A Excellent Read By Vicki CASE EATING FROM THE CHERRY TREEI wasn't quiet sure exactly what to expect when I opened the covers of Eating From The Cherry Tree but I was certainly not disappointed. I was captivated from page one of the tale of how a young Jewish girl goes on to be a high-class madam in the UK.The author tells her life's story in a very graphic & honest way. She holds nothing back - neither in the trials & tribulations she endured, or in her written account of them.It will make you laugh. It will make you cry. But most of all it will make you also reflect on things in your own past; things buried; things you'd rather not remember you've done. It will make you realise (probably for the first time), that you are not alone.How many times have you endured unwanted sex; but you aren't a lady of the night? How many times have you had sex for sex sake; only to be left unsatisfied & disappointed? How many times have you found yourself in positions you'd rather you hadn't?Eating From The Cherry Tree is a well written tale; not told in a erotic or explicit manner; but expressed in common everyday language & words that cant be misconstrued, as to their meaning.I am in awe of the author's courage in authoring this book. Although Eating From The Cherry Tree is Vivien's debut book; she has cemented her place in the annals of literary history with this; her tell all memoir.Vivien; I salute you. Congratulations on a great debut book.

Greene Such an incredible journey you get to take with a young girl turned brothel owner and the life that she led.This memoir has everything you expect and quite a bit more that will shock you. The ability to experience Vivien’s life events through her telling of them is incredible.I shared her heartbreak, her pain, felt elated at her successes, and could commiserate with her about some of her choices in life partners.I was completely fascinated and captured from page one of this book. I almost feel as I know her now (and would love a friend like her as well). Hearing the first hand account of a Madam was enthralling and I feel I understand that profession better now.At the center of this whole telling one has to remember that this is a real woman showing the rest of us her life. I am amazed by her resilience and perseverance.Read this book, get to know Vivien, she seems to be one amazing lady.

It's certainly an eye opener, it is also an incredibly honest book.It's a book about sex, but there's no attempt to titillate, or arouse the reader. These things happened...there's a wise saying telling us that the truth is stranger than fiction, the events of Vivien's life illustrate the proverb perfectly.No matter how much time I spend crafting my erotica.. I cannot hope to achieve the mood, the beautiful, yet stark reality of Vivien's life story.It's an engaging narrative, Vivien tells her story in a refreshingly uncomplicated way. A happy childhood in a loving Jewish family, Vivien's choices take her from prostitution to Madame of a high class brothel. There is no attempt to dissemble...this happened, this is how and why this happened.If the reader is expecting shame, or guilt he/she will be disappointed...there's none of that in this book. Why should there be?And snapping at the heels of illicit sex, come the secrets. Celebrities, politicians...a prerequisite for a Madame of a high class brothel, is discretion.A few months ago I ran a blog post about a famous 1961 Court case. It was popularly known as the Profumo Affair and involved John Profumo, the Minister of State for War, a call girl, Christine Keeler and Eugene Ivanov, a Soviet naval attaché at the Soviet Embassy in London. Ivanov was also engaged in espionage. Christine was sleeping with both men. It was a security mess at the highest level. The case ended untidily, with a career in ruins, the suicide of a good man and the subsequent downfall of the Conservative government.I messaged Vivien on Facebook. She knew everyone involved in that trial. It was a case that registered great changes in how sexuality was perceived, our personal attitudes to sex and our subsequent behaviours. Think about what you are reading and let the huge cultural changes that were precipitated by Vivien and her generation sink in. What I am finding the most fascinating is the trip in NYC. I feel like I'm on a guided tour of Central Park-on my list of things to do some day. So detailed and descriptive.Book is about a man who has many connections in the cities he travels to. He lives in CA and is part of a band that has gigs at bars. He runs into women that he wants to get to know better. He also lives for his dog, Zeke which in turn attracts the women to the man.Love the dialog between Townes and Milton the bar tender in NYC, so natural and fun. Loved hearing of the actress on the Broadway show and all the places they are able to visit.His editor can't find anybody to pick the book up to market it and he's down in the dumps over it. Felt his pain over getting the book sold but others don't let him give in....Love how the book got its title and the time spent at the vineyard. Very wise advice. He's got a few interested females, some on the west coast, one on the east coast and the vineyard trip dawned bright on what he must do the next day.Lots of characters and most are easy to keep track of. Didn't read the first book and am wondering what the next book will be about as some things are left in the wind in this book.Good read and liked how at ease Townes is when it comes to talking to others he doesn't even know. So relaxed and himself.I received this book from the author in exchange for my honest review.

Cozza delivers the goods with Near Somewhere By horrorgirldonna In his first novel, “Nowhere Yet,” Edward Cozza introduces us to an array of engaging (yet, o always likable!) characters, like Rex, Grant, Annie, Isobelle, and Kat. It was a tale of reconnection, old flames, and new friends. Now, with the second part of his trilogy, we meet up with Kat and Annie again, along with Townes, a fellow who’s feeling a little disjointed lately. He doesn’t seem to feel a connection with anyone. His life is endless travel, it seems, and his life is passing him by without anyone with whom to share his experiences. But suddenly, when three women enter his life, things become … complicated.Just as he did with the first installment of this excellent series, Cozza introduces us to a group of odd, interesting, and sometimes sketchy, characters. Pair those characters with glamorous settings including New York, Dallas, and Southern California, and you have a book that’s difficult for any reader to put down. I just had to see what would happen next and how Townes was going to cope. I recommend this book to anyone who appreciates good writing—plain and simple. The dialogue is authentic, the plot is well-paced and keeps you on your toes, and the descriptions paint vivid, easy-to-visualize mind movies. Nicely done! I can’t wait for the final installment in this terrific trilogy!

He had written a book that would hopefully be published, he played various musical gigs with his best friend, and he did consulting that took him from California to New York. So what was the problem? He was ready to share his experiences and settle down with someone. At that point, not one, but three women walk into his life. Could it get any more complicating?This story was a bit puzzling to me. I kept getting the feeling that Towne was going to wake up and find out that it was all a story in his book, or that he was being treated as an alcoholic who had lost it. I really wasn’t sure that everything was on the up and up. And I’m not sure if the author meant the plot to read that way or not. Otherwise, the story was enjoyable to me. I liked the character camaraderie. I just wish that there had been more closure to some parts of the story.

One Decision to Shape a Lifetime By Eugene Hildebrandt It's a rare thing to be able to trace a lifetime of psychological and relational benefits to one gritty decision, but Rick Rekedal has pulled it off. In 'One Small Step' he tells the story of his father's determination to get free from the grip that alcohol abuse had on his life. Through the help of Alcoholics Anonymous Steve, (Rick's dad) found the strength he needed to say 'no' one day at a time. As he did that Steve reconciled with his estranged wife, his estranged children and the God he purported to serve. This is a quick but powerful read. It really is inspirational...to the point of bringing tears to my eyes. You won't be disappointed.

Davis I really enjoyed reading this concise and moving tribute written by a son for his father. He details his father's journey, starting as a self-absorbed alcoholic who abandon his family. The journey is one of redemption where Rick gets to see his father come home and become a man honored in his vocation, by his family, and by his community.

And that day when you saw a chance for healing and you took it - I was inspired by that. It was a risk but it ended up being a catalyst for healing from a death in the family after 25 years. Beautiful.

Knowing Joyce and loving her stories every day By Amazon Customer This book was written by a friend of mine, and I highly recommend it as an awesome read for anyone. I met Joyce a little more than a year ago,and I liked her immediately. I feel like the lucky one to be able to live in the same neighborhood (building) as she does. I get to listen to the stories, and more not included in the book just about every day. I never get tired of hearing them. Her adventures blow me away and are wonderfully entertaining. I am amazed at everything she accomplished in her life. She says there won't be a second one, so do yourself a favor and grab a copy. I feel sure you won't regret it.

I protagonisti colgono al volo l’occasione e lasciano la Terra, perché la Terra non è più la loro casa, non è più il posto dove possano essere felici insieme. I dogmi, le ristrettezze, le brutalità distruggono il senso dell’amore puro, quello vero che fa nascere fiori nel deserto. Ecco che allora il fiore nel deserto diventa un’anguria su Marte, simbolo della nuova vita, del primo marziano nel grembo di sua madre.Le storie sono come perle legate da un unico filo, piccoli stralci di vita che cominciano con un’apocalisse che non arriva, che lascia solo molte, troppe angurie in giro. Manber Kupfer ci fa vedere che cosa succederebbe se l’umanità pensasse di trovarsi difronte alla fine, come ci comporteremmo e quali sarebbero le nuove priorità, per poi ricadere nella quotidianità nel momento in cui ci si rende conto che la fine non è arrivata. E allora come si fa a riprendere la vita di tutti i giorni, se nella frenesia collettiva sono stati bruciati tutti i ponti? Si cerca un altro posto, si lascia la vecchia vita e se ne costruisce una nuova. Una vita nuova, punteggiata di angurie e di vecchie facce, che diventano nuove e che a loro volta si creano nuove vite, nuovi futuri, e alla fine si ritrovano proiettate su un altro pianeta, in un’altra colonia, con la prima nuova anguria.Di Manber Kupfer ho letto i primi due romanzi per ragazzi della serie P.A.W.S., bellissimi ed intensi. Questa volta scrive per un pubblico certamente più adulto, anche se alcune caratteristiche ritornano chiaramente. Per esempio i gatti, così importanti per l’autrice, sono importanti anche per i personaggi e per la storia, che comincia con la gatta dell’autrice che sveglia in malo modo la protagonista della prima storia, dando il la alla raccolta. Un applauso alla scrittrice, che è riuscita ancora una volta a scrivere storie interessanti, riconoscibili e fantastiche, e che alla fine ci lascia con una grande lezione: l’amore supera ogni difficoltà, l’amore quello vero non si lascia imbrigliare dalle convenzioni.

Make your own juices and smoothies By Denniger Bolton I'm slowly working my way through Vincent Noot, the author's 7 book series on Fat Loss, In this one Mr. Noot focuses on weight loss smoothies, juices, shakes and other drinks. I do drink a lot of juice and of course smoothies, but now I feel I can use thee formulas or recipes to create my own thus saving money and no having the worry of what's really in this bottle or juice I just bought. So far, I've tried the Healthy Carrot Pineapple Smoothie and the Pina Colada and going to try the Thai Mix Juice tomorrow which has coconut milk, ginger, carrots and apples.

This book is sad and funny and Sean isn't afraid to tell us the truth, even when the truth is the last thing we want to hear. I stayed up past my bedtime to read this all at once and even when I finally turned off the light, I couldn't stop thinking about it. I couldn't stop thinking about Sean and his stories and these little paragraphs and these words and these things and this life and this book. I love him, I love it.

Give it a little time, it really works when you get into the flow of it. I would tell you what I thought it was, but I'm not sure if that's a spoiler or not. Like, are these a series of short stories, or is it one story? Real or imagined? Memoir or fiction. Just keep reading. You'll enjoy it, and maybe not have the same conclusion I did, anyway.I hesitate to use the word "experimental," since that usually implies a more abstract text. It's really easy to understand, it's very clearly written. But yeah, it's nontradtional at least.

About the Author I was born at Townlands Hospital in Henley-on-Thames in 1958, went to school locally, and did my Nurse training at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading. In 1992 I completed my District Nurse Training at Bulmershe, part of Reading University. I have spent my career nursing adult patients, initially in hospital, and the remaining twenty three years in the community. I have been with the NHS all this time, and have a good insight to how it has grown and developed. For the last five years of nursing, I held a post as Community Matron in West Reading.

An enjoyable read that does not get bogged down By Myles Douglas-Withers (mylesdw@hotmail.com) I would be easy for a book with this title to get bogged down in politics and medical detail but this one avoids those pitfalls and is a most enjoyable read that moves along at a brisk pace. There is enough detail that I am sure anyone in the health profession would find it interesting but not so much that a layman like myself loses interest.

This book is an engrossing story of survival against terrible odds; told first from the recollections of others By bob fitz This book is an engrossing story of survival against terrible odds; told first from the recollections of others, then from the author’s own memories.It is full of pain and sorrow from the days and months of hiding from Nazi officials and functionaries; functionaries who were first merely cruel; then brutal and lethal in their implementation of the “final solution” to the “Jewish problem”.One is stuck by the near randomness of Nazi actions; the sheer chance and good luck that allows members of the family to escape and survive. The vaunted Teutonic efficiency of the Gestapo and other Nazi organizations is revealed as often disjointed, sloppy and loose. It is good that it sometimes was.Though a personal tale of the journey of one family to escape annihilation during WWII; the struggles of the family continue long after WWII ends.One cannot but be astonished at the persistence and fortitude of the family; and the decisions made by and for them as they seek a place and country of refuge; learning new languages, new customs and new ways of earning a living; with the ultimate goal of reaching the United States and establishing a new life.Many good people help this family to survive; from Jewish organizations to saintly nuns. A wide net of relatives, close and distant, were essential to the attainment of the family’s goals.In the end, after closing the book, comes the unsettling thought that the world is still filled with hatred and evil; and that the Holocaust, or something akin to it, could indeed happen again.I hope that I am wrong

Henry A gripping story of a resourceful Jewish couple and their attempts to flee Germany at the onset of World War II. Walter and Margot Isaacson, with their two small children, flee westward into Belgium and later into France, always in fear that they will be found by the Gestapo. Their trials and tribulations, as well as their post war emigration to Bolivia, and subsequently to the United States is must reading for anyone who appreciates the triumph of the human spirit and the human will to live. This would be a five star review if their story ended in 1960. Instead, the book continues with the lives of the next generation, which, thanks to the success of their parents, is much like any average American family, and therefore lacks the drama of what the reader has experienced to that point. Tighter editing might have eliminated this problem, but it in no way detracts from the overall reading experience. Strongly recommended.

In this novel length work of non-fiction we are privileged to become acquainted with Ms. Hume and her interesting and misadventure filled young life.I will mention at the outset that, as other reviewers have noted, English is a non-native tongue to the author. Despite this fact the writing in this story is seamless, and Ms. Hume's use of the language excellent. As expected with this type of autobiographical work, dialog is more internal than external and the tale is written from the author's first-person point of view.The story opens with a scene from the present day, with our heroine eagerly anticipating her incipient wedding to the love of her life, John. As she dwells on this upcoming happy event she begins to muse upon the strange series of events that brought her, a young girl born in the Ukraine just prior to the break-up of the Soviet Union, to her current circumstances on a exotic animal ranch in South Africa. The reader senses immediately that this will be an intriguing tale and we are certainly not disappointed.We are transported back with Albina to her childhood village, and as the circumstances of her early life unfold we come to understand just how challenging that life was. Albina and her family are in some sense caught up in a great societal transition as their world and society are buffeted by the forces of political turmoil. Thru all of the challenges Albina keeps a clear eye on her dream and displays both tenacity and at times great courage in pursuing it.I gave this autobiography a rating of four stars. The writing was excellent and the telling of the story at times superb. Where this effort lost points was in the lack of proper editing, there was just too much detail at times to to the point of tedium, and the characters, while interesting, largely remain one-dimensional and undeveloped from their initial sketch. Overall I enjoyed this read and I would highly recommend it!

She was born in an Ukranian village initially called Novogrigorovka, later renamed Volchanovka. Volchanovka is a small country town, where the people are honest and hard-working, but not necessarily aware of the “ways of the world” outside their village.The story begins when Albina is a young, elementary-school-aged girl and reveals how she found that she has a speech defect involving the letter “R”. As the story moves along, Ms. Hume blames her misfortunes on the speech impediment, her lack of exposure to urban living, her belief in the fairy-tale love she read about in books, and the fairy-tale, handsome princes described in the same books.I had a difficult time, based upon her recurring behavior, continually giving her passes because of her lack of exposure and speech impediment. These are certainly factors that influence lives, to a degree. Some of her experiences were horrible, shocking, and sad. But at a certain point one has to learn from previous mistakes.I don’t want spoil the story for anyone who might read it, so I’ll just say Albina encountered con men and women, corrupt policemen and officials, white slavery, sexual predators, crooked cops, horrible bosses, and cruel boyfriends. Some of her hard times were because she was duped and others were because she either invited or accepted them into her life. Each time she was extricated from a situation, she immediately jumped, head-over-heels, into the next one. She met several interesting men and did some interesting things for and with them. Albina constantly moved into and out of their homes and into and out of the homes of family and friends. I don’t know if the cover of her book is her picture, but I felt she must be extremely pretty and sexy for all the men to continually - at least fleetingly - consider her wife material, in the face of what some would deem her promiscuous behavior and loose ethics. If the cover photo on the book cover is Albina, she is very pretty. She finally maneuvered herself into the situation in which she now resides. This, too, is the result of another “luck-of-the–draw, maybe-things-will-work-out-this-time”, self-inflicted circumstance, where she, again, counted on her youth, good looks, luck and “destiny” rather than sound decisions and tried and true methods of finding a mate and building a life. She rolled the dice this time and won. Good for her. She is now an animal advocate in Africa and works with her husband to preserve endangered species.Miss Fortune is well written. Albina’s story is fascinating. I sympathized with her in several of her unfortunate situations and pulled for her to come out victorious over them, but not so much in others. I recommend this book to everyone who likes biography, pathos, and generally good writing.I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

A wonderful example of writing a memorable, memoir. This is a book that I really never wanted to put down. It left a truly lasting impression on me. I in reality, don’t read many memoirs. So when I got the chance to review this one, it was a new experience. I have read memoirs, but the majority of my reading is fiction and so this was a different style. I have to say I really loved this book. The author Albina Hume did a fantastic job in writing her story, about her life and the struggle, hardships she has endured. She was born in the Ukraine, grew up and married a South African property developer and Rhino Breeder. This book details her life and childhood and the differences she faced. One of the sentences that describe the book showcases just what the story is all about: “Who would think that my inability to pronounce the letter R, would turn my life upside down and lead me from Ukraine to South Africa.”A very touching and moving story that weaves her childhood and adulthood into a thought provoking story that you find yourself turning page after page to finish. I could not help but want to know what happened next in her life. From the horrors of jail, bad relationships, and the destruction of dreams, all come off the page as you read her plight. What I find amazing about this book is the beauty and wonderment of what Albina, and her husband do. They breed and protect African Rhino’s. Wonderfully open personal account By Christina Ortega Whether you want to personally compare your life's experience or just know of someone else's accounts, this memoir has a glimpse of openness for all. Mrs. McGrue has a well oriented description of personal truth that will provide strength to the needing or guidance for the skeptical. I would highly recommend this book for any who have had or are having marital, relationship or aggressive friend issues. The retrospect personally may get you in the right direction or even become a hand up in help forany who are willing to open up the pages to see one persons dash from the harnesses of control. Read and applauded by us as husband and wife with a desire to let all know it was a beautiful read.

An amazing message is found in the pages of this true life story. Rebecca opens her heart and soul to share what some try so hard to hide, a look at what can destroy you in so many ways. Inspirational and extremely powerful By maria martinez This book offers the reader an opportunity to view a troubled relationship from the inside out. Subtle biases influence our judgement everyday, and the notion that women do not need to be treated with respect or equality has been passed from one generation to the next, affecting the beliefs of men and women alike. This book speaks volumes about how this bias affected the author's judgement in allowing such treatment to continue, and how her partner failed to recognize his own faults. So many women have similar stories and are unsure about how they can change their lives, but this story proves you can find strength within. Many thanks to the author for this honest and open account of her life and how she made a conscious effort to change it.
