About the Author Lisa Rothstein was diagnosed with IBS as a teen and soon suspected her symptoms were related to diet. Dietary advice from her doctors, however, only made her IBS worse. Eventually she found that eating wheat- and lactose-free foods helped. She became known in her community as an expert recipe developer for these diets. Living and working in a multicultural environment, Lisa expanded her repertoire to include the unique foods and spices of Middle Eastern, Hispanic, and Asian cuisines. In 2011, on the recommendation of dietitian Karen Warman, she explored the low-FODMAP diet and found that it dramatically reduced her symptoms. Lisa has devoted the past several years to creating healthy and tasty low-FODMAP recipes that appeal to both adults and children. She holds a BA in Biology and was a cancer researcher at Harvard Medical School and Dana Farber Cancer Institute for 17 years. Lisa is a dilemma-free omnivore and resides in the greater Boston area with her husband, two children, and a very well-used kitchen. Patsy Catsos, MS, RDN, is a dietitian with a digestive-health focused practice in Portland, ME. Her trailblazing book, IBS—Free at Last!, introduced U.S. health care providers and consumers to an exciting and effective dietary program for finding and eliminating food triggers for irritable bowel syndrome. Patsy is the editor of the blog IBSfree.net. She teaches other dietitians how to deliver the FODMAP elimination diet. She earned a B.S. in Nutritional Science at Cornell University and an M.S. in Nutrition at Boston University. Karen Warman, MS, RD holds a Master’s degree in Nutrition from Texas Woman’s University and has been a registered dietitian for 34 years. She has worked as a Clinical Nutrition consultant working with clients with celiac disease, inflammatory bowel disease and irritable bowel disease at Johns Hopkins University, Children’s National Medical Center, and Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital. She is currently at Boston Children’s Hospital. Her career has focused on translating diet and nutrition information into meal plans and strategies that assist clients in improving their health. Many of her clients report that they are unskilled in the kitchen, but find reliance on prepackaged foods limits variety in their diet. Teaming with a Lisa has resulted in a unique opportunity to combine nutrition knowledge with culinary skills and provide a complete package to those suffering with IBS.

Due to being symptomatic to many of the different FODMAPS, I have spent much of my time in the kitchen adapting recipes. BUT NOW, I can easily turn to this cookbook and just cook! I have tried 7 different recipes and have enjoyed each one. The instructions are clear, ingredients easy to find, and there is so much variety, it will certainly appease everyone’s taste buds. As an RN, I often come in contact with individuals suffering with IBS. It is a joy to encourage them to speak with their GI doctor and dietitian about the FODMAP diet and to use a cookbook such as this. This cookbook will help each of us make FODMAP friendly meals for our whole family.

By Lorene My teenage son has had IBS symptoms for years but didnt want to do the gluten free diet because he thought it would be bland and flavorless. Eventually his symptoms worsened and he agreed to try it. We started by eliminating gluten and while it gave him some relief, he still had symptoms. After researching low fodmap diet on the internet, I found this gem of a cookbook! This was so much more than I expected! Lisa's recipes are well researched, but most importantly..they're delicious! There is such a wide variety of foods and cuisines to try that my whole family loves it now. At first, I was disappointed at having to give up onions and garlic but whem I saw Lisa's recipe for omion and garlic oil, I was thrilled. This cookbook has changed my son's life!

By Lisa Braithwaite, Public Speaking Coach and Trainer As someone who used to "suffer" from IBS for many years, I can say that I now thrive with IBS, with the help of Patsy Catsos' books "IBS: Free at Last," and her previous cookbook, "Flavor Without FODMAPS." I was thrilled to hear that Patsy was contributing her expertise to a new cookbook of Lisa Rothstein's recipes, and I knew it would be a winner. Just a few of the recipes I've bookmarked: Seitan Breakfast Sausage, Enchilada Sauce (impossible to find in stores without onions and garlic), Fall Vegetable Saute with Spicy Maple Glaze, Barbeque Spice Paste (BBQ flavor without the onion and garlic!), Ranch Dressing, and Spiced Carrot Dip (roasted carrots with toasted spices, lemon zest, yogurt and more). My mouth is watering just reading the recipes. Also, as a vegetarian, I appreciate the many non-meat options and the easily adaptable ingredients. Tempeh and tofu will easily substitute for many of the meat options. As a food lover, I find that books for special dietary needs are often disappointingly lacking in interesting and complex flavors. Not so with this one. There's a great range of vegetables, such as celery root, fennel bulb, rutabaga and chayote, and very creative spice options, like za'atar, smoked paprika and asafetida. These recipes will definitely NOT disappoint. There's also a very good explanation of the basics of FODMAPS for those who are new to the approach, and clear explanations of some of the confusing and conflicting aspects of FODMAP science. I can't wait to dig in and get these recipes into circulation in my kitchen!
