Jessica Weaver's life was perfect. Her handsome, gregarious husband Daniel, a public relations consultant, made a good salary and provided her with a lifestyle to be envied. However, when Daniel goes away on a business trip and doesn't return, Jessica's life falls apart. After five years of marriage, Jessie, whose life revolved around her husband, finds herself alone in a strange town. Having set aside thoughts of a career or life outside of marriage, she must start all over again. The novel is set in the 1980's in Judson Springs, a small city in the Northwest which houses the state's only prison. Daniel and Jessie Weaver have only recently relocated there when he is sent to open a new office in another city. To occupy her time while Daniel is away, Jessie begins work as a substitute teacher at the local schools. This is her first professional job and the first time she has been separated from her husband. When Daniel's job keeps him away longer than expected, Jessie, driven by loneliness, decides to find activities to occupy her time when not being called to substitute. Putting aside her fears, she accepts an invitation to attend a meeting at a local organization. At the Society to Enhance Black Cultural Advancement, or SEBCA, Jessie meets Clarisse, a wealthy, flamboyant member. Clarisse befriends her and introduces her to other members of African American society in Judson Springs, upper middle-class professionals who live on the "hill." Receiving a letter from Daniel that he will not be returning to Judson Springs, Jessie refuses to believe it. However, by continuing to deny the fact that their marriage is over, she nearly suffers a breakdown. Jessie is at a low point when she meets Cleveland Earl, a prisoner who lives in a half way house and works in the community while awaiting his release. At first Jessie struggles to maintain distance. However, as her feelings for him grow, so, too, does her need to discover herself.

About the Author Anna Christian is the author of three books, The Big Table, an illustrated children's book, 2008; Mrs. Griffin is Missing and Other Stories, a preteen novel, 2005; and Meet it, Greet it, and Defeat it! The Biography of Frances E. Williams, Actress/Activist, 1999. She has two biographical entries in the 2008 African American National Biography Project published by Oxford University Press; one of Frances E. Williams and one of Rupert Crosse, actor. A freelance writer, her articles have appeared in Image Magazine and the Skanner Newspaper in Portland, Oregon. She has written book reviews for Sisterhood Agenda Magazine and the Salem Public Library, and book evaluations for L.A. Unified School District. In addition to her blog, "Celebrating Life" on blogspot.com, she has blogged for the Oxford University Press. She has an M.A. in English from CSULA. She taught Language Arts for L.A. Unified school District and Moreno Valley Unified School District from which she retired. In addition, as an adjunct professor with Riverside Community College she taught English and worked in the Teacher Preparations Special Projects. Presently she facilitates a Creative Writing/Life Story class at the Moreno Valley Senior Center. Also, she works with the Teen Poetry Workshop. She is the recipient of the 1999 Research and Status of Black Women in the Arts award from the Southern California Conference Branch, Women's Missionary Society of the AME Church. In addition to her first adult novel, Daniel's Wife, she is working on a second in the Bobby and Sonny Mystery Series, The Newcomer. Christian is a member of the Renaissance Writers of Riverside and the California Writers Collective.

Daniel has never been one to settle in one place for too long. After unpacking and repacking, the young couple settles in Judson Springs. It's not long before Daniel is packing and heading for Texas, without Jessica. As she fears having to navigate the small town alone, she soon is forced to grow into her own.No longer considered a stranger in town, Jessica has been embraced as Daniel's wife, the prominent businessman. Looking to become more active in the community, she joins SEBCA, The Society to Enhance Black Cultural Advancement. Though she's disappointed that their outreach is more about the haves than the have-nots, Jessica still finds a way to help people and comes to learn more about herself in the process.'Daniel's Wife' written by Anna Christian is a good read. I love that the story embraces a time before internet, cell phones and interactive video games. It was great to witness Jessica's growth. My biggest issue is that the book seems to have racial tensions that feel more like it was closer to the 60's than the 80's.

Lyme disease is a bacterial infection carried by ticks. Humans can be infected by a tick bite. The disease is a growing epidemic, particularly in North America, Europe and Australia. Since its discovery in Lyme, Connecticut in 1982 by Willy Burgdorfer, Lyme disease has become the number one tick borne infection in North America but has been the subject of much controversy and debate in the medical world. This controversy mainly revolves around the accepted diagnosis and treatment of Lyme disease, and also the possible existence of chronic Lyme disease. Chronic Lyme disease has caused a fundamental divide between doctors and scientists; (i) those who believe it exists and (ii) those who believe it is a convenient diagnosis for a group of symptoms with no other medical explanation I believe that anyone who thinks that they have been exposed to Lyme disease through a tick bite, or a person who has been diagnosed with Lyme disease, or a person who thinks they may have chronic Lyme disease has the right to know that there are two conflicting medical opinions about the diagnosis and treatment of Lyme disease and whether or not long-term chronic Lyme disease even exists. It is important for these patients to consider the two points of view so that they can make a considered decision about the type of treatment on offer and which is the best treatment plan for them. This book has been written by a microbiologist and educator and puts the facts clearly and succinctly. The book presents the two conflicting points of view presented by: 1. IDSA the Infectious Diseases Society of America 2. Breathtakingly awesome new knowledge from the frontiers of biophysics brilliantly described By Randy Mack Jim Oschman's work is The Reference Book for scientists, medical professionals, as well as the intelligently informed layperson who is genuinely interested in the science of human energetics. He has written a lucid, highly referenced account of the current understanding of the role of energy in human and all other life. The unfolding story is fascinating and awe inspiring as it practically begs for further research into the evolving medicine of the future. Unfortunately the dominance of the pharmaceutical industry in medical education and social policies will hinder funding for such research even as many anatomical and physiological assumptions are shown to be grossly inadequate for explaining what happens everyday in living organisms. Many questions are raised and a surprising number are answered or at least moved to further questions not dreamed of by the majority of medical professionals.Jim Oschman is confidant enough to urge scientists to listen to what healers in ancient and emerging modalities know about the body from their sensitive interactions with their clients. How gratifying to finally have scientifically solid evidence for processes that have up to now been largely ignored or ridiculed.I hope that the author and many of us of his generation live long enough to see and benefit from the fruition of the ideas presented here as they enter the mainstream and bring degrees of healing currently unimaginable.

By Brandon Spencer It can be a heavy read for some, and I know I learned a lot, and have not even grasped a full understanding of most of the concepts!I am no scientist in the formal sense, but when has formality ever truly mattered when one has curiosity and the will to know? I have spent hours of my life every week reading about topics of this nature. I can definitely say that this book has brought to my attention many other things that I would not have noticed sooner. My perspective has been broadened. It is highly likely that I will spend the rest of my life studying things within this realm, and other realms as well, because if anything, I've noticed that the greatest illusion of this world is the illusion of separation. Things you think are separate and different are actually one and the same.If you want to expand your UMWELT (OOMVELT(in ethology) the world as it is experienced by a particular organism.)-Then I highly recommend this book!

10 of 11 people found the following review helpful. A small step in the right direction By Arthur H. Roach I am always a bit skeptical when a new book by Van der Kiste appears. He writes so many books on similar topics, whether Victoria's daughters, Victoria's granddaughters, Edwards VII's children, etc., that I wonder if the latest book is simply a repackaging of information previously presented. Sometimes that is very much the case. If I had not already read Justin Vovk's new "Imperial Requiem," I might have held "The last German Empress" in higher regard. Vovk's presentation of Empress Augusta has a wealth of new information presented in a fascinating context."The last German Empress" is rather short -- which might indicated more about the subject than the author. It does move beyond the off-told tales of her squabbles with her British relations and her unswerving loyalty to her mercurial husband. But it never moves beyond Augusta at home or at conflict with Wilhelm's English family. (She has a slight relatonship to Victoria through Victoria's half-sister Feodora.) Did her travels extend beyond Germany or dreaded visits to Windsor? I don't know -- maybe she never visited Vienna. I've seen pictures of Wilhelm in Lisbon. Did she accompany him? A desire to dig deeper into an international presence of Augusta Viktoria would have resulted in a much-needed and more nuanced portrait. There is somewhat more of this in "Imperial Requiem."Like many of Van der Kiste's books, "The last German Empress" would benefit from an editor for both errors and service with a red pencil. It seems hastily assembled and written. A thorough and insightful study of Augusta Victoria's life still needs to be written.

By Baird-Greene This brief biography of Empress Victoria Augusta, consort of Wilhelm II, the last Kaiser was worth reading, if for other reason than so little has been written about her in the English language. It was interesting to read of her origins. I had not known that Victoria Augusta was a granddaughter of Queen Victoria's half-sister, Feodora. The writing is dry and a bit stiff. There are several errors and typos that should have been caught. The photographs at the end of the book are revealing of the Empress's physical bearing and presence. There are several of her as a young woman and as a mother. At the end of the book, there is a listing of her children and their spouses. I wish there had been a more complete family tree. The book would have been improved by including one. I recommend this book to those who've read little about this German Empress who loved her family and Germany above all else..

This woman is a survivor- a fascinating journey toward self discovery By cynthia marsh I tend not to like memoirs as they can be whiney and self centered (hated Eat, Pray, Love). This book is neither. Annie Mae has written about her journey through life with a focus on understanding and not blaming and with a compassion for others that is remarkable. Given the circumstances, it is hard to understand how she continued to get out of bed every day to face her demons without just throwing in the towel. It is a testament to her inner fortitude that she continued to search for answers even while knowing the answers would be difficult to face. This book is well written, well organized, and hard to put down. Highly recommended.

At times the story is difficult to read as she graphically writes of the abuse at the hands of her husband.The bottom line : Annie Mae Robertson is a survivor. While the story is hers, the reader gets the feeling her children have not only survived but all lead stable lives and reflect her ability to provide a well rounded interesting family life.a good read!!

All Hail Her "Madgesty" By TBo As a long time Madonna fan AND a collector of a lot of books on her, I have to say I was waiting with anticipation on this book. It did not disappoint! The photos that were selected show the scope of Madonna's career from her very early days in NYC to today. The text that accompanies each photo is a detail of that photo and of that time in her career. The book is one that can be read in several sittings of can be scanned through and read without missing any details. Michelle Morgan approached this book as a fan and as a professional writer. Both of which are evident. I have thoroughly enjoyed this book and have already ordered extra for holiday gifts.

It's a beautiful compilation of photos over the course of Madonna's life and career. And, I did find out a few things about The Queen that I never knew. Enjoy this book on its merits; which is beautiful images thoughtfully laid out to document a life and a career.

It begins with her childhood and ends in early 2014. The book is easy to read; Writing on one page and a corresponding photo on the other. Most of these photo's I've never seen before (and I thought I seen them all). Overall, the book gives wonderful and unique insights on Madonna as a person, performer, artist, mother, daughter, lover, and wife. It shows the highs and lows of her career and personal life. I must say, this book is truly amazing. The author really did her homework when researching about this amazing woman. It's definitely a collector's item for any Madonna Fan!

By Garrie I can't understand why this book says simple ways but it's a hundred of them, I guess you'll be stressed following all those. If it says simple then it should have only few ways for us to follow for an anxiety and stress-free living. However, this book has it all when it comes to alleviating stress and anxiety. It still boils down to live a healthy life, meaning, eat the right foods, drink lots of water, exercise daily, less alcohol and nicotine intake or eliminate them totally, less coffee, meditate, have sex more often laugh more, more walks, etc. Those I've done when it came to a point when I felt anxious and so stressed. Even though, I've already read more books like this one, still this book is totally different from the ones I've read because again, the author gives 100 ways and explained how to follow and keep those ways.

A personal experience about severe anxiety used to help other overcome is such a courageous act. I liked this book because I feel the author's sincerity and confidence in sharing how to use the power of mind to break out from anxiety from personal experience. 100 simple ways provided in this context were awesome!! Very easy to remember and understand and it's so realistic. This book suggested several proven methods and strategies like proper meditation, learning how to embrace insecurities and how to know our purpose. Knowing our perspective, being grateful and strong management of panic attacks were just some of these strategies. I learned that some people feel insecure because of other people's judgments. Learn to be patient, learn to forgive and be more organized, lessons I best learned from this book just to mention some.

The techniques and strategies given by the author did not require any expensive equipment or tools, it can be done only by using the power of our minds and in our homes. I really find this book very helpful. As for my personal experience, I used to have a problem sleeping at night but that was reduced when I started using guided hypnosis to get a deep sleep and relax, though this book suggested to listen to confidence hypnosis track, it gave me the idea to search for guided hypnosis online to address my sleeping issues and it really worked for me. I also find the topic about finding our purpose very interesting. This book is inspiring and a must read for busy individuals who are looking for practical ways to reduce their stress.

At first I thought aromatherapy is more about fragrances that smell good but now I learned a lot of it from this book. I learned the health benefits of using aromatherapy in the body that it can relieve stress, help in reduction of sensation in pain, and many more. I highly recommend this book to everyone because it's useful and reading this book will convince you to use essential oils in treating bodily problems. By CASTELO Con ver el titulo se puede pensar que es una novela romantica donde los personajes se enamaron y viven una aventura rosita de amor. Pero no, esta es una historia de accion, servicio secreto, y villanos megalomaniacos. Si disfruta de series de TV como 24 con Jack Bauer esta es una historia con ese estilo. La accion no se detiene y no se puede dejar el libro hasta terminarlo. Y tambien tiene sus momentos romanticos para satisfacer a los que le gusta eso. Es una lectura facil y entretenida que no se van arrepentir de leerla.

Se trata del hombre protagonista, Lucas, tratando de superar la muerte de su esposa y hija luego de un accidente en su automóvil. El libro esta sencillamente escrito para la mayoría de lectores entender y con varios géneros como romance, ficción, crimen y aventura para varios leer. Me gustaría leer la próxima secuela para ver la relación de Lucas y Pamela florecer aun más. Lo recomendaría a mis amigas lectoras para disfrutar de este buen libro, cual es refrescante y fuera del típico género que esta de moda de los personajes involucrado con una enfermedad mortal o sobre un futuro alternativo.

About the Author Dr Jean-Claude Guimberteau is co-founder and scientific director of the Institut Aquitain de la Main, and past-President 2011-2012 of the French Society for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (SOFCPRE). Dr Guimberteau trained in hand and plastic surgery at the University of Bordeaux, under Professors Goumain and Baudet. He worked in microsurgery and transplantation, extending his surgical experience through working in the USA with Dr J M Converse and Dr Ralph Millard. With Professor Claude Verdan in Switzerland and Dr Harold Kleinert in the USA he wrote a book: New ideas in hand surgery He has developed our knowledge of the structure and function of tendon physiology, and pioneered techniques for secondary flexor tendon repair. Perhaps his most significant contribution to our understanding of human biology has come about through his innovative use of video-endoscopy to investigate the structure of the fascia in vivo, resulting in what is essentially a new concept of living tissue and a new ontology for human body architecture. Through the company endovivo.com he has published many videos on living matter: Strolling under the skin, 2005; Skin excursion, 2008; Muscle Attitude, 2009; Interior Architectures, 2011; Skin, Scars and Stiffness, 2012; and Destination Tendon, 2012 Dr Guimberteau is also a member of the French Hand Society (GEM), and of the French Academy of Surgery.
