Burke I just received my coffee table edition of Diana Ross' Reflections book, by Ian Phillips. The front cover is captivating, and shows me that this woman is a true beauty! To still be in the spot light after all these years is amazing! Her focus on her fans leaves us speechless. I am so happy that a true fan like Ian Phillips has focused on Diana's music and career, and not her personal life. Her personal life is hers alone, and nobody should touch that. I love the layout of the book, and the colors that pop out, in the titles. Her discography is mind blowing, and it spells it all out for us, her fans! I have loved Diana Ross when she performed on TV with the Supremes on the Ed Sullivan show. Buying her albums, tapes and CD's was the bulk of my listening pleasure. I do hope that all Diana Ross fans enjoys this beautiful book, on a beautiful lady with such a lovely voice, who makes us smile! A big thank you to Ian Phillips for making writing such a special book that will be cherished for years to come!

As a long time fan of Diana Ross, I have read almost everything (I thought) written about her. This book includes stories I'd not heard before. That's a treat for any true fan.And the pictures! Most of them I have never seen before. That is very exciting for me.Additionally, the author's insights into her career are interesting food for thought and quite astute. He examines each album through every phase of her career from the earliest days with the Supremes through her last album of new material, I Love You.And that's what I would say to this book - I Love You!Thank you to the author for this magnificent tribute to my favorite recording and movie star.

By michael brady what a fantastic book, just perfect addition to a cuppa! the book is bright and fresh ! from front cover shot to the great back cover of the girls, its easy to read, love the big bold print , easier to read and to flick from chapter to chapter at whichever point of interest in Miss Ross's career! Its written best of all from a FAN! pure and simple & what I like is the 'fan' point of view, me being one of many thousands who have sat in the audience watching this world icon, therefore I love the photographs from all the fans who capture Miss Ross on stage throughout her career, and the sheer joy of the pictures, transport me back into the arenas of the world! The author has pulled of the rarity here being from a fans point of view and steered clear of all the here say! that fills the inches of gossip mags, no trivia 'did you know'? here just a strong bold factual account of a body of work , well done, now excuse me while I indulge myself into another chapter

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Entertaining short story that really happened By Kitty Smith Mavy's short story about a road trip from hell with a boss who surely spawned from the same location is both painful and amusing. Sixteen year old Emmett, armed with a newly minted driver's license and a youthful sense of trust, sets out with his boss to deliver a $16,000 chandelier halfway across the US.What happens is a never ending series of trainwrecks that will make you cringe, especially if you're reading through older, wiser eyes and foresee the holes young Emmett has yet to fall in. The narration is casual storytelling, simple and to the point. An entertaining, short story made memorable for the fact that it really happened.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Crazy story! By Ally This is a great read - hard to believe it is a true story! These are the kinds of moments that make life memorable - for good or for bad. I admire the author's optimism and enthusiasm.

If all you know about Seattle is the Space Needle and Pike Place Market, or that it rains a lot, or that "Grey's Anatomy" takes place here, then 100 Things to Do in Seattle Before You Die (Reedy Press) is going to open up a whole new city to you. Foodies can binge on savory seafood at The Walrus and the Carpenter, swank fare at Canlis, burgers at Dick's and a cornucopia of organic, sustainable delights at the neighborhood farmer's market. Outdoor adventurers can take on Mount Rainier, or closer to home, trek out to the lighthouse at West Point or sail out on the Sound. Sports fans will find lots of green and blue adoration of all things Seahawks and Mariners, but they can also embrace their inner kid and play flag football and kickball as part of the Underdog Sports League. Music lovers can find bands to listen to every night, for cheap and without the hassle of ticket haggling -- and they can also pay homage to Jimi Hendrix in his hometown. Others can take in the big top antics of Teatro ZinZanni, burlesque beyond boudoir aspirations and the raucous energy of Rollergirls. And if your inclination is to go indoors when it's gloomy outside, you're not alone, and luckily there's plenty of options, such as the Seattle Art Museum, MOHAI, the Wing Luke, Archie McPhee and the REI flagship. Whether you're visiting or here to stay, there's more than 100 things to do here - but hopefully, this is just the start to that journey of discovery. For someone who lives in the Puget Sound there isn't much in the book. It might be useful for someone totally new to the area. But then again there are no secrets in book you can get the same information on the internet for free.

The Travelogue Poems: Tales of England, France, The Netherlands, New York, Spain, The Channel Islands, Scotland and Wales., by Dean Fraser

From the Author Dean Fraser realises how fortunate he is to be able to combine two great loves of his life - travelling and writing poetry. The Travelogue Poems follows Dean's footsteps as he takes in England, France, The Netherlands, New York, Spain, The Channel Islands, Scotland and Wales...but not on the same day! Dean cannot help but usually bring along his sense of humour for the journey or perhaps a little gentle social observation and comment. Dean says "I always see my poetic stories as glimpses into moments of time, rather like seeds trapped in amber, windows showing a view into past events and places I have been"

About the Author Dean Fraser is a performance poet, travelling far and wide to perform. He is know as The Quantum Folk Poet for some reason that has become a little lost in the mists of time. facebook.com/dean.fraser.author

By Amazon Customer This was a fine collection of concise poems describing the ancient lands of the United Kingdom and the busy streets of New York. It makes me want to visit these places find some inspiration in the landscapes myself. There are some poems that rhyme which made it fun for me to read out loud to myself. If you're into poetry and travel, this is one book to have with you.

Tucked away among the letters, diaries, and other ephemera in the Smithsonian's archives lies a trove of rarely seen snapshots of some of the twentieth century's most celebrated artists. Unlike the familiar official portraits and genius-at-work shots, these humble snaps capture creative giants with their guard down, in the moment, living life. Pablo Picasso stands proudly on a balcony with young daughter Maya—a tiny, meticulously inked annotation penned by an unknown hand proclaims that "he's very much in love." Jackson Pollock morosely carves a turkey while his mother, Stella, and wife, Lee Krasner, look on. A young Andy Warhol clowns for the camera with college friend Philip Pearlstein, and in a later shot more closely resembles his famously enigmatic public self at a gallery opening with John Lennon and Yoko Ono.

Artists Unframed: Snapshots from the Smithsonian's Archives of American Art, by Merry A. Foresta

Review "A charming selection of everyday snapshots depicting artists on vacation, at parties and with their dogs.. Merry A. Foresta's informative text contains tidbits as surprising and intimate as the photos." -New York Times"Artists Unframed presents more than 100 photographs from the collections of the Smithsonian Archives of American Art, all depicting famous artists in intimate, personal moments. Some images are posed, others are candids. There's an un-self-conscious Andy Warhol on the beach at Fire Island, N.Y., sprawled out on the sand with his friends. A young Ansel Adams mugs for the camera in a train station photo booth. Pablo Picasso poses in shorts on a sunny balcony with his young daughter, Maya - the photograph inscribed, "His daughter with whom he's very much in love." -Los Angeles Times"Legendary artists being perfectly ordinary." -Vulture.com"Snapshots offer an informal, often candid look at a person, which explains the intrigue of Artists Unframed, a new book that features rarely seen pictures of the 20th century's top artists." -ArchitecturalDigest.com"The Smithsonian's archives contain hundreds of photos of 20th-century artists away from their studios. From Pablo Picasso to Frida Kahlo, they are captured on the beach, carving a turkey, petting their dog. More than 100 of these are collected in a new book called Artists Unframed. "In the popular imagination, artists are romantic, exotic beings who live glamorous lives," writes curator Merry Foresta in the introduction, "but these unassuming snapshots depict them with their families, friends and lovers" -The Guardian"These casual pictures convey an unrehearsed truthfulness that formal portraits do not.... A 1945 day at the beach with Jackson Pollock is a standout, while pictures of undergrad Andy Warhol hanging out with fellow students at the Carnegie Institute of Technology (1948) surprise and intrigue." - Library Journal"This collection of over 100 rarely-seen snapshots from the private papers of many of the artists peels a way a layer of mystique and provides a glimpse into the subtle ways in which they appeared to unwind like the rest of us." -WashingtonPost.com

About the Author Merry A. Foresta is an independent curator and arts writer. A former curator of photography at the Smithsonian Institution, she served as the founding director of the Smithsonian Photography Initiative from 2000 to 2010.

By The Book Quarry This book was an interesting read between characters and the plot.Apolo is an alpha male use to getting what he wants. He is rich and seeking to do more.Caitlyn enjoys her work, the challenge, then she moves up to Apolo's second in command and finds something else she wants to acquire. These two are electric together. He is commanding and likes the fact she is a strong woman who can handle hard to deal with things. The story kept me entertained even when I was trying to keep up with what was going on. The author succeeded in making me love both these characters as well as making me want to help knock down the competition. Enjoyable fast read with a hot alpha male that most women would love to have for their own.***I was given a copy of this book by the publisher in exchange for my honest and fair review

He's strong and knows what he wants, but he can also be gentle and loving. Caitlyn is a strong woman and not afraid to speak her mind. The love story between Apolo and Caitlyn sizzles. These two are just good together. If you're in the mood to read a hot romance, this is the book for you!

Laser technology is changing quickly and this is the most up-to-date text that I have found. The other book sin the series are excellent as well.

This textbook is current, easy to navigate and has copious pictures and diagrams, well developed patient education sheets, consents and procedure flow sheets. The physics, histology, tissue interactions and safety of each laser treatment and wavelength are presented in a sensible manner that serves as a great reference for neophytes and more experienced laser practitioners alike. The videos on the ebook are well filmed and offer a wealth of insight.I regularly recommend this book to my students and staff. In full disclosure, yes, I am a bit of a nerd and I enjoyed reading every well laid out page. :-)Congratulations Dr Small, and many thanks for this much needed addition to our library!Ed Zimmerman, MD Medical Director Las Vegas Laser & Lipo; President of the American Board of Laser Surgery, Inc.

The quality of the many illustrations is also outstanding. This is the ideal text for anyone entering the field; but browsing it will also be a pleasure for the experienced reader. It is a highly recommended "practical" textbook.

With one foot still in its Soviet past, Belarus might not be the most obvious choice for travellers, but its isolation is at the heart of its appeal. Those who venture here will find a history rich in heroism and tragedy, set amid a landscape of primeval birch forests, snow-edged lakes and cornflower fields, replete with golden-orbed Russian Orthodox churches and villages where age-old traditions still hold sway. While it's easy for visitors to feel as though they've slipped into another time and dimension, they'll encounter singular hospitality and a genuine welcome.Nigel Roberts' Belarus, the only standalone guide in English to the country, combines detailed background information with expert practical advice for those seeking to take the road less travelled.

Belarus (Bradt Travel Guides), by Nigel Roberts

Review ‘Nigel Roberts’ new guidebook to Belarus, just published by Bradt Travel Guides, is authoritative and insightful … This is the Belarus which is very competently mapped in the first ever English guidebook to the country … Nigel Roberts, author of the new volume, has produced a text that is authoritative, insightful and helpful for travellers to the country … Getting to grips with Belarus isn’t easy. Roberts has managed to get beyond Soviet-style monuments and hotels with dreary décor to write with enthusiasm about everything from Belarusian bathhouses to Old Believers. He is particularly strong in his accounts of everyday life and culture. The volume has decent coverage of Belarus’ six major cities …Roberts is strong again on national parks and nature reserves, a theme that has always been a feature of so many Bradt guides. And there are some wonderful descriptions of the extreme south-east of the country, an area devastated by fallout from Chernobyl’. Hidden Europe Magazine

About the Author Nigel Roberts is an ex-lawyer turned author. He is heavily involved in sustainable development projects in Belarus through his charity www.wova.org.uk

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Fails as a travel guide By Thomas Simonyi I have bought this book hoping that it will provide all the practical information I will need while travelling in Belarus. Although it has some good stories and lists hotels, attractions etc, lots of essential stuff is missing here. Just some examples:- There are maps about the main cities in the book - but many street names, including names of streets where attractions mentioned in the book are located, are missing.- The author seems to believe that the reader speaks Russian decently (or that Belorussians tend to speak English, which is not the case) - and gives you instructions like "to be sure, call them in advance whether they are open".- Information about how to get to places using public transport is missing almost everywhere. Instead, the author gives you a detailed description how to reach a place by car - something that would be very easy to check on Google Maps (unlike gathering information about e.g. bus routes not to mention timetable) .- The content of the book hasn't been updated everywhere. There is e.g. a long description about the Patriotic War Museum in Minsk (the Nr 1 attraction of the capital), telling that it will definitely be excellent when it opens - in a book that was supposedly went to the press in February 2015. The museum opened in July 2014.Being the only detailed guidebook about Belarus in English, probably you will buy this book if you want to travel there, but expect to make some homework on the net if you want to travel there independently.
