at Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. SuperBetter is now a website with accompanying apps on iTunes and the Play Store. Here’s the gist, in 7 rules of the game:1) Challenge yourself.2) Collect and activate power-ups.3) Find and battle the bad guys.4) Seek out and complete quests.5) Recruit your allies.6) Adopt a secret identity.7) Go for an epic win.The book is broken into three parts: one to tell us why games make us better; two to teach us how to be gameful; three to build adventures in love, body transformation, and time enrichment. If you want to geek out (who doesn’t?) there are 12 pages covering the science of SuperBetter and 20 pages of footnote references. I particularly liked the end-of-chapter “Mission Complete” sections with the specific bulleted “Skills Unlocked”.McGonigal waited five years to write the book to know that it works—and it does! Not only does she include the references to the studies, but she includes many, many stories of actual people and their triumphs. The successes are to be found everywhere. Even when I posted a picture of getting SUPERBETTER in the mail, I ran into Denisse on Twitter (@dtakes23) and found that she used SuperBetter’s game rules to save her life. (You can review her progress via #TakesKidney.)The idea stems from people always wishing ill or hurting people to “get better soon”. It’s not enough to get better, but to get—SUPERBETTER. The ideas apply not only to post-traumatic growth as well as post-ecstatic growth. Through proven tools, we are taught how to activate the parasympathetic system instead of allowing the sympathetic system (fight or flight). We’re shown how to turn anxiety into excitement and threats into challenges. As McGonigal writes,“The actual stressful circumstance you face does not determine whether you view it as a challenge or a threat.”The whole point is to “play purposefully”. As it is pointed out: “A skillful, purposeful activity that gives you direct control over your thoughts and feelings.” McGonigal tackles “All ways that we commonly think and act when we play games.” This can be anything from Candy Crush Saga to Call of Duty. There is a purpose behind games! It can be anything from finding reciprocity in feeding friends’ chickens in Farmville to working with leading a team in World of Warcraft. The author is also sure to point out the drawbacks, as well as the benefits of certain types of games. Such as Call of Duty, where there is improved cognitive function and better performance in high-stress situations, yet Increase hostility or decreases empathy when someone plays against strangers. The question is asked: “Do you play to escape real life, or do you play to make your real life better?”“Work ethic is not a moral virtue that can be cultivated simply by wanting to be a better person. It’s actually a biochemical condition that can be fostered, purposefully, through activity that increases dopamine levels in the brain.”Everything is covered, from building SMART quests (specific, meaningful, adaptive, realistic, and time-framed) to Active Constructive Responding, or ACR: 1. Show enthusiasm, 2. Ask questions, 3. Congratulate and express happiness for them, and 4. Relive the experience with them. Oh, and I LOVE loving the gratitude: 1. Find the benefit, 2. Acknowledge the effort, and 3. Spot the strength. And these are just small samplings of many “quests” that are offered throughout the 480 pages of the book.No matter your current successes or ailments, SUPERBETTER is ready to help you recruit allies, activate your secret identity, battle the bad guys, and activate power-ups. It’s fun; it works.

SuperHype - same old same old dressed up in the questionable science of games By HypeTamer This book would be better named SuperHype primarily because McGonigal has grossly exaggerated the science behind gaming. The research on McGonigal’s game SuperBetter best exemplifies this. The dropout rate from the SuperBetter study was huge - about 90%. This is despite recruiting a group of highly motivated participants. So the bottom line is that even the most motivated people struggled to engage with SuperBetter. The high dropout rate makes any claims to the benefits of SuperBetter highly questionable at best and realistically probably irrelevant. As the authors of the research say “……. should be interpreted cautiously in light of high attrition rates and the motivated, self-selected sample.”Extrapolating the dropout rate you'd probably find that nobody continued to use the Superbetter. It's like many of those apps that seemed useful when we purchased them, but the novelty rapidly dissipates, and they now lie dormant on our phonesI’d also point out the research was very poorly designed. As mentioned earlier – small biased sample (predominantly females interested in positive psychology), no placebo control (is it better than a sugar pill?), self report measures, and no reasonable follow-up (does it last longer than a month? – most of these interventions don’t).The poor quality of the research and the high dropout rate probably explain why the research couldn’t be published in a first grade journal.I have to admit I was a little puzzled by McGonigals poor understanding of science. The book seemed like a collection of those "hypey" press releases for studies which tend to exaggerate outcomes rather than understanding the nuance and limitations in research. But it became clear when I googled her background. She doesn't appear to have a background in science.Interestingly the New York Times had similar concerns about the hype of superbetter. (Google "superbetter and the date of play"). They nicely summarise superbetter when they say "....Superbetter operates exclusively in the hyperbolic register".As Adam Smith said " Science is the great antidote for the poison of enthusiasm and superstition". Mcgonigals' book is enthusiastic but not doesn't measure up when viewed through the lens of science.I have just focused on the gaming of science in the book. The New Yorker also carried an excellent review that expressed far more eloquently than I could many of the other issues with the book (google “A new movement seeks to turn life’s challenges into a game.”)Finally the book is hardly revolutionary. For those who have read self help books, the information will look awfully familiar to you. This is a central theme of the other negative reviews of this book.It really is the same old information dressed up in the hype of gamification. An article in fortune magazine (google"it looks like the whole gamification thing is over") best captures this. I guess this is why McGonical avoids using the term gamification.Don't you find it intriguing that Superbetter has supposedly helped 400000 people, yet no one else seems to be able to make gamification work? And everyone of the 400000 people kept using SuperBetter, which is contrary to what the superbetter study found. How could this be?As an aside, SuperBetter is based on positive psychology. And research suggests the impact that positive psychology has is limited. See [...]So would I recommend the book? If you are into science fiction or fairy tales, then you might find the book interesting. However if you after something that will improve your wellbeing, then probably not. Games might work for some people but for most they are just an interesting diversion from realityAnd Ms McGonigal - I am happy to correct any factual errors in this review.UPDATE:Ms McGonigal has been given the opportunity to correct any factual errors in this review. She has chosen not to which suggests the review, all negative, might have some merit.

By Jyazz VERY useful, in-depth break down of why games work and how to use them.I personally have used the Superbetter app on and off for a couple of years, and it has been a great experience - helped get me through some of the toughest times in my work. From there, I've experimented with a bunch of different ways to approach my life in a 'gameful' way - with some great results. The resilience that superbetter - and the 'gameful mindset' Jane McGonigal discusses in her book - gave me was one of the key elements in getting me through some really difficult transitions in my life and in my work.I'm in my mid-20's, played a lot of games as a kid, but I've hardly touched anything more than Portal in about 5 years. The concepts outlined in Superbetter have brought back some of the stuff I used to love about games, but now with a lot more meaning (because the game is my life - and not a complex monstrosity of an adventure video game that I might not want to commit 50 hours of gameplay to).I'll definitely be getting my friends into the book and game.

Considered an essential resource by many in the field, Diving and Subaquatic Medicine remains the leading text on diving medicine, written to fulfil the requirements of any general physician wishing to advise their patients appropriately when a diving trip is planned, for those accompanying diving expeditions or when a doctor is required to assess and treat anyone who has been involved in a diving accident.

For this fifth edition the original author, Carl Edmonds, is joined by a new team of collaborators and the content has been entirely refreshed and updated throughout. Clinical cases, a feature popular with readers, are expanded, as is the illustrative content. Established and emerging diseases of diving medicine are all covered in full, as is the latest in types of diving, including free and indigenous diving, and associated equipment. Each medical disorder is discussed from a historical, etiological, clinical, pathological, preventative and therapeutic perspective in the informative and accessible style that has made previous editions so popular.

From the PREFACE. The voyage of Captain Thomas Crapo and his wife in a dory boat from New Bedford, Massachusetts, to England, although several years ago, is as fresh in the memory of the people as though it was but yesterday. I did not see them or the boat when they sailed, but I was anxious to get the daily papers, in order to find out if they were reported, and was more than pleased to see that every time they were reported they were both well and in good spirits. And at last the papers announced the arrival of the captain and his plucky wife at Penzance, England. People did not think so much about the captain making the attempt as they did the idea of taking his wife along. And as the voyage was ended without any serious disasters the newspapers of every country loudly applauded them. Since it was reported that the attempt was to be made, I was very anxious to see the hero, but never did to my knowledge, until about five or six years ago, when I in company with my wife attended one of the churches on a Sunday evening. When near the close of the evening services the pastor extended an invitation to everyone present who would like to testify for Jesus. Several responded and gave their testimony, when presently a gentleman directly in front of me arose and made a few remarks. After concluding his speech the pastor spoke in this manner as near as I can recall it : Thank God, after years: of trials and tribulations on the briny deep, and crossing the Atlantic ocean in a small dory, Captain Crapo at last acknowledges his superior, and now stands before the whole world a living witness for Jesus Christ. Praise the Lord. I was all attention at once, the one I had longed most to see was before me, and I could scarcely keep my eyes from him. As I had sailed the ocean myself I could readily foresee some of the dangers they would have to face in that little boat, and his wife being with him when there was scarcely room for one and turn around, made the matter worse, as they would naturally encounter gales, when the captain would find it all he could do to look after the boat, say nothing of his wife. After their arrival they had a little book printed about the voyage which they sold for five cents, and everyone seemed to want them. I got one through a friend of mine and eagerly devoured its contents. A short time ago I was introduced to the captain by his wife, whose acquaintance I had made nearly two years before, and I found him a modest, unassuming man, and not addicted to bragging about his exploits. In talking with him on several occasions, I made up my mind that no adventures had been written that could .equal the personal experience of the captain of more than thirty years at sea. And I proposed the idea of publishing his adventures to the world. After carefully considering the matter he at last consented to do so, as many people had advised him the same a great many times before. But, says Captain Crapo, the people of today are looking for something romantic, that never really existed, and would probably think my book too tame, as I will not have anything in it but truths whether it sells or not, and therefore kind reader you can be assured that every word enclosed between the covers of this book about Captain Crapo and his wife are facts, and no fairy tale to mislead. So with the kind permission of our friends everywhere we will begin our story as told by the captain himself, as correctly as he can recall the facts; many of minor importance no doubt have passed from his memory long ago, but those coupled with his experience written in this book, he will probably remember as long as he lives.

The First Couple of Cruising By Norm The true story of a small boat voyage across the Atlantic Ocean during the summer of 1877 by a couple from New Bedford, MA. It may be the first voyage of pleasure by any couple ever. "Pleasure" in the sense that it was not a trading voyage. The story begins in 1858 with Thomas Crapo's running away to sea at age 14, whaling, jumping ship, a US Navy enlistment, some time with the US Army during the Civil War, work on trading schooners and eventually ascending to the captaincy of his own ships. For reasons not fully explained, he decides to have a 20 foot decked over whaleboat style cat-schooner built for a trip from New Bedford to England. No one had ever before done such a thing to our knowledge. Just before departure, his wife, Joanna, says she's going to. With masterful understatement he allows that if he'd known she was interested, he'd have made the boat a bit bigger. The transit took almost two months of hard going. The story is well told in every respect.A very modern cruising couple aspect is that after arriving in England they went on a tour to promote their adventure by displaying their boat and answering questions. Upon returning to the USA, they did the same thing, exhibiting the vessel and answering questions from the public. Every thing they did was a first. The Crapos preceded ocean voyagers Slocum, Blackburn, and Voss by a couple of decades. Except for Slocum's sail back from South America with his wife and kids, there are no parallels. In many ways Crapos were the ancient equivalent to some of today's most well respected cruising couples. Couples such as the Hiscocks, Irvings, and Pardys arrived on the scene much later.Missing from the book is some helpful material such as maps or a time line. The editing is pretty good with a few easy to get past errors. The cover picture is completely incorrect. Those aside, anyone who is interested in origins of a couple "gone for a cruise" should read this true tale. In other respects, it is a seafaring lifestyle story from the last part of the 19th century.I enjoyed the story as a companion to the many other couples gone cruising books.

The original has been in the family for generations. Capt Crapo was my great great something Uncle. His wife Johanna is listed in the Guinness World Book of Records as the first woman to sail across the Atlantic in a small boat which is in this epic. John wrote the book. I do not know what William Cowin's role was although the Cowin name is in he family way back. As I understand it,Enjoy the book. Glad to see it kept alive. Its real America.
