About the Author Author: Lisa Manzione The Bella and Harry series of children's books is Lisa Manzione's first foray into children's fiction writing.  As a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI), Lisa's entrance into the field of literature is one she has eagerly awaited and is very passionate about.  As the daughter of a single parent who worked for a major airline, Lisa's exposure to (and interest in) travel began at an early age.  Later in life, as Lisa's own children grew up and her love of animals continued, the idea for the Bella and Harry series was born.  Illustrator: Kristine Lucco Born in rural Pennsylvania, Kristine's passion for art began at a young age. This interest in art continued and ultimately led Kristine to study at the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale. Now a mother of two avid junior readers, Kristine’s unique talent and particular flair for children’s themes has evolved quite naturally into the world of children’s books and illustrations. She is quick to credit her own children for inspiring this phase of her art, as it is often conceived by seeing the characters and places through their eyes. Children need to learn about this wondrous world - the civilizations, the history, the peoples, the climates, the geography, and the food. Well, author, Lisa Manzione and illustrator, Kristine Lucco will bring the world to your door step courtesy of Bella and Harry.EDINBURGH! They learn that they don't have to go far from London to reach Edinburgh which is located in Scotland - just above England. They see Edinburgh Castle which has been there for hundreds of years. But right from the preview By David from Philly I was ambivalent about starting this book because the story looked so sad. But right from the preview, the author had me swiping my screen and wanting to know what would happen next. Without giving too much away, a family falls apart after the father dies suddenly. The widow’s inability to care for her young son -- in part because she has the added challenge of being deaf, in part due to her meager sweatshop salary -- causes her to send him to an orphanage for fatherless boys.The story proceeds from there, documenting in memorable scenes the boy's first year of horrors at the supposedly respected institution. This is such a sad story that if anyone was else was writing it, you might not want to read it. But Sharavsky is such a good writer, he finds a way to mix sorrow with humor and suspense.With all the child sexual abuse stories coming out about the Horace Mann School and the Catholic Church, this book is extremely topical, even though it is set in 1962. Boarding School Bastard is a powerful story. I highly recommend it.

I was at Girard College in the same graduating class (1971) as Alan. I encourage all Girard alum to read it and for those who were there during the 1950s - 1970s to share their memories with Alan so he can use them in his upcoming chapters/books of the subsequent years. As Alan and reviewer Kinderman from the class of 1974 note, the teachers were not of the same ilk as the housemasters and governesses. Going to classes was not so feared as the returning "home" at the end of the day. As other reviewers have noted Alan's tale reflects the sense of humor he and others had during the process. I believe anyone who spent a few years there has been scarred on some level and most today retain a strong sense of ironic humor that drives my wife and daughters nuts. Alan's Chapter One reflects the environment in which thousands of fatherless boys' lives were forged in a hell on Earth.Wayne L. Johnson, Alexandria, VA

Kinderman While the author is a few years older than I (I entered Girard on September 15, 1965 as a third-grader from Pitman, New Jersey), I can authenticate the words and events revealed on these pages.Miss McCain, my Class 3-2 teacher was likely the only reason I survived my first year and the follow eight. She was a true Angel from Heaven. I thank God for her often, even as a man of 58 today.I do hope that this book will be continued. Although I believe and hope that Girard College today is far removed from the Hum of the mid-sixties, what went on within the Wall should be revealed and true identities revealed so as to expose the evil who preyed on young boys freely might have their histories preserved. Clearly, these are things that most Girardians of then and now would rather keep hidden. I disagree.Good work Alan!

My name is Terri Garcia and I put this book together to hopefully bring justice to these victims and their families. I wrote a similar book in February 2012, called “Rock County’s Unsolved Murders.” I wrote that book for the same reasons – hoping someone will come forward with some information and help solve a case. I decided to put this book together a little different than that Rock County book, because over the years, Madison has had different circumstances with many of these cases. You will learn about a young girl who was kidnapped from her bedroom window and murdered in 1911. Her body was placed in Lake Monona. In the early twenties and thirties, Madison had a moonshine war during prohibition. So many people, including police officers, were killed in one area that they named it “Death Corner.” In the sixties, seventies and eighties, Madison had a serial killer targeting young female college students on and around the campus. There are possibly eight of them all still unsolved today. In 1998, Father Kunz was killed in his church during the night. On top of these cases, I also found four missing persons cases and uncovered several victims who were viciously murdered or died under unusual circumstances.

The producers of these phenomena have been exposed efficiently and often, but their supporters are as active as ever, and show a simple faith which is more convincing than any argument. Moreover, the producers themselves - mediums, clairvoyants, water-diviners, seers, or whatever they may be - are sometimes of such apparent honesty and simplicity that disbelief seems almost a sacrilege; therefore part of my aim is to show how a man believing firmly in his own honesty may yet practice elaborate trickery and deceit.As the book is intended for readers presumably unacquainted with the trend of modern psychology, it is necessary to point out how much of the opinions set forth are accepted by workers at the subject.The theory of dissociation has, as far as I know, no opponents. About the Author

He was a driving force in bringing awareness of early music (and instruments) io its proper place in the long history of music. He was a gifted performer and sensitive teacher affecting the lives of those who had the good fortune to work with him.

In talking with new acquaintance, they often tell me that they would like to travel to a region in France. But, outside of Paris where they have already visited, are there interesting regions? The answer is “of course.” Where? This book is a start to answer just that question. Many of you know, I do enjoy cycling in France. When I am checking out a route for a new guidebook, I stop often to huff and puff if climbing, to check out a direction change for a route map, to take a drink, and always to take a picture. Over the years you and many other friends and acquaintances have asked me for something with just the photos of my travels in France, and a little about where I have been. This book is a start to address those questions. People are also interesred what Department (close to a State in the United States) or area I have been in. These Departments/areas are Burgundy, Dordogne, Lot and Tarn, Provence, Bordeaux & Pyrénées, and Cathar Country (Languedoc). Although I initially traveled to France (two-year Mediterranean deployment with the US Navy) in 1961, the following images date from 2004. From that trip through my 2014 adventure, I have taken more than six thousand photos in France. For my eight guidebooks, I included more than seventeen hundred of these photos in the text and maps. For this compilation, I selected 168 photos that got my attention. Some of these images needed an explanation. These images and comments are organized geographically.

Rising to just over 1,000 feet at the highest point on Cleeve Hill, the Cotswolds are spread across a half-dozen West Midland counties, including Gloucestershire, Avon, Wiltshire, Hereford and Worcester and Oxfordshire. For more than 90 miles, from Meon Hill just six miles south of Stratford-Upon-Avon, they stretch westward across the heart of England all the way to the great Roman city Bath.

For more than 1,000 years these pastoral, rolling hills have been home to farmers and shepherds and... well, to me. Please allow me to introduce you to my Cotswolds. Yes, we'll visit all the well-known and not-to-be-missed spots along the way, but I'll take you to places off the beaten path - places that very few visitors to the Cotswolds ever get to visit. Chipping Campden, Broadway, Stanton, Stanway, Snowshill, Bourton-on-the-Water, Stow-on-the-Wold, Naunton, Northleach, Chedworth, The Slaughters, Buckland, Winchcombe, Burford, Cirencester and Bath are just some of the towns we'll visit. Off the beaten path we'll visit the Duntisbournes villages, the tiny hamlet of Ford, the village of Bibury, and many more. There's an air of timelessness among these ancient hills, honey-colored towns, villages, and cottages.

A Personal Travelogue That Captivates By Sassy Lou This little guide book is full of quirky gems and insights giving an intimate picture of the author's own Cotswolds. Included are childhood memories and facts on local folklore and even breeds of sheep as well as over one hundred photographs of what has got to be one of the most beautiful areas in England. Added to this is an extremely useful visitor's guide on where to stay, eat and drink. If you're planning to cross the pond to come to the Cotswold then you'll find this guide a must read.

The author describes some of the parts of the area that may not be so busy, names his favorite places to eat, sleep and drink and almost gives you the feeling he is having a conversation with you. He grew up in this area and gives just enough detail to get you interested without overdoing it. Diana

By Cayce Hrivnak When it comes to cancer, I know for a fact there are alternatives that can help fight it without solely relying on chemotherapy alone. I've often wondered what the steps or different methods there were that one could take. I started reading this book and opened my mind to the different possibilities.As every battle you fight, you must come up with a plan in how you will defeat your adversary. In this battle, your adversary is eating your body from the inside. In order to win, action must be taken on the outside in order for it to work within. All the advice in this book are the ammo for your soldiers in your battle.We all want to believe that Western medicine is the only way to beat cancer while there are methods from history that prove they work more so. I like that the author discusses that you can use both Eastern and Western medicine treatments instead of choosing one or the other. Not only that, but they give us advice on what to do while recovering from the chemo.Great book and anyone will benefit from it's contents!

I was more than pleased to find a book on the topic of Chinese medicine and how it can be used to beat cancer.I think we rely heavily on Western medicine practices more often than not and ignore the Eastern medicine practices which tend to have proven results over the centuries and not be a synthetic drug that treats symptoms and not the cause.This is a well written book and I highly recommend it. It is evident the author is well versed in Chinese medicine.

Re-writes the book on what we all thought we knew about schizophrenic disorders By pator This book is a genuine account of Schizoaffective Disorder by a young man who as has come through the worst of it and has the strength and courage to face it daily and challenge its power over him. Its athenticity truly touched me.We see Schizophrenia portrayed on television and the movies or read its description in books and think we have some idea of what it is, but until I read this book I realize I didn't have a clue. The book takes you through the author's younger years, long before there would ever be a break or clinical diagnosis, and helps you to see that it doesn't happen all at once, and it doesn't happen because of a single event, and it doesn't happen to just "certain types of people" - all things that pop culture may have you believe in order to expedite a story line or promote the common beliefs. It's something the individual deals with in many ways throughout their life, and it's something that would likely break many of us if we were faced with it on a daily basis the way the author was. After all, I don't think there is a single person that can say they've never suffered from low self-esteem, paranoia, obsessive thoughts or actions at some time in their lives. Now imagine if your brain trapped you in those thoughts and times and wouldn't release you. That is what I imagined when I read this book, and it really, truly opened my eyes. I sincerely hope this book gets the recognition it deserves for what it is and what it does. Its not a clinical read, or highly polished and edited production - it's a true, honest, and thought provoking account from someone who can take you through his own first hand account. Schizoaffective Disorder is not something I think anyone ever expects to experience in their personal life; and I imagine that most, like me, wouldn't recognize it in its early stages. I hope this book can make it into the hands of those children who may feel just as Steve did and those parents who know the loving child they've raised is struggling in ways they can't understand but could possibly recognize through the author's account. The author talks throughout the book about his desire to help others and provide meaning for himself and others, and through his courage and selflessness in sharing his memoirs - I feel he has undeniably achieved that.

Ultimately, though, the lesson the author brings back from his journey through hell is one that would benefit every reader to learn: "I find happiness to be an extraordinary achievement."

Should be mandatory for medical and nursing students By brenda gray The author writes from his personal experiences in a style that clearly helps the reader understand the vast challenges of dealing with Schizoaffective disorder. Fascinating that he was aware of mental processing issues very early in life, but compensated quite well until early adulthood. His willingness to share the details of numerous spirals and the difficult battles to regain clarity explain the disorder better than any textbook I have seen in 40 years of nursing practice.
