BONE CAMERA in German, but so much more than a translation By claubart@aol.com It seems to have taken Guillemin more than a year to complete this translation of his novel BONE CAMERA (2014), but it's perfectly obvious what took him so long: It's not a translation, but something of a new book, with the action relocated from California to Bavaria, and the ex-boyfriend telling Natalie's story rather than the daughter. While I loved Nina's coming-of-age story told from the first-person perspective in BONE CAMERA, it's intriguing to get more insights into the motives of Nick, the strange ex-boyfriend of Natalie and ex-step-dad of Nina. You also get more from Natalie, the protagonist photographer as she keeps cutting in like with comments from, yes, beyond the grave. So there is a dark, almost morbid side too. The whole book is more complex than BONE CAMERA, and 100 pages longer, but if you speak German it's a treat to read after BONE CAMERA because it's almost like a movie remake.
