In the vein of PostSecret comes this emotionally addictive and thrilling look at people’s deepest thoughts—some tragic, some funny, some adventurous—told anonymously and in their own handwriting.

The world is not made up of atoms; it is composed of tiny stories. And everyone has a story.

In 2009 in an Ann Arbor coffeehouse, Brandon Doman began asking passersby to share a story with him. Providing paper, pens, and clipboards, his only criteria was that the story had to be true. Doman then displayed selected stories on his website strangersproject.com. Astonishing in their honesty, intimate, powerful, sometimes chilling, and thoroughly addictive, the stories became an Internet hit. Over the past five years, Doman’s personal passion project—10,000 stories strong and growing—has continued to engage strangers of all ages and backgrounds and has transformed into a powerful movement of readers and storytellers who use the project’s anonymity as a gateway to reflect, rejoice, heal, and connect through words.

Now, Doman has carefully chosen 200 stories that capture the essence of The Strangers Project. Introduced by Doman, the stories convey the range of human experience, from the humorous to the heartbreaking to the profound, and are arranged to mirror the common encounters that happen between strangers every day.

A celebration of human curiosity and our need for connection, What’s Your Story? opens us to new possibilities and provides an intimate glimpse into the lives of others with one simple question: “What’s your story?”

From the Back Cover

Everyone has a story to share. What's yours?

In 2009, Brandon Doman, who has always been curious about the people with whom we share our world, sat at a local coffeehouse and decided to ask passersby a simple question: "What's your story?"

Providing only paper and pens, Doman created an exploratory space that instantly intrigued people to share their stories anonymously. Now, more than 10,000 stories later, the Strangers Project has become a momentous movement, engaging strangers of all ages and backgrounds to reflect, rejoice, heal, and connect through words.

Published here for the first time, What's Your Story? showcases a selection of two hundred stories from the Strangers Project. Equal parts heartbreaking and humorous, this moving compendium lays bare our universal truths, desires, and sufferings, and illustrates the emotional power of storytelling and our shared humanity. To complete this beautiful collage of stories, a blank page is included at the end for readers to add their own personal story.

With more than fifty color photographs and illustrations

According to reporter Meyer Berger, ‘Each man reads his own meaning into New York.’ This most kinetic of cities contains myriad meanings and shifting identities; but how can anyone begin to construct their own narrative in a place as loud, bright and busy as ‘the city that never sleeps’? Elizabeth Bradley’s concise and witty guidebook is a sane place to start.New York mixes history with high and low culture to make a Manhattan cocktail both enjoyable and practical, for the armchair traveller and true tourist alike. It traces the development of the city from a Dutch trading post to one of the world capitals of business, media and the arts, introducing readers to the city’s most important – and colourful – dramatis personae along the way. A history of the five boroughs is followed by a series of ruminations on New York today – the city’s natural landmarks, unnatural gin joints, immigrant enclaves and even its noises – providing thoughtful, eclectic lists of where to eat, drink and shop, and what to see, hear and do.A lively and engaging account from a native New Yorker, featuring illustrations both historical and contemporary, New York takes a broad-ranging approach to the elusive, shape-shifting city that will leave readers with a feeling of ownership and insight into the Big Apple both past and present, and perhaps their own nickname for it as well.

Review “Great things come in small packages: this concise history of the Empire City is a smart and lively read, as fast-paced and colorful as Gotham itself. Bradley is a thoughtful and witty tour guide, and her book makes an excellent travel companion for tourists and natives alike.” (Susan Henshaw Jones, Ronay Menschel Director, Museum of the City of New York)“Bradley’s concise and compelling history gracefully traces the city’s rise from Dutch trading center (enriched by Algonquin and slave labor) to world capital. Anyone who likes, loves, or tolerates New York will adore this fine book.” (Paul LeClerc, President Emeritus, New York Public Library)“Newcomers will love Bradley’s tips on finding true ethnic enclaves and the best resting (or trysting) spots in the city’s museums, while locals will appreciate a remarkably insightful analysis of the changes in the city’s collective psyche in the wake of 9/11. This brisk, illuminating, and highly entertaining book belongs on the bookshelf of every New York City admirer—and isn’t that simply everyone?” (Sherill Tippins, author of Inside the Dream Palace: The Life and Times of New York’s Legendary Chelsea Hotel.)

About the Author Elizabeth L. Bradley is a historian who has written widely on the literature and history of New York. She lives in Brooklyn.

By Sarah Funke Butler The perfect gift for anyone moving to NYC, or who has lived here all his or her life and wants to stroll down memory lane or keep up with the latest and greatest - which might also be the smallest and most off-beat! The writing is simultaneously sharp and charming, the picks include unavoidable standards and also the off-the-beaten-path-but-not-obnoxiously-so, even the organization is unusually helpful. Bradley has managed to write a guide book that can be used as a guide book or just dipped into at bedtime (which is how I have been enjoying it.) Oh, and it's funny, to boot!

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Best New [New York City] Guide In A Long Time By Traveler This is a beautiful book, reading like a story but actually a breezy, spot-on guide to New York City. It's perfect for a visitor who wants insider tips and quick histories but even better for the New Yorker who wants to rediscover his home town.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. For Newcomers and Natives! By Erin Moore This is the perfect gift for anyone who loves NYC already, or longs to find out its secrets. Bradley is opinionated in just the right ways and gives even native New Yorkers the thrill of discovery. I especially love her witty and authentic voice--she's like the friend you wish you had to show you around the city.

In the fair land of Nova Scotia, a maritime province, there is a ridge called North Mountain, overlooking the Bay of Fundy on one side and the fertile Annapolis valley on the other. On the northern slope of the range grows the hardy spruce-tree, well adapted for ship-timbers, of which many vessels of all classes have been built. The people of this coast, hardy, robust, and strong, are disposed to compete in the world's commerce, and it is nothing against the master mariner if the birthplace mentioned on his certificate be Nova Scotia. I was born in a cold spot, on coldest North Mountain, on a cold February 20, though I am a citizen of the United States—a naturalized Yankee, if it may be said that Nova Scotians are not Yankees in the truest sense of the word. On both sides my family were sailors; and if any Slocum should be found not seafaring, he will show at least an inclination to whittle models of boats and contemplate voyages. My father was the sort of man who, if wrecked on a desolate island, would find his way home, if he had a jack-knife and could find a tree. He was a good judge of a boat, but the old clay farm which some calamity made his was an anchor to him. He was not afraid of a capful of wind, and he never took a back seat at a camp-meeting or a good, old-fashioned revival.

Review ''There is so much to this book that it is not surprising that it is has been continually in print since 1889 . . . this book has literary merit, thoughtful and beautifully written and packed with incident.'' --Nautical Magazine''An inspiration to many would-be adventurers.'' --Lloyd's List''[A] literate and absorbing yarn . . . A convincing tale of the intelligence, skill, and fortitude that drove a master navigator.'' --New York Times ''Surely one of the all-time classic sailing narratives, this is more than just an account of a fascinating and often arduous journey, it has also given rise to a mythology all its own.'' --Classic Boat ''Sailing Alone around the World could have been written yesterday. It flows free and easy and is filled with amusing anecdotes . . . Any sailor who loves the sea will be brought up short from time to time by the quiet eloquence of Slocum's writing.'' --Small Boat Journal''This audio presentation sparkles with the author's wit and the reader's calm, light English accent . . . Mayes' voice is perfect for a man in his sixties, spinning the adventures of his sailing around the world.'' --Kliatt ''No better voice than that of Bernard Mayes could have been picked for this voyage filled with adventures ranging from the total loneliness of the solo voyage to the tense fear of attack by Tierra del Fuego pirates . . . Bernard makes [the adventures] as exciting as they must have been to Slocum; his voice is the voice of a sailing gentleman.'' --AudioFile

Joshua Slocums story is very entertaining to read. He writes about the practical and technical challenges of long distance sailing in the 19th century and about his encounters with the peoples and tribes on his route. The writing style is short and factual, but that almost makes the impression even stronger given that more often than not Joshua Slocum had to face death and only escaped with the narrowest of margins. They don't make'em like that any more... I highly recommend this book. it's a great read!

By Jim Unless you're bringing this book on your own around the world race, and are going to great pains to reduce weight and size of everything, like cutting your toothbrush in half, I suggest you not get this small edition. The book is identical to the 'normal' size book except shrunk. Tiny print, very thin paper etc. Turns out it's the 'travel edition'. Amazon doesnt tell you this. I found out the hard way. Despite the eyestrain and headaches I still couldn't put the book down. A great read.

Unlike today's solo around the world sailors Slocum was not a yachtsman, but had been variously skipper and owner-skipper of large sailing trading ships that plied the oceans of the world. His voyages included many across the Atlantic Ocean and several to the Pacific, including trading ventures to China, Japan and the Pacific Islands. Slocum was also different to modern day around the world sailors in that he made his around the world voyage near the end of his sailing career, at the age of fifty five. Slocum was declared dead on 14 November 1909 at the age of 65. This was the date he set sail on his final voyage. His course was into an Atlantic gale, and neither he nor his boat Spray was seen or heard of later.Slocum's father was a farmer in the maritime province of Nova Scotia which was one of the leading sailing and ship-building centres of the world in the latter part of the nineteenth century. Slocum was one of eleven children, was born on the Bay of Fundy, spent only two years in school and gained all his sailing and boat building skills on the job. When he was twenty-five Slocum was offered command of an American coasting schooner. His next command took him the to Australia where he met and married Virginia Walker of Strawberry Hill, Sydney. Later, Slocum would spend considerable time cruising the coast of Australia from Tasmania to the Torres Strait during his around the world voyage. As the nineteenth century drew to a close steam ships began to eat into the fishing and coastal and international trading business previously the sole dominion of sailing ships. In 1887 Slocum's ship the Aquidneck was stranded on a sand bar off the coast of Brazil and was raked by heavy seas for three days which wrecked the ship. Slocum managed to save his ship-building tools and some material from the wreck. In eighteen months, using timber felled by him and sails sewn by his (second) wife Hettie, Slocum built a 35-foot sailing canoe which he named the Liberdade, as the boat was launched on the day Brazilian slaves were freed. He sailed the Liberdade 5,500 miles in fifty-three days back to Washington DC.Slocum's boat the Spray, which he used for his around the world voyage had previously been an oysterman on Chesapeake Bay, and was completely rebuilt by Slocum. Although in keeping with tradition the name of the boat was preserved, the boat was deliberately rebuilt with different characteristics by Slocum. For example, he increased the freeboard particularly at the bow and stern in preparation for his ocean-going venture. The Spray was thirty-six feet nine inches long, had a beam of fourteen feet and a draft of four feet two inches, and weighed nine tons. She had a full-length wooden keel which was about one foot deep at the bow and about three feet deep at the stern. Slocum tells of the Spray's ability to sail a constant course with the wheel lashed when about two points off the wind for days on end.During his around the world voyage he was introduced to many dignitaries in many countries. In South Africa Slocum made the mistake of telling the President of the Transvaal Paul Kruger that he was sailing "around" the world. Kruger corrected him saying that he meant sailing "on" the world, because Kruger believed the world was flat. The book is fascinating to read and has appeal for anyone interested in the history of sailing and of life at the turn on the nineteenth century.

THEY ARE DIFFERENT!!!I just received my hardback copy of Champfleury's Les Chats. Most important to note that the hardback appears to be a different publication than the paperback. Different publishers, different # pages and, most notably, the paperback description reads like an extensive disclaimer about the quality of scanning or some sort of copying. The hardback, in contrast, is a complete version and is beautifully printed and formatted. I adore this tiny gem of a book. Not only is the text fascinating (in French), but the illustrations are beautiful. I had wanted this book for years, but the original publications are very rare and cost thousands of dollars. I am so thrilled that this modern edition has become available. I highly recommend this book. Publisher is Editions du chêne, 2009.

While the baby boomer generation gets a lot more press (not to mention prestige) these days, author Peter F. Young isn’t ready to let war babies–those born between 1938 and 1946—fade into the night without a turn in the spotlight.

Like others in his generation, Young came of age during the early years of rock ‘n’ roll—and promptly fell in love with the so-called “devil’s music.” Like scores of other kids in small towns across America, Young not only worshipped rock stars, he dreamed of becoming one himself. But, unlike most of those other kids, he almost made it.

In this charming, irreverent, and hilarious memoir, Young recalls his boyhood and teenage years in the small towns of rural Vermont and Northern New York State, home of the almost-famous Mike & the Ravens. Despite their shoddy equipment and decidedly un-rock ‘n’ roll upbringings, Young and his band mates managed to get signed by a record company, become regionally famous, pull a ton of stunts—including causing a rock album to be played over a church’s robust belfry speaker system at 2:00 a.m. and land in jail like real rock stars—and still grow up to become productive, contributing members of society.

ByAmazon Customer I lovedthis book as it reflects a simpler timeaccompanyingphotos takes you on a stroll down memory lane with Mr. Young. You can visitYouTube and find the music of Mike and the Ravens. The escapades of Peter andhis friends will have you laughing, shaking your head in wonderment, and yourhair will stand on end at their daring. I loved this book as it reflects asimpler time but shows that through the ages kids are the same. By AmazonCustomer One ofthe most enjoyable books read everEventhough I am several years younger than the author, I knew who he was when I wasa child and knew some of his cohorts personally. I had to buy the book just tosee what these guys had been up to as kids. Peter didn't let me down. Theantics and trials of these fellows were heartwarming, funny and even remindedme of a few things I might have done as a teenager!! The book was my reading atthe beach, interrupting those I normally would be reading. Nice job. Wished Ihad had a chance to see Mike & the Ravens perform. By Amazon customer

It may not achieve national or international prominence but if one were born in the 40's or 50's in or near Northfield, Vermont (and Stowe, Vt or Plattsburg, NY) it should be a must read! And if you are a teenager today and are unsure of what direction you will follow in the future, there are many good life lessons here. Fun, fast reading!

By Stacy Lundberg I have to admit that when I was looking at this book and I read the description I thought it wasn't going to be very interesting. I expected to be somewhat bored and wishing I had picked something else to read. But I was definitely wrong. As soon as I started reading this book I could tell that Mr. Young's writing style was going to pull me into his world. Instead of a boring, plain story, what I got was an interesting, comical and amazing tale that I had a hard time walking away from when I had other things to do. I would call this book unique for sure, and it was nice to get away from my usual type of story. I was thrilled with Flatlanders by Peter Young and I give this book a solid five stars.

Adventures of the man who invented the modern canoe By Charles Hall This is a highly readable account of the author's solo voyage across the English Channel to France and up the Seine. Although he sails in a small sailboat here, MacGregor invented the modern canoe, and spent his life promoting the canoe and other outdoor sports. This is a fun book, especially for small boat sailors

Inadequacies By Hanma This book had two main problems.Firstly, the original page numbers were repeated in the text in three different formats: a straight number, a phrase such as 'page 23', and both of these enclosed in brackets. The lack of cosistency I found very distracting.Secondly, none of the original illustrations were included. The text refers to various illustrations to explain the author's descriptions but none of them have appeared in this electronic version. You had to follow the description of the boat layout and its style very closely and still had little idea as to what the boat looked like.

By Theseus ...or even publicity stunt. This entry in the Mariners Library (#24) is notable because MacGregor made his 1867 voyage from London to Paris in order to promote his canoe design. MacGregor was a great 19th century marketer, seeking royal patronage for his 21 foot yawl which was one of the great forerunners of the modern canoe.First Thus, baby blue cloth over boards with navy details in dustjacket; 214 pp with a few illustrations.

I enjoyed reading about his auditions and the plays he was in. He got to see some amazing shows on Broadway, including Julie Andrews! And he went to the Tony Awards, which I'm so jealous of.Overall, I enjoyed reading John's experiences. The book is a collection of journal entries, which makes it interesting. Good read!

A FUN ROMP THROUGH NYC'S THEATER WORLD By Sunny Kreis Collins MY THIRTY YEARS IN NEW YORK CITY is a lighthearted, fun-filled romp through all NYC has to offer and the theater world in particular by the latter's number one fan. Author Strangi loves the art of theater the way all actors would wish from all of us. He tells of his successes and lows with charming candor. Don't miss this entertaining tome!

For that matter, anyone who would like to know New York so that he or she can love it like the author will enjoy this book. This is a valentine, plain and simple, to New York, the theatre, those who make the theatre special and persons who dream and see their dreams come true.John Strangi's knowledge of New York and theatre is astounding. His clever and self-deprecating wit shine through in each chapter and he takes you along on the journey in a delightful and slyly seductive manner. It was hard to put this book down once you picked it up and yet it was easy to put down and then resume because the writing and each chapter is a story in itself.I especially enjoyed the references and very human depictions of various celebrities. The author was never pretentious in his narrations and always realistic when discussing the celebrities that he crossed paths with throughout his 30 year adventure.Do yourself a favor and join him by sharing in the fun and frolic of this fun book.

While the glossary at the back was most helpful, this book only provided the first 9 chapters of an exhaustive work. The "riassunto" for the remainder of the book (more than 600 pages) encompassed a couple of paragraphs...Don't bother, the type style is difficult to read for "older eyes" also.

Kindle edition poorly proofed By Louisa Filomarino Cauvin The Kindle edition was obviously scanned from a printed version and then OCR was performed. As OCR isn't perfect, a proofreader must check for errors and correct them. This version has innumerable uncorrected errors.

It is one of the great masterpieces of Italian literature and, along with Dante's work, is one of the foundations of the modern Italian language. Not only is it a masterpiece of style and beauty, but a great teacher of the history of Italy. Anyone interested in Italy should read this book, if only in translation.

William and Mathilda were German immigrants who moved to the small rural community of Swan River Township, a rural farming community outside of Little Falls, Minnesota. The area was flooded with immigrants; mostly German and Polish families who spoke little English. There was a great deal of jealousy from local farmers at how prosperous the immigrants were becoming as farmers, and prejudice ran deep… …even if unspoken in this small rural community. In early August 1908—according to Mathilda Gollnik—two burglars entered their residence at night, and after arguing with her husband, struck him in the head causing a wound that would prove to be fatal. After surviving for three days, William Gollnik died without ever regaining consciousness. It was later determined he was probably struck with a heavy blunt instrument, probably a hatchet. The murder weapon was never recovered. After the attack on her husband, Mathilda ran to a neighbor’s house for help. They summoned the local sheriff and a local doctor who arrived at the scene. The local doctor being unable to communicate well with Mathilda, as she spoke little English, assumed she had committed the crime. The local sheriff who had virtually no law enforcement training and had two years earlier been a local farmer conducted virtually no substantive investigation, not taking so much as a single note, and also assumed Mathilda had killed her husband. Two years after the murder he returned to farming. Mathilda was ultimately arrested for the murder of her husband, was tried, and convicted. There was virtually no evidence presented at trial to show she had committed the crime, and her attorneys presented a defense so inept, they didn’t call a single witness in her behalf. The only evidence presented by the prosecution was that it was well known that their marriage was an unhappy one and Mathilda had previously attempted to obtain a divorce which was never finalized as they resolved their differences and continued living as man and wife. The trial lasted about four days, and the jury consisting of local farmers, deliberated only hours before returning a guilty verdict. The prosecuting attorney within three hours of the verdict petitioned the court to impose an immediate sentence, which was granted, and Mathilda was sentenced to life imprisonment, and immediately transported to prison. After her conviction, it was literally a feeding frenzy to acquire her property and possessions, by neighbors, attorneys, other family members, and local farmers. But what happened in the ensuing years was even more unthinkable.

Having grown up in that area of MN and now only living an hour away, I found the story quite fascinating - and very unjust, indeed. Cool to see so many familiar names and read about familiar areas of those counties. My mom is now thoroughly enjoying reading the book as she grew up in Bowlus, MN and still lives in that area, so she is extremely familiar with the names and all of the areas. Thank you for writing this book, Elizabeth Brown!!

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Unjust: Convictions of Innocence, Mathilde's Story does not disappoint. Thank you for another great read! By Carriealavezos I have been following you since reading your first book, Tales of our Youth: Generation of Love and Hope, in hopes that you would publish a sequel one day. So, although Unjust: Convictions of Innocence, Mathilde's Story was not the book I was initially hoping for, I was ecstatic to discover you had publish another book for me to read, and it did not disappoint. Unjust: Convictions of Innocence, Mathilde's Story kept me up late into the wee hours of the morning enthralled with who this woman was and what she endured. As I read through the court transcripts and personalities and characters were revealed, I struggled with comprehending the true nature of greed and evil, as well as the destruction of entitlement; like Mathilde, I tend to believe in the power and strength of goodness. I'm so thankful to be alive in a day when women have rights and an era that encourages us to use our own voices and advocate for ourselves. I felt such a kinship to Mathilde, as a woman, a mother and something much deeper that I struggle to put words to. I think my life has changed in some way, reading about her story. I have thought of her often since finishing the book and even wondered, "what would Mathilde think", on a couple of occasions. She will always be with me. I am thankful that something about Mathilde touched you also, and inspired you to share her story with the world. Even though she is not here in the physical any longer, I can't help but think that this book is the first step in setting right a horrible wrong. I am once again inspired by your story telling. The worst part of this book for me has been the end, as it was with Tales of our Youth: Generation of Love and Hope. I am once again hoping for a sequel, as I would love to know who Mathilde was as a child and a young adult prior to her marriage. I have also wondered many times how Mathilde's children faired through the traumatic event and what legacy if any, have they been left with. Thank you.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Unjust By Dunder The struggles of this poor woman were relentless and the legal system failed her over and over again. Mathilda deserves to be remembered and with this book, she will be.The legal transcripts bring one back to the days when almost everyone lived on a farm and many of one's neighbors were immigrants.I am certain that there are instances where folks are still "railroaded" in the legal system and lawyers gouge the estate for bloated fees.At the end of the day, a book should change you and make you think. This one does.

About the Author Author: Lisa Manzione The Bella and Harry series of children's books is Lisa Manzione's first foray into children's fiction writing.  As a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI), Lisa's entrance into the field of literature is one she has eagerly awaited and is very passionate about.  As the daughter of a single parent who worked for a major airline, Lisa's exposure to (and interest in) travel began at an early age.  Later in life, as Lisa's own children grew up and her love of animals continued, the idea for the Bella and Harry series was born.  Illustrator: Kristine Lucco Born in rural Pennsylvania, Kristine's passion for art began at a young age. This interest in art continued and ultimately led Kristine to study at the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale. Now a mother of two avid junior readers, Kristine’s unique talent and particular flair for children’s themes has evolved quite naturally into the world of children’s books and illustrations. She is quick to credit her own children for inspiring this phase of her art, as it is often conceived by seeing the characters and places through their eyes. In addition to her work on the Bella and Harry series, Kristine has also illustrated the most recently recognized children’s book, “Wacky Jacky, The True Story of an Unlikely Beauty Queen”.

They learned a bit about Venice, were excited to see it is shaped like a boot and that folks eat spaghetti and meatballs, and had fun working on and saying the Italian phrases.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Each One Gets Better By Richarc Dodici I bought and read the first of the Bella and Harry series not knowing what to expect and was delighted with these two adorable chihuahua siblings' adventures in Paris. Of course I got the second one, "The Adventures of Bella and Harry: Let's Visit Venice", and was anything but disappointed! My children were in awe of the canals, gondolas and exciting activities Bella and Harry went through. The illustrations helped to make this enchanting place real to them and inspired them to visit Venice themselves some day.My younger daughter was particularly happy when, after Bella warned Harry not to lean over the water because he might fall in and BELLA was the one to fall in. Of course she survived with only a good soaking and a little damage to her pride. What a wonderful learning tool this series is and how it has made my children want to learn about other places they might be able to visit in the future!I have to admit, I find the books captivating and enjoy reading them with my children! I look forward to the next addition to the series.

I bought this book after we went to Venice. I love this book, and my toddler asks me to read it all the time! I only wish I would have gotten it before we went to help get him excited! Love the illustrations and the amount of landmarks, food, and culture that is covered in a fun way.

Written in 1912 by Award winning Canadian author and historian By Cheryl Johns I liked this book because it gives many important facts about the founding of Quebec that have been lost since the invention of the internet. What I did not like however, is that it was originally written in French and the translators did not provide the primary source documentation needed for this book.

*Choosing home or care unit for patient with Alzheimer Disease. *Living at home verses living in a nursing home with Alzheimer disease. *Struggles faced by the family of Alzheimer's patients. *Characteristics of Alzheimer’s disease. *What we can do to help cure Alzheimer’s. My mother-in-law Betty, age 91, suffered from stage six Alzheimer’s disease. My father, age 92, knew in his heart of hearts the best place for them both to live be in the house in which they grew old together. My siblings wondered if an assisted living home might be better for both Dad and Betty. I decided it best for me to drive to Texas from my home in South Carolina to decide for myself which lifestyle I thought would be best for my parent. I was told my parents had three caregivers. During the week a care giver arrived at their home at 9:00 a.m. and stayed through 6:00 p.m. fixing lunch and dinner and attending to their needs. On week nights another care giver arrived at 9:00 p.m. and left at 7:30 a.m. after making breakfast. Weekends I heard were iffy. Most weekends a caregiver would arrive and spend Saturday and Sunday nights, sometimes no one would show up at all. My parents were alone in their home for many hours each week. I decided to stay in Texas at least a month, maybe two. I wanted to spend time with my parents and make an aware decision as to where I thought they should live. A freak happenstance, a mistake, threw me into a memory-impaired unit for a month. God placed me right where I needed to be and I want to share what I learned.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. A Must Read..... By GeorgeAnn Jansson Kay Nelson took a brave journey to follow up on care for her parents. I thank her for sharing her experience with the nursing home atmosphere and the lack of proper care and personnel for those with no memory. More money needs to be allocated and in her book she lists officials to be contacted to improve care for those who need it. I am a person facing a different kind of care needed for my father in final stage COPD. Her book points out how diligent we need to be to. I will do all I can to keep him at home with me so he doesn't have to face the overcrowded and understaffed institutions available. But I am 70 and in poor health and he is 90. There are so many circumstances out there that need attention. Thank you Kay Nelson for binging an eye and ear to the dilemma. And you did all this while dealing with MS yourself. I commend you and know this book may help others looking for guidance in making decisions. Thanks for writing it. it had to be difficult on you. I wish you good health.
