Although I don't share the same sexual orientation as the author, I can relate to many aspects of this book as it is ultimately about a journey of self discovery, a journey that is still ongoing, a journey we all experience. Brandon expresses his views with a gifted voice that many authors find it difficult to express. This book is littered with humor that makes the poignant moments relateable and touching. His use of metaphors is excellent and lets the reader easily visualize his situations and settings in high school. As a reader, Brandon enables me easily get to know his characters. The book does have misspellings throughout that could catch the reader off guard, but not more than other books. Although this book will help many young people in the LGBT community that feels like they don't fit in, I recommend this book to all those whoever felt different in any capacity. I like to consider this the first of many books from the author. I await to read about the next stages of his life. In the meantime, this book has made me look back in my life and reflect the experiences I have gone through.

The comparisons to David Sedaris and Augusten Burroughs are inevitable (he's funny and dark and gay) but his voice is unique and in this, his first published collection, he captures perfectly the angst, hilarity and bizarre beauty of the modern suburban high school and youth culture. Poignant, irreverent and laugh-out-loud funny in more than one chapter, "Please Fall In Love With Me" is a fantastic debut from a writer I suspect we will be seeing more great things from in the years ahead.

I could not put this book down and at the same did not want to finish it!The writing style of Holiday Shapero is like no other style I have ever read. Her storytelling pulls you in and you become entwined with her courageous struggle and incredible endurance. I am anxiously awaiting book two and in the meantime reading book one again. It is that good!Read this book, you will be glad you did.

An amazing story of an inspirational woman, beginning from when she was a small girl throughout her teen years. As she struggles through the beginning of her not-so-ordinary life, whether it be with her lovers, friends, or family, she somehow finds some sort of good in it all. While her life was dramatically different from my own, I felt a connection to her throughout the entirety of the book. I found myself wanting to cry, but also laughing (she has a great sense of humor). I find myself constantly referring this book to my friends, in hopes that they can learn to find some peace in whatever situation that they are in. With trauma, romance, betrayal, love and resolution, I can't wait for book two!

The cover made me curious about the story and so I downloaded the Kindle version and read it on a trip to South America. I loved the book. The notion that this is an autobiography, not a novel is still a wonder to me. How this young woman survived and kept going in the face of danger (some of it self inflicted) is beyond my experience. In the end, I was looking for the next chapter. It is rough and compelling.

Small Town Cops, by Donald Gill

About the Author Donald Gill is a retired Puyallup Police Sergeant and a former member of the Special Investigations Unit. He started his career as a Military Police for the US Army in 1975, was honorably discharged in 1978 as a Military Police Investigator, was hired as a Police Officer for the Sumner Police Department in 1979, and moved to the Puyallup Police in 1989. He retired in May 31, 2012. Don’s significant achievements include: the creation of the department’s fitness program; creation of Wheelbeat, bicycle patrol cops; numerous championships in Police and Fire Olympics in swimming and bicycle road racing events; and a Chief’s award for bulldog operation, a chop shop; among others. He is also the 7th certified IPMBA (International Police on Mountain Bike Association) nationally, and a proud veteran of 38 triathlons including two Ironman events. Most of the more adventurous and challenging roles that Don performed were from his being a detective for TNET (Tahoma Narcotic Enforcement Team), a task force that worked dope from Dade County Florida to LA California. He also appeared live on an episode of Unusual Suspects titled “No Mercy”. Don is happily married for 44 years to his wife, Vicky. They have two grown kids and three great grand children. There are two cops in his family, one fire marshal, and more cops in the making.

When I first read the first few chapters for editing, I knew it was going to be a success. As a writer myself, I know one when I read one's work. Donald Gill has the gift of writing like a storyteller. He doesn't lead you in rabbit trails but goes direct to the point. However, he knows how to keep the reader in suspense just by his style of telling his story. Only a natural-born writer can do something like this. Don is one of the most real people I have met. What you see is what you get. This is how he writes as well: real and no pretensions. He has no hidden agenda. All he wants is to share his experiences, which is what makes him the kind of writer who recognizes that he is simply a vessel. It's gritty and to the point and also shares the mostly unknown compassion that a real officer feels in day to day events. Yea it's editing could use a little more work (not the author's fault). But this book is true and speaks what 99% of officers feel every day. It cuts through the media BS and tells the true story of policing.

By Montserrat Thousands of small towns around the nation have cops. For the most part we hear about them only when something extraordinary happens, good or bad, that catches media attention. On television cops are usually played either for laughs, as with Barney Fife on The Andy Griffith Show, or with hard core intensity, as on Hill Street Blues. Donald Gill brushes the two stereotypes aside and takes the reader along with him on a variety of first party adventures, some deadly serious, others absurdly amusing, and still others that reveal the humanity each of would like to think resides within. From a deadly serious SWAT mission with an ironic twist to a drug mission worthy of Cheech and Chong, we are part of the adventure. Don't for a moment think former Officer Gill is not a highly skilled professional, for that he most certainly is. But his style of storytelling, coupled with his engaging self deprecating humor, compels the reader to set aside any predispositions he or she might have as to law enforcement and to settle in to enjoy every moment of a ride along on patrol with small town cop Donald Gill.

Murray Having, like the author, grown up in Faribault County in southern Minnesota and graduated from Blue Earth High School, and remembering the widow Susan Eisele doggedly using a big and boxy camera to take photos for the local newspaper, I had a personal interest in the biography of the parents of the author, Albert A. Eisele (who went on to be press secretary for Vice President Walter Mondale, who also grew up in Faribault County and to write a dual biography, Almost to the Presidency, about two other Minnesota senators, Eugene McCarthy and Hubert Humphrey). I did not know that the author's father, Albert E. Eisele, had cranked out short stories, many of which were published in Catholic magazines. Both Susan and Albert E. wrote weekly columns for southern Minnesota (and northern Iowa) newspapers, as well as one on which they collaborated ("Countryside") which Susan continued through her lengthy widowhood.There is, alas, exceedingly little of memories from Albert A. in the book. Almost everything in it derives from manuscripts and clippings from newspapers and magazines by or about his parents. Their careers as writers for rural newspapers (syndicated columns) and in the case of Albert E. as a contributor of close-to-the-earth stories published in American Catholic periodicals while farming and raising children (three boys of whom Albert A. was the youngest survived childhood). Susan wrote fast, her husband slowly. Alas there is not the slightest indication of how Albert A. or his older brothers felt about the time their parents’ writing took — or how they felt about their parents’ minor fame in rural northern Iowa and southern Minnesota and in national Catholic periodicals, along with something of a fifteen minutes of national celebrity Susan had, being named the country’s outstanding rural journalist for 1936 and invited to New York City and D.C. with the newly born Albert A.Six previously published stories by Albert E. Eisele are appended to the text and show a Chekhovian focus on situations of rural folk. Regretably, only two of Susan's columns are included, in effect twice (images of the original publications and the text), none of the five nominated for the award she won as best rural journalist of 1936.

By Lourdes This book is wonderful because the stories are well narrated and it is helpful in building up vocabulary. Obviously, you need to have a certain level in comprehension in reading and understanding Italian. This book is not for beginners, unless you want to keep your Italian-English dictionary by your side and look for the meaning of words every so minutes.

By Jen I picked this book up because a client of mine (I work in the health and fitness field) was just diagnosed with this, and I needed to learn more about it. She had been gaining weight (which was the reason she came to me) but had also been having some muscle weakness (amongst some other symptoms) and didn’t know why. The doctor diagnosed her with Hashimoto’s. Obviously, I need to know about it in order to work with her and make sure the things I do with her are not contraindicated for this disease.This book really opened my eyes! I learned not only what Hashimoto’s was all about, but that it is also confused with other conditions (which is helpful to know). The book did a great job talking about the symptoms of this disease, as well as the (similar) symptoms that occur with conditions that are commonly confused with Hashimoto’s. It also does a good job at explaining the outcomes of the disease, and that a lot of holistic practitioners are pretty well-versed to treat this disease (which might be something I could suggest to my client).The most helpful thing to read, to me, at least, was the section on eating right and losing weight. I know that my client has struggled with this for a while now, and let’s face it: when you want to lose weight and nothing’s happening, it’s really frustrating. I now know that I should not only be working with her on exercises, but also talking with her about her eating habits, and helping her with that. Focusing on the foods with the vitamins in it that she needs the most. A very helpful and eye-opening book for anyone trying to figure this disease out, either for themselves, or to help someone they know!

David If you get diagnosed with Hashimoto's, or if you know someone who does, or if you feel like you are experiencing its symptoms and you want to learn more about it, I would suggest for you to read this book. It will give you helpful information about its symptoms and causes, as well as, the treatments for it. (But of course before doing the treatments, it always best to consult a doctor.) What I liked about this book is that, it is written in a very encouraging and positive manner, saying that there are ways for you to overcome this disease and even if you have it, you should not allow it to stop you from living your life. Get inspired in beating Hashimoto’s thyroiditis by reading this book.

The book is full of awareness about the Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, from introduction, down to causes and symptoms as well as the treatments. Guess I have to discipline myself in eating right and losing weight and change my lifestyle for the betterment of my body. Thanks to this book. Its not all about giving information about the certain sickness, but its also an eye opener for us in living our life to the fullest.

DEADLY PSYCHIATRY AND ORGANISED DENIAL explains in evidence-based detail why the way we currently use psychiatric drugs does far more harm than good. Professor, Doctor of Medical Science, Peter C. Gøtzsche documents that psychiatric drugs kill more than half a million people every year among those aged 65 and above in the United States and Europe. This makes psychiatric drugs the third leading cause of death, after heart disease and cancer. Gøtzsche explains that we could reduce our current usage of psychotropic drugs by 98% and at the same time improve patients' mental and physical health and survival. It can be difficult, however, to come off the drugs, as many people become dependent on them. As the withdrawal symptoms can be severe, long-lasting and even dangerous, slow tapering is usually necessary. In his book, Gøtzsche debunks the many myths that leading psychiatrists - very often on drug industry payroll - have created and nurtured over decades in order to conceal the fact that biological psychiatry has generally been a failure. Biological psychiatry sees drugs as the "solution" for virtually all problems, in marked contrast to the patients' views. Most patients don't respond to the drugs they receive but, unfortunately, the psychiatrists' frustrations over the lack of progress often lead to more diagnoses, more drugs and higher doses, harming the patients further.
