About the Author Author: Lisa Manzione The Bella and Harry series of children's books is Lisa Manzione's first foray into children's fiction writing.  As a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI), Lisa's entrance into the field of literature is one she has eagerly awaited and is very passionate about.  As the daughter of a single parent who worked for a major airline, Lisa's exposure to (and interest in) travel began at an early age.  Later in life, as Lisa's own children grew up and her love of animals continued, the idea for the Bella and Harry series was born.  Illustrator: Kristine Lucco Born in rural Pennsylvania, Kristine's passion for art began at a young age. This interest in art continued and ultimately led Kristine to study at the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale. Now a mother of two avid junior readers, Kristine’s unique talent and particular flair for children’s themes has evolved quite naturally into the world of children’s books and illustrations. She is quick to credit her own children for inspiring this phase of her art, as it is often conceived by seeing the characters and places through their eyes. Children need to learn about this wondrous world - the civilizations, the history, the peoples, the climates, the geography, and the food. Well, author, Lisa Manzione and illustrator, Kristine Lucco will bring the world to your door step courtesy of Bella and Harry.EDINBURGH! They learn that they don't have to go far from London to reach Edinburgh which is located in Scotland - just above England. They see Edinburgh Castle which has been there for hundreds of years. But right from the preview By David from Philly I was ambivalent about starting this book because the story looked so sad. But right from the preview, the author had me swiping my screen and wanting to know what would happen next. Without giving too much away, a family falls apart after the father dies suddenly. The widow’s inability to care for her young son -- in part because she has the added challenge of being deaf, in part due to her meager sweatshop salary -- causes her to send him to an orphanage for fatherless boys.The story proceeds from there, documenting in memorable scenes the boy's first year of horrors at the supposedly respected institution. This is such a sad story that if anyone was else was writing it, you might not want to read it. But Sharavsky is such a good writer, he finds a way to mix sorrow with humor and suspense.With all the child sexual abuse stories coming out about the Horace Mann School and the Catholic Church, this book is extremely topical, even though it is set in 1962. Boarding School Bastard is a powerful story. I highly recommend it.

I was at Girard College in the same graduating class (1971) as Alan. I encourage all Girard alum to read it and for those who were there during the 1950s - 1970s to share their memories with Alan so he can use them in his upcoming chapters/books of the subsequent years. As Alan and reviewer Kinderman from the class of 1974 note, the teachers were not of the same ilk as the housemasters and governesses. Going to classes was not so feared as the returning "home" at the end of the day. As other reviewers have noted Alan's tale reflects the sense of humor he and others had during the process. I believe anyone who spent a few years there has been scarred on some level and most today retain a strong sense of ironic humor that drives my wife and daughters nuts. Alan's Chapter One reflects the environment in which thousands of fatherless boys' lives were forged in a hell on Earth.Wayne L. Johnson, Alexandria, VA

Kinderman While the author is a few years older than I (I entered Girard on September 15, 1965 as a third-grader from Pitman, New Jersey), I can authenticate the words and events revealed on these pages.Miss McCain, my Class 3-2 teacher was likely the only reason I survived my first year and the follow eight. She was a true Angel from Heaven. I thank God for her often, even as a man of 58 today.I do hope that this book will be continued. Although I believe and hope that Girard College today is far removed from the Hum of the mid-sixties, what went on within the Wall should be revealed and true identities revealed so as to expose the evil who preyed on young boys freely might have their histories preserved. Clearly, these are things that most Girardians of then and now would rather keep hidden. I disagree.Good work Alan!

My name is Terri Garcia and I put this book together to hopefully bring justice to these victims and their families. I wrote a similar book in February 2012, called “Rock County’s Unsolved Murders.” I wrote that book for the same reasons – hoping someone will come forward with some information and help solve a case. I decided to put this book together a little different than that Rock County book, because over the years, Madison has had different circumstances with many of these cases. You will learn about a young girl who was kidnapped from her bedroom window and murdered in 1911. Her body was placed in Lake Monona. In the early twenties and thirties, Madison had a moonshine war during prohibition. So many people, including police officers, were killed in one area that they named it “Death Corner.” In the sixties, seventies and eighties, Madison had a serial killer targeting young female college students on and around the campus. There are possibly eight of them all still unsolved today. In 1998, Father Kunz was killed in his church during the night. On top of these cases, I also found four missing persons cases and uncovered several victims who were viciously murdered or died under unusual circumstances.

The producers of these phenomena have been exposed efficiently and often, but their supporters are as active as ever, and show a simple faith which is more convincing than any argument. Moreover, the producers themselves - mediums, clairvoyants, water-diviners, seers, or whatever they may be - are sometimes of such apparent honesty and simplicity that disbelief seems almost a sacrilege; therefore part of my aim is to show how a man believing firmly in his own honesty may yet practice elaborate trickery and deceit.As the book is intended for readers presumably unacquainted with the trend of modern psychology, it is necessary to point out how much of the opinions set forth are accepted by workers at the subject.The theory of dissociation has, as far as I know, no opponents. About the Author

He was a driving force in bringing awareness of early music (and instruments) io its proper place in the long history of music. He was a gifted performer and sensitive teacher affecting the lives of those who had the good fortune to work with him.
