By the time MacArthur returns to the Philippines in 1944 he is met on the beach at Leyte by a force of over twenty thousand of Fertig’s guerrilla Army. These warriors were a good payback for the brutality of the Japanese in the Philippine Islands during WWII. Because of the guerrilla effort Japan was forced to keep a much larger force there instead of releasing many to fight the Americans elsewhere. Carl also ties in the birth of the CIA from the wartime OSS. Great read!

It's poorly written, badly edited, and replete with typos. Fertig deserves more serious treatment than this. Five stars only in kindergarten. Look elsewhere.

As a massage therapist it has always been my possibility that Reiki is with me always and that even my massage clients are receiving the energy. Reiki has made my healing work better, on a high trembling rate. This book was a nice refresher to help me get back into it. I had forgotten all the details of working with the symbols. I will recommend this book to my students and others.

Love the technique used in this book By Josue04 Meditation is an extremely powerful technique and I have always wanted to try it but had no idea on the best way to start or how to go about it, so I decided to get this book. I've tried a session of Reiki meditation and really relieved a lot of tension and stress and made me feel a lot better in general. I'm not sure if everyone experiences the same but I'd highly recommend you to give it a shot and find out what benefits it gives you.For me, very good book. If you haven't started meditation yet, start with this book.

By jen122382 Learning to Love Kimchi is the story of a young woman, the author, embarking on a two-year adventure in Korea as a member of the Peace Corps. It offers a look into the world of Peace Corps service in a way that puts the reader in the field right next to the young woman who experiences the roller coaster of emotions attached with being in a new place so far from home for so long. Excitement, anticipation, frustration, and homesickness are just a few of the things that readers have to look forward to as they take this journey.Perhaps the most interesting and captivating part of this narrative is that it doesn't look like your average story. Instead, the narrative is constructed through letters that Carol wrote home to her mother from the field. The reader goes from one letter to the next, which creates a different yet cohesive story that really shows the reader the ups and downs of what it must have been like to be a young woman in a different world far from home. It is this structure that really makes this type of story shine. Everything is feels real because it was real in that moment as that letter was written. It never once feels disjointed or difficult to follow; it all just makes sense and pulls the reader into that world. By the end of the book, the reader feels like he/she was right there with the young woman the entire time; the fantastic images from the author's time spent in Korea also adds a deeper level of substance and imagery to the experience.I have always wanted to travel and know what it would be like to live in a completely different country. Although I've never had the chance to do so on my own, Learning to Love Kimchi: Letters Home from a Peace Corps Volunteer leaves me feeling like, in a way, I was there the entire time, serving in this foreign land during a time in which America was undergoing a great deal of change. It's a great read that I would highly recommend to anyone looking to either serve in the Peace Corps or just wanting to know what it would be like to have such an experience. You will not be left disappointed.

As a 2nd generation Korean-American, I was fascinated to read about the Korea that my parents once lived in...from an American perspective. Korea sure was different back in the 70's! As someone working overseas in a developing country, I could also relate to many of the experiences that the author described...the ups and downs, the joys and frustrations. I will definitely recommend this book to my friends and family!

The format flows in letters to Mom back home and in the process we learn about the Country: customs; food, living conditions, educational system and the people the Author lived with and met during her two year Peace Corp journey. In addition she visited many other Countries and Islands - to this reader that made it even more interesting. A must read - Five Stars from me !!

By JP Sconset, sometimes called the Rose Capital of the World, is one of the most unique, charming, and picturesque villages anywhere on this planet. If you have been there, you know exactly what I am talking about. In what has quickly become my favorite Nantucket photography book (and I have several), Mr. Barton's Sconset book is an absolute gem. I cannot give enough praise to his knack for exquisite photography--lighting, siting, angle--it's all here and it's all great. Besides the high-quality, full-color photography of cottages, gardens, and vistas, the book is peppered with a perfect amount of text with plenty of interesting, useful, historical observations.If you have been to Sconset and are looking for a great keepsake of summer memories strolling down narrow streets lined with rose-covered cedar shingles within sight of the sea, this is your book.

The print is too tiny to comfortably read, the pictures are very small, the book reads in landscape. Zoom function does not work! Very disappointing!
