Allen Greenbaum A unique, creative volume, both a guidebook to contemporary Dublin (circa 1989) and the Dublin of Joyce's "Ulysses", and a guide to interpreting the text of "Ulysses." The book contain eight tours of Dublin corresponding (though not strictly chronologically) to the inner and outer voyages of Leopold Bloom on "Bloomsday," (June 16, 1904) the day chronicled in "Ulysses."A great deal of the text is included, along with explanations of Joyce's historical, religious, place-name allusions, as well as information on how to follow Bloom on his walking and riding tour of Dublin. (Bloom walked, took trams, trains, and hose-drawn conveyances, today's visitor is told how to use DART (Dublin Area Rapid Transit) to negotiate Bloom's wanderings that day. Some of the city remains as it did in 1904; others have places have changed, partially as a result of being mentioned in the fictional "Ulysses." For example, Sandycove Tower, which was a real tower in 1904, and is the initial setting of "Ulysses." It is now the site of the "James Joyce Museum." The bar of the old "Jury Hotel" (one of 60 actual establishments mentioned in "Ulysses") has been transported to Zurich and renamed the "James Joyce Pub."Because Joyce set "Ulysses" in the Dublin he knew, and based many of his characters on people he knew, the walking tours transcend (as does the book) the objective "what's there" and the subjective "how did Joyce write about it." It is truly a remarkable book, fascinating for those familiar with "Ulysses," and/or those who are taking either armchair or actual tours of Dublin. Includes many cites from the book (with excellent annotations and references to places in Dublin), anecdotes about Joyce, maps of the walking tours, three appendices (including "The Movements of Leopold Bloom and Stephan Dedalus on 16 June, 1904), and a useful index. About the Author Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra nació en Alcalá de Henares (España) el 29 de setiembre de 1547. Fue hijo de don Rodrigo Cervantes Saavedra (cirujano) y doña Leonor Cortinas. Tuvo seis hermanos. En 1551 se instaló con su familia en Valladolid y en 1566 en Madrid. Aquí asistió al Estudio de la Villa que regentaba el catedrático de gramática Juan López de Hoyos. En 1569 se incorporó a la milicia y dos años después combatió en la batalla de Lepanto contra los turcos (7/10/1571). Al quedar mal herido en un brazo lo apodaron «El manco de Lepanto». Cuando regresaba a España fue tomado rehén por los turcos durante cinco años (1575-1580). Al quedar libre regresó a Madrid y escribió su primera novela, La Galatea, publicada en 1585. Después trabajó como recaudador de impuestos en Sevilla, pero en 1597 fue encarcelado acusado de complicidad en un fraude bancario. En 1600 se instaló en Valladolid, donde terminó de escribir la primera parte de su gran obra El Quijote de la Mancha, que fue publicada en 1605. En 1613 publicó su colección de cuentos titulada Novelas Ejemplares. La gran aceptación de El Quijote de la Mancha hizo que publicara su segunda parte en 1615. Establecido en Madrid, cayó gravemente enfermo y falleció el 22 de abril de 1616. Las novelas ejemplares son las siguientes: El licenciado Vidriera, El amante liberal, El casamiento engañoso, El celoso extremeño, El coloquio de los perros, La española inglesa, La fuerza de la sangre, La gitanilla, La ilustre fregona, La señora Cornelia, Las dos doncellas y Rinconete y Cortadillo.

We learned about her family connections and how she interacted with her parents and, ultimately, her grandparents. There was a special bond that formed with her grandmother in her early years and with Sharpe's style of writing, it made it easy for me as a reader to fall into the book and relate to her. I found myself tagging along on one emotional journey to the next. On many occasions, I was on the verge of tears. On more times than I care to admit, the tears did fall.Sharpe retelling of the trails of her life in such a real and relatable fashion. I could put myself in her shoes and say, "Yes, I was that angst-riddled young adult trying to find my way, frustrated beyond all reason with the world, not knowing why."And, as the caregiver for my mother before she passed away, I can relate to how Sharpe felt in the final days of her Grandmother’s life. There is the duality with your selfish self for wanting to hold on, and the reasonable side that wants nothing more than to have the one person you love most in the world to find the peace they deserve.I cannot recommend this book enough. It is an honest look into the life of a young woman with all the struggles that come with it. However, I could not put it down without wanting to pick it right back up again.

This memoir/autobiographical account of the author's addictions - a family legacy of alcoholism and depression. This is a bewildering and captivating story where many of life's lessons can be learn. A compelling read. Honouring oneself helps others to honor themselves in turn. Like a boomerang, what we give out will return to us many folds.

This is one of the primal maps that nature endows each species to enhance survival. Without the need to belong, the young would stand a good chance on being isolated and at the mercy of predators. The story of Not Really Gone is one that reads like a fictional thriller. A young girl is so badly ignored by her parents that she loses her sense of belonging and as a result spends the greater part of her young adult life seeking approval. She cannot count on her brother or sister since they are deep into their own troubles. The only person in the world who becomes her rock is her grandmother.This is a book that has been written for anyone who has faced trouble in their life. Although Ms. Sharpe is writing about her life,there are lessons that can serve to help others master life’s most difficult realities. The story is masterfully written and unlike most memoirs does not attempt to make excuses for the tragic circumstances in which Ms. Blaire finds her life taking her. The facts are played out in a manner that the reader does not have to sift through details to get to the truth. Ms. Sharpe tells the truth straight out and to the point without the need to preserve any details that might be too raw. This fact alone should be a help to those who can’t seem to face their own demons.Besides being a help to others, this book is a riveting story of one person’s struggle for identity.The reader is brought along through the various events in the story and feels almost special for being able to share them with the author. I think this is the essence of the author’s skill. She lays out tragic details but spares the reader from cringe moments that could disrupt the desire to continue reading. Above all else, make no mistake, this is an interesting read and very difficult to put down. I have to applaud Ms. Sharpe for keeping the sappy “poor me” kinds of sentiments out of this important memoir. I also have to praise her for telling a story of dignity and love which in the end is the whole lesson.I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a well-written narrative of troubled times that has as the end state a great lesson.

About the Author Shirley Yang was born on December 8, 1938, in Fu-Chien, China. In 1949, she fled with her family to Taiwan when Mao's Communist Party took over the Chinese Mainland. She met her future husband, David, in college, and together they decided to pursue a better life in America. Over the years, she worked tirelessly to transform from a penniless foreign student to an information systems specialist at Hughes Aircraft Company, with an MBA degree from SMU in Dallas, Texas. After more than forty years in the computer industry, Shirley retired in 1997 to follow her interests in travel, fashion design, oil painting, and writing. Most of all, Shirley enjoys being a grandmother. She feels that she finally knows what matters most: besides enjoying life on earth, you have an obligation to your family, your society, and your world to make it better for future generations. In August 2014, Shirley was diagnosed with breast cancer and is currently under treatment. No matter the outcome, she feels she has not lived her life in vain.

Some stories were familiar to me, and many were completely new. But all were told in her true and totally authentic voice with amazing recall and such genuine emotion. I am so proud to have this written legacy of my mother's life. I will treasure it forever.

From the Author Sex is shrouded in such mystery and secrecy, considered so personal, that it's a wonder we can ever have an honest conversation about it. But if we could talk freely and openly with each other, we would discover that sex means something different to everyone, often far from the ideas that Hollywood and Madison Avenue feed us. In truth, sex is not the primitive instinct that we are led to believe. It's our most complicated human need. Through sex we connect, communicate, negotiate power, give and receive pleasure, and work to heal our inner lives. This special collection of Psychology Tomorrow Magazine celebrates our third anniversary of publication. It was, after all, the censorship by Psychology Today of one of my sex columns which led to my founding of Psychology Tomorrow. These selected essays explore sex in all its complex and creative possibilities. Each article shares in common the idea that our fantasies, desires, and behaviors are windows into the deepest levels of our psyches. By understanding all of these dynamic interactions, we also come to understand our core personalities more deeply. Further, most of our contributors - seasoned psychotherapists - believe that sex, when engaged with intention, can change our lives, help repair past conflicts, and satisfy our deepest, unmet needs. One of our authors, for instance, provides a guide for connecting the different facets of ourselves in "Sacred Sexuality and Sex," as the mind, body, and spirit unite through sex in exquisite harmony A few of our contributors are "sex workers" who view themselves as healers to the same extent as any therapist. For them, sex is more verb than noun. About the Author Stanley is a psychotherapist, author, lecturer, and former Director of Education and Senior Faculty member of New York's renowned Ackerman Institute for Family Therapy. With nearly 40 years of experience in the field of psychology, Stanley has developed a bold and unconventional approach to psychotherapy that has led to his most recent book, Your Brain on Sex: How Smarter Sex Can Change Your Life. Siegel has taught at the State University of New York at Stony Brook, Adelphi University, and the University of California, Berkeley. Additionally, he was the founding director of the Family Studies Center in Huntington, NY, and has served as a consultant to hospitals and mental health centers throughout the country.The creator and writer of the "Families" column for Newsday, Siegel also co-authored two popular books: The Patient Who Cured His Therapist and Other Unconventional Stories of Therapy and Uncharted Lives: Understanding the Life Passages of Gay Men, both of which have been translated into 6 languages. His books serve as the basis for workshops around the country. Siegel has served as the review editor for two professional marital therapy journals, and his work with couples and families is the subject of two educational videos.Siegel's lifelong interest in art has included a period during the mid-1990s as the Dance Editor for Showbusiness, in which he reviewed and reported on the dance scene in New York City. Siegel created the popular sex column Intelligent Lust for Psychology Today magazine, which is now featured in this collection as well as in Psychology Tomorrow Magazine, for which he is Editor-in-Chief. It also appears regularly throughout the Middle East in FitNStyle magazine.

Everyone who's ever had sex, or who's ever been hurt, or who's ever LIVED LIFE should read this. A combination of introspection, suggestion, research, and advice, this volume, perhaps most importantly, opens your mind to the ways this thing which "nobody" likes to discuss, can not only heal, but transform, change, grow, and open one's life. I'm inspired to say the least, a must-read!
