About the Author Die 28-jährige Tschechin, die in Bayern lebt, fing im Alter von zwölf Jahren an Geschichten zu schreiben, weil sie die beste Kurzgeschichte in der Schule abliefern wollte. Murphy In 1835, English woman Harriet Martineau traveled to America and stayed there for two years, documenting everything she saw there. Martineau was an interesting observer: deaf, single, and a self-employed writer whose work supported herself*. She was one of the most famous essayists and sociologists of the Victorian era. She has a disarming, open writing style and an opinion on everything. Like Austen, she is one of the more readable writers of the nineteenth century.In this volume, Harriet gives her first hand account of the social worlds of Philadelphia, Boston, Baltimore and Washington D.C. She describes meals with President Jackson, observations of the Supreme Court, and a first hand account of a slave auction. She talks about personalities of famous people and the rhythms of daily life. I laughed out loud at her description of half-built, muddy little Washington D.C. and her opinion that it could not possibly last as the United States Capitol.I found it entertaining, gossipy and insightful. If you are looking for a primary source that depicts daily life in the 1830's, take a look at this charming travelogue.*Edited after a correction from a commentator.

What she offers through her background, sharing her journey and experience of deep personal loss will help readers find their footing when going through their own grief. I am grateful to have "Singing Beyond Sorrow" as a resource and have ordered extra copies to share when they are most needed.

By Annie What a brilliant, brave and transparent journey this author takes its readers on, through a time of deep personal loss and transition. The subject of grief is one that is mostly ignored by our society at large, and perhaps this book can gently open a more inclusive conversation about death and the wake that it leaves behind in the still living. That wake is made so real, so obvious and so human by the polished journal type format of this book that chronicles the year after the death of her husband. So often we want grief to be complete so much faster than it possibly could be. We don’t want to mourn for “too long”; to be a burden to our friends and community for “too long” or be the person that is just hard to be around because we are not “over it yet”. This book shows a full year of the ups, downs and flat days of someone who is brave enough to bare her Soul for us to see into her grief and to perhaps help give us the compassion we, and our fellow humans deserve. Her words make It obvious that she and her husband had a great love story and it’s obvious that they loved their little boy very much, and she shows us how that love is sustaining even after such an unexpected end to how they all thought their lives would unfold.For me this book reminded me again of how precious life is, and how fragile. It reminded me that all of us make future plans when we have no idea if we will be here to carry them out. It reminded me that the day I am in, today, is what I have and to do something I enjoy with it, preferably with people I love. Life is finite and beautiful and tragic. The author’s shared journey reminds me to live now and to be gentle with myself as I do just that.

Beautiful, raw, and a wonderful reminder of finding gratitude in any situation By Rebecca Brooks Beautifully and poignantly written, Carole exposes the very personal and raw, uncensored emotions of someone who has experienced the loss of a loved one. Her writing and story will resonate with anyone; whether you have been through loss yourself, seeking how to offer support to someone who has experienced a loss, or if you need a reminder to fill your life with gratitude. Her courage and grace reminds people that grieving comes in many shapes and forms and that we should not shy away from it, but rather embrace it in all its' different forms. I would highly recommend this book to anyone.

About the Author Born in Budapest, Hungary, Geza Tatrallyay escaped with his family in 1956 during the Hungarian Revolution, immigrating to Canada the same year. He grew up in Toronto, attending the University of Toronto Schools, where he was School Captain. He graduated from Harvard University with a BA in Human Ecology in 1972 (after taking a break in his studies to work as a host in the Ontario Pavilion at Expo’70 in Osaka, Japan). Geza was selected as a Rhodes Scholar from Ontario, attending Oxford University and graduating with a BA/MA in Human Sciences in 1974; he completed his studies with a MSc in Economics from London School of Economics and Politics in 1975. Geza represented Canada as an épée fencer in the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal. Geza’s professional experience has included stints in government, international organizations, finance and environmental entrepreneurship. Since 2004, he has essentially been semi-retired, managing a few investments mainly in the clean energy sector and devoting himself to his family and his writing. Geza is a citizen of Canada and Hungary, with an American wife, a daughter living in New York and a son in Nairobi, and currently divides his time between Bordeaux, France, and Barnard, Vermont. Geza Tatrallyay has written a number of books, including a collection of poetry (Cello's Tears), a thriller (Twisted Reasons), an e-thriller (Arctic Meltdown), and as well some of his poems and articles have been published in various journals.

A honest opinion about the book 'bloedvreemd' by Juliana Coetzer By Ms F.J. du Preez This book should be read by EVERY ONE, no matter where you are in the world. It is easy to read and very inspirational, although sad. I cried and I laughed. I could not put the book down. I first bought it on Kindle. The next day I went to buy the book to read it over and over again. It is the story of an ordinary family that is stuck by a tragedy and how they handled it until the level of complete acceptance and love. The family went from Faith, through Hope until only Love remained. It is RAW. Mrs Coetzer expose her family, who are actually very private people. However, it is not the usual sensation and poor little me/us. The family is real and they are STRONG, even the daughter who will, mostly likely, never recover from a strange illness/ syndrome. 'Bloedvreemd' is a MUST READ for every doctor, specialist and therapist. I hope it will soon be available in English and every "lingua de franca" in the world. To translate the title freely into English: "blood strange". My recommendation: Read it!

About the Author R.J. Rubadeau has spent the last forty years engaged in a smoldering love affair with boats and the wonderful things they do for a person’s soul. Logging over 250,000 sea miles during an amateur and professional career in the elite world of open ocean racing aboard the world’s legendary yachts, the author has sailed with and against the icons of the international sailing hall of fame. He has entertained generations of sailors with his writings about the crazy trouble people can get into when they cast off dock lines and go sailing. Rubadeau has honed his communication skills in various shore-side occupations: university lecturer, grant writer, newspaper columnist, politician, speech-writer for an Alaskan governor (No, not that one!), public policy analyst, and twenty years as a professional political strategist. He is a frequent contributor to many sailing magazines and is also an award winning poet. 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. like a sailing Forrest Gump, but better By Liz Graves I met the boat Dog Star and her person when I was one of the "longhaired young dreamers from the heartlands" wandering through a job in a boatyard on the coast of Maine. I'm still dreamy enough to cherish the couple of years I was able to give Dog Star her spring tummy rub (bottom paint prep and coat).It's a bit like being a wooden-boat person, actually, choosing to write or enjoy a memoir this way. I at first assumed this book would be a self-published, self-aggrandizing waste of time. I couldn't have been more wrong. Part of me thinks Bob should have made documentaries, or perhaps put together a nautical stand-up routine or one-man show, because his stories are so entertaining and endearing. But having this little book to engage with to uncover the stories, and not in a linear, chronological way, has a different kind of payoff. Bob knows how to tell a story so listeners get curious.Like the characters in his novels, Bob relishes telling the tales of his hardest-won lessons, the facepalm moments, the ones where he could have croaked. All that humble pie has made him a wise, tough, and always amused grown-up, who plans to die young as old as possible.

This would be a good beginning book for persons wanting to know a short biography, so to speak, about Padre Pio. I would recommend it for people who want to increase their faith of how God works in our lives today.
